    Another addition that would be cool, I dont know how hard to implement would be to have a notification if there is a new post in the "nations forum" displayed maybe where it shows that you have new pms or something. Its not always intuitive to check the nation forum, and it would provide for quicker communication for people who would be on the forum anyways but not necessairly in the conquest section.

    ps. anyone know how to take a word back out of your firefox dictionary? i just accidently added "necessairly" to it.

    Hey Narfi,

    We have no current ETA on the system yet. I've read a few comments in the thread where the mod was released that things started looking a bit weird after a while of playing, so I imagine we run it for a period of 2 weeks or a month at least.

    As for the suggestion on the forum-alert, I'll dive into the code and see if it'd be easy to implement or not :)

    Fixed a bug where the avatars were not showing up properly in the forums. However, I doubt I can implement a forum notification without spending quite a bit of time on it.

    I'll see if maybe someone else already built something along those lines, though :)
     
  3. I love it so far slowly working out what is going on ( Though Im still not sure) But being an impatient person I would like it to go a little faster... Any chance of increasing the rate of play? x2 maybe? Just a bit? Otherwise it may get boring and you just quit it :dunno:

    Maybe 1 cycle every 30 minutes instead of 60, esp if the games will only last a few weeks, otherwise the higher training and weapons would never get used.

  6. The max cycles you can accumulate are limited to 50, everything above gets lost, so this must be changed accordingly then.

    Why? even with a cycle every 30 minutes thats still more than 24 hours, I dont think there are many compulsive forum users that cant get online in that amount of time.

    Another option could be to just double the base cycle production to 2men, and 20 gold while maintaining just 1 turn per hour.

  8. Even i can't guarantee that i can play the game at least 5 min every 24 hours (or 25 to be precise) - and i am part of the EP tech crew and basically live on EP atm... :P

    However, i find it wrong to be forced to play EVERY day to not be disadvantaged - the current period of 50 hours (2 days & 2 hours) is fine and should be kept. You've seen what happened to those who signed up and didn't check back for more than a day: They quickly became the cash cow for all the other players.


    I think there should be some reward for "winning" (i know, there is no real "winning condition", but i guess when one of the nations become overly dominant it makes little sense to keep playing and it should all be started over) - something like a forum wide counter, and all members of the #1 nation should get +1 point - so after playing it for some time we would have a nice ranking which gives some kind of "long term" incentive to play the game, especially with different "mixtures" of members.
     
  9. Is it possible to include a box with text ready for copy/paste to nation forum, of spy missions and attack raids?

    I'm not entirely sure what you mean? Could you please be a bit more specific?

    In other news, I removed the public display of IP addresses in the clan-forums after finding they were showing up in there. Sorry about that. Never even realised they showed up in there.

    I've collected some ideas and will be making some changes to the system soon. The end goal is to provide a better balanced system. One of the changes deals with making it impossible for new people to join a faction if the faction currently is the most popular one, in order to prevent people from just joining the strongest one.

    There are also a few technical things I'll be addressing, though the impact of most of these should be invisible to you. I'll keep everyone updated when things changed, and then will probably reset the game shortly after.


    But judging by the response so far, I think the system is quite popular. We could run more stuff like this if you lot are interested.
     

  11. If you try to copy & paste a line from the "Offense History", it becomes invisible in the nations forum editor (it is still in there tho, at least it consumes space)



    @Kosh:

    We have already discussed a much more convenient replacement for the tiny nation forums,
    it might take a bit tho to implement that.


    And aye, i'm totally for more games like this, not all at once tho, so we have time to try them all :D

    It seems like the cycle clock looses time. When we first started the cycles came at x:30, then gradually moved up to x:45, x:00, x:15, and now seem to be almost up to x:30 again.

    Either a consistent published cycle time, or a count down timer might make it easier. I was going to do something on my coffee break today, but the 1 extra turn I expected didn't happen until x:20+

  13. Yes, i've experienced this, too - very likely because the game relies on forum mechanisms to do the update and the lower forum activity at night can cause such a delay - this will be easy to fix tho.

    I don't understand why it makes use of this, there are better mechanisms to calculate the updates - i will check that, too... may take a bit, not exactly high priority, but there will be minor customizations for parts of the game anyway.

    I can add a "time to next cycle" if there are no objections to that, it will not be very accurate im afraid.
     
  14. For the nations may I suggest there be only one nation with the word soul in....i get confused which ones which with the two of them being so similar.

    So we should keep Soul Caliber (since i suggested thsi first). Soul Edge maybe should be renamed to The Edge?
     

  15. Changing the names while the game is running is no good idea, this can be done when the game will be reset anyway.

    Something related to EU maybe?

    Amethera, Eudoria and Crystal Palace - maybe someone can take screenies and make 3 new versions of the nations standard pics, something that represents the "nation", maybe the Athena Spaceport sculptures for Eudoria, the deer building for Amethera (do we still have a deer building post-VU 10?)...??

    I moved the job to the actual servers task scheduler, which DOES run every minute.

    As for the time to next cycle, I think I already found a way to do that. I'll have a quick peek later today to see what quick wins I can make for the game.

    As for theming the game, I'm all for that. We could also make it a battle between different planets, or MOBs. I.e. Ambulimaxes versus Aurlis versus Hoggloes. We can use more than 3 factions, or perhaps limit it to 2.

    I could also set up different variations running simultaniously, some maybe for long-term, while others have a two-week cycle, and thus require completely different strategies. In any case, we will be hooking the system to the EPD system, allowing you to use your EPD for additional resources (albeit limited as to not give rich EPD users too big of an advantage).


    Good stuff so far, please do keep it coming. Regardless of how obscure the suggestions might be, we just might end up building it :)

    Some of the stuff that I'll be adding at some point:

    * Trading system: You can send gold or troops to allies in need
    * Time left to next cycle counter
    * Implementing a "spread" to ensure no single faction becomes disproportionally big

    I like the idea of a couple of different games going at once with different rules for each one. Trade would be awesome and add an entire new dynamic to it. A game with no nations could also be interesting, but it could also go south real quick if 3-4 of the real strategists banded together and wiped everyone out... maybe do that with some set win point.

  18. I'm receiving a turn every hour. Isn't it supposed to be one every half hour?

    Is this only happening to me? why me :cry:
