  1. Information on VU 15.8.5

On Tuesday, May 17, MindArk will implement Entropia Universe Version Update 15.8.5. This update focuses on improving the visual appearance and client performance of Entropia Universe, and includes:

    • Improved compression of terrain textures, resulting in smoother landscapes and removal of the tiling effect
    • Level of detail (LoD) enhancements and bug fixes.
    • Improved billboard rendering with transform and color.
    • Post-processing added to rendering of items displayed in the item info panel, and item icons.
    • A new client setting available in the Advanced Options panel for managing anisotropic filtering.

Due to the types of changes being implemented, VU 15.8.5 will require a larger than usual client patch (approximately 4 GB).

Our development and graphics teams have been working hard on these improvements, which we hope will enrich everyone’s Entropia Universe experience!

  2. hmmm hmmmm, 4gb of imp-compression on textures you say.

What could possibly go wrong. Let me SEE !

  3. I'm sure it will be implemented with Mindark's usual efficiency.

To be true... they are normally efficient... at least when it comes to Version Update *deployment*. Just the updates themselves seem to take forever to happen these days.

I'd love to see a bit more technical info (perhaps a blog) on the sort of things they have been doing to improve things. I can't see how doing so could EVER negatively impact the economy.... but hey, it is MindArk. Such things don't happen.

Anyway, the after looks good so a big HOORAY for the "details gang" I have noticed seem to have been taking over this last year or so. Getting into the nitty gritties of improving the engine/rendering was never going to be a "quick win" kind of job so it sounds good that they took some time to look into this.

All that said, I have to side with McCormick, "what could, possibly go wrong?" ;) Weeellll.... it IS Mindark. So probably everything. Just because they have done some some in depth work (hopefully), doesn't mean they have magically started testing anything ;) I for one am expecting a world of rendering errors and grey textures at least for a few days anyhow.

    But we shall SEE ,-)

Personally, I am down with that. So long as they actually pull it off!

It will be nice if tree stumps stop pinging from one thing to another and rotating in weird ways. It would be nice if the clouds stopped rotating when you look at them from different angles...

Elements of Entropia always remind me of this video... just please, no one pick up the landscape this time OK?

Fuck Yea! Finally! I yawn over the terrains everyday, now no more!

  10. It's nice that they have real life employees working on this stuff, but it does seem like there are better things to work on.

Hold your horses Amber wait for the "result" ;)

I dunno, if there is a hike in both performance and appearance then that is time well spent in my view. If everything turns grey and the frame rate dies a death then maybe not...

I'm getting VU10 flashbacks....is this where they increase system requirements so yet more people can't log in and sell out?

  15. VU 10, when everything was sooooOoooO amazingly real with CryEngine...its getting even realererererere x'D

Glad they are making the hide UI action an actual hide UI action again rather than a hide most of the UI action. It was messing up my screenshots

Anisotropia filtering isn't usually much of a performance hit in most games... then again, Entropia isn't most games...

  18. Antiisotropia xD

I tried it last night and I'm Impressed and amazed!
Have no real measurements but it feels like I have better performance. But what matters is that things looks better :)
The icons in my inventory/storage aren't perfect but I'll get used to it. Although there are some glitches around these icons, hehe.

  20. Have old gtx 660 so playing on low settings already before this VU.
Had to put it on high to force game to redraw icons then back to low to keep fan in silence.
So probably no any change for me..
