486DX! 640x480! 256 colours! 640 k main memory! Windows 3.1 or so ... don't remember exactly. No USB, no CD-drive ... 3.5" floppy disk drive only. But it doesn't start anymore. So I decided to buy some of the 3.5" floppy disks and try to install ol' DOS and WIN 3.1. WIP ...
Hey, it was shitty expensive 20 years ago ... something like 1500 DeutschMark

Well, I had an Atrox once. I wonder if I can find the model somewhere ...
But TBH I am not really interested in EU creatures anymore. Although ... a 300 mm model of an Atrox would be cool, wouldn't it? lol

Just send me a STL-file of your favorite creature and I can try to print it.

Wow thats a monster. Very cool !

  5. Ok you got me..I looked at that picture and fell in love.

Well, I painted the model. There are still many issues. But I won't put any more effort into it.

I reached one essential goal. Now I know that it is possible to print impressive and high quality 3D models with my little cheap printer.

  7. Well, why I like watching you on these projects as you learn the ins and outs of the new printer. Each project just seems to be getting better and better.

Yep, I was short before giving up and offer the printer at ebay. Fortunately I had the idea to change everything and "Think big!" ;-)

    Kinda summary ...
Way back in the far past, when I was a young boy, I made paper craft models from si-fi stories like vehicles and UFOs. I painted pictures of my dreams. I wrote stories. To be able to make such models like I did lately was far of my imaginations. Well, I'm 60 years old now. And I can do things I never expected to be able to do. That's crazy! That alone was worth it to live that long ;-)

@Wistrel: I like the scenary at the second picture like you. And probably one day we can realize it as 3D-print. BTW ... do you know the short movie "Sintel" from Blender Foundation?

I think yes, you know it. That's what I love.

    Model looks good !

DANG! Highscreen Vobis, yes. Funny that company started in Soest close to my hometown (Lippstadt) (~15 km) ;-) But I bought that precious used for 400 DeutschMark. Dunno if I ever can revive it. Probably the folks from http://www.hnf.de/ ... (40 km) can and wil help me if I don't succeed.

    Well, back to the job!
I want a very special 3D-print. See picture:[IMG]... something like this at least.
I got a good naked model from DAZ so far. Next one would be printed bigger. Kinda 400 or 500 mm. (I want a good face!)
    Three main jobs:
    • Learn to pose the model (should be easy because DAZ offers good learning videos).
    • Find good clothes and learn to apply them in a propper way
    • Find a way to make a printable 3D-STL from that model (will become the main challenge ...)

I'm thinking of downloading MakeHuman software no 3d printer atm just want to fool around with the software.

    Does anyone else use this?

Since a few folks named it I will have a look for MakeHuman as well next days.

For now I'll go with DAZ studio. I've learned already that clothes will be dressed like in real live. The naked body stay and the clothes geometry will be superposed. That's deathly for 3D-printing! I will experiment a bit more soon. But this announces a damn lot of work in Rhino3D to clean the models for 3D-printing.

    Okay MakeHuman!
Hmmm ... not really what I want.
    upload_2015-1-22_1-2-30.png
Probably a professional or ambitious modeler can make good models with MakeHuman. Especially since they offer tools to connect to Blender. But that's not me. At least they offer to export the models as STL like DAZ does. I could import the model to Rhino3D without problems.
    makehumantest01.jpg
But it's too arduous for me. As mentioned above: I don't want to become a modeler. I want more or less ready for use stuff, easy posing, easy clothing and all. My main goal is to get a cool model as easiest and cheapest as possible. Fast!
