EntropiaPlanets.com, the forum that brought you the integrated Wiki and tracker, is proud to present a new feature that allows you to track your progress with the Missions.

The tool basically shows you a list of the missions available, and you can click those you finished. The list of the missions contain links to the EntropiaPlanets wiki page for the individual missions so you can easily check what the requirements of the missions are, or where to find the mission.

On the mission pages in the wiki, you will also be able to see whether you marked a particular mission as completed, and you can see which other participants already did finish it.

We have a bunch of additional ideas on how to fully integrate this with the forum and the existing features, and add some additional nifty features to it, but we figured we would release it and collect some feedback from you people before we do :)

One thing to keep in mind is that you need to be logged into EntropiaPlanets for this to work. You can find the mission tracker by going to www.entropiaplanets.com/forums/missions.php, by using the EP Tools dropdown menu in the EP navigation bar, or by heading over to www.entropiamissions.com, and using the Mission Tracker link from there.

Bugs and suggestions can be made in the EntropiaPlanets bug tracker :)

    Enjoy :tiphat:

    Looks awesome!

Is there a way to un-check accidentally checked off missions?

  3. The system is intentionally designed to not let you do that - after all, the timing is of some importance - if you are amongst the first 5 to mark the mission as completed, your name will always show up on the colonists list in the wiki - if you do later, there is only a small chance your avatar name will appear on th bottom of the list.

If you checked off a mission by accident, please PM an admin to fix that for you.

    Looks nice but...

The missions can be checked as done even if they are not done. This will screw up the list of people that have done the missions.

What would be very cool is just to have a small icon sitting in the mission fact sheet that tells you if you have done the mission or not. Just a little green tick and a red cross will do I think, right next to the Personal Status. Just something simple.

Cool - marked the ones I have done so far :boxer:

  6. Nice one :) I have put in the ones done so far :alcohol:

  7. Coachman

    Coachman RESCUER

    Very nice feature.

But I notice that the foul missions are missing in the list.

  8. The Foul Missions were accidentially mislabelled as belonging to the "Iron challenge - Feffoid" Mission Group - fixed now :)

However, there are a few (should be 4) scouting missions missing, if you know the name and objective of these missions, please add them to the wiki missions overview

This is a general problem with edits to any wiki out there (the mission subsystem is even more strict, as it doesn't allow you to edit other peoples data), and i see no way to prevent people from doing that, other than checking screenshot and restrict entering of data to admins (but then again, what about the people who have finished the missions already and didn't take screenies?)

I think we can rely on the fact that lying about your missions gives you more bad credit than fame.

The list is limited to 15 entries max. so it will not stretch the wiki pages beyond a certain height - we will do some cosmetic changes in the near future tho, like additional (and better) icons.

If the list interferes with your wiki layout plans, i am open to suggestions - like different font size, or the 3 list sections next to eachother instead of stacked, so they consume less vertical space.

Well it is just that I have doubts if this info is of any use in the wiki. I can understand a small icon or something to show you if YOU did the mission, but making the wiki achievements thing is not what a wiki is supposed to be if you ask me.

I would like an achievements page somewhere else, but not in the wiki.

  10. There will be a lot of custom functions in the future, displaying all kind of data from the database, most of them will be of more or less purely informational value (you may see the mission tracker as a first field test for homegrown wiki parse hooks) - i agree, a "hall of fame" table is not strictly informational (it aint completely useless tho, even from an information point of view - if you seek info that can't be provided thru the wiki, like i.e. "how much did you spend/lose to complete that mission" for instance, you know who you can ask), but imo, the "highest loots on this mob/ressource/crafted item" showing date/time and avatar name is not much different.

I would prefer tho that we discuss objections which put a question mark over complete features in the staff lounge and leave the public parts of the forum to the "how to improve/adapt/enhance certain features" discussions and "useful, not useful, useful with this and that addition..." or similar feedback.

Yep. It's not a matter of having the icon thing OR the info we have now.
It would be nice to have the short info as an addition at least.

So something like {{mission_short #21}} that's only adding somthing like:

    [[File:Pending.png]] ??? [http://www.entropiaplanets.com/forums/missions.php (click to change)]

    OR

[[File:Inprogress.png]] Accepted [http://www.entropiaplanets.com/forums/missions.php (click to change)]

    OR

[[File:Solved.png]] Completed [http://www.entropiaplanets.com/forums/missions.php (click to change)]

Displaying a Top 10 of who completed a mission first (or Top 10 highest loot on a specific LA or from a specific mob or...) is something that might be valid info for some people.
To soften this issue I would suggest to make that section of the page collapsible: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Collapsible_tables

  12. That's a good sugggestion, something definitely worth considering.

We do not need the wiki addon tho, the current parsing hook uses "only" wiki tags, but we can output raw html if we wish.

I have a bit trouble understanding the feedback tho, this first (very basic) parsing hook opens up a whole new dimension of custom content, it enables us to go far beyond the limits of the "normal" wiki - but instead of an incoming flood of ideas we discuss the presence of info that may break your layout plan (which can be easily adapted, my knowledge of the wiki tags is mediocre at best), but seriously, it's not like it hurts someone to have that stuff there.

After a brief period of downtime, we're happy to announce a new version of the EntropiaPlanets Mission Tracker. The changes made are not radically different from last time, though the system has been rebuilt.

The main change you will see is that rather than having one large page, all the currently available Entropia Missions will now be displayed split over several pages with the little paging functionality you will recognize from the forums.

We also added the recently added missions, and sorted the missions a bit different. The new order reflects that the Calypso Gateway missions will be the first missions seen by newcomers, followed by the missions based around the Swamp Camp. We then added the branching missions taking place around the Cyclops Area and the Ishido Salvage Operations. Lastly, the Iron Challenge Missions.

We expect to deliver some additional exciting functionality within the Mission Tracker soon, but for now just wanted to ensure it's available for you again.

I'll now go to work to re-enable the hook that displays statistics from the mission tracker to the EntropiaPlanets Wiki. You may find that not all of the missions have working Wiki pages yet, and the wikihook will not exist on the newest pages yet, but this is something that I'll hopefully find time to deal with within the next few days.

Should you wish to contribute to finishing the wiki pages for the new missions, feel free to grab the layout from an existing mission page, and create a page for the new mission yourself :) Anyone with an EntropiaPlanets forum account can contribute to the wiki, without requiring a seperate login and password :)

For those new to the forum, the Mission Tracker is either accessible directly here: Entropia Mission Tracker or alternatively under the EP Tools menu within the forum's navigation bar.

The wiki hook has been re-enabled. This means that you can see your individual status at the bottom of the wiki pages of individual missions.

As stated, it is possible that not all of the wiki-pages have this enabled yet, but this will be taken care of :)

A suggestion for sometime down the line when you have time. (or now before it becomes more difficult to change)

Have the "groups" of missions displayed in an expandable tree form so that each "group" of missions can be seen easily, and if/when you want to expand that "group" to view or mark off missions youve done you can just click it to expand that "group"

Im not explaning it very well but hope you understand what I mean.

for example when viewing it you would see,

    Gateway Hunting
    Gateway Mining
    Gateway Crafting

Then If you clicked on "understanding mining" you would see,

    Gateway Hunting
    Gateway Mining
    - - - Understanding Mining
    - - - Mining 101 Lesson 1
    - - - Mining 101 Lesson 2
    - - - Mining 101 Lesson 3
    Gateway Crafting

The same could be done with all of the iron missions as well as the "series" missions where each one unlocks the next until you have finished that specific storyline. The whole storyline's worth of missions could be under one section.

There could be a check mark that is displayed on each branch if everything within it has been completed.

Not sure how hard it would be to implement, but I think that for me it would really make it easier to use and read both.

keep up the good work :)

Those things you suggested are on my list :) Tass suggested the completion of a branch already and i figured i might then as well add the "tree" functionality.

The database has been prepared for some of it but i will try and come up with something that might tie the mission tracker even more tightly to the wiki.

Thanks again, though. Suggestions like this that make your lives easier are always welcome. We might just end up actually building it ;)

    Hi :)

When I go to the Mission Tracker and click on the Mark as Complete link for some new ones I have done - the page refreshes, but has not updated my status for the mission I clicked....

  20. Same for me now :(

    Looks really nice :)
