Hanging out lazy on my sofa in front of the 65" TV with a bottle of whisky and some beer ...

I plugged my PC to the TV, mainly to play Skyrim, but I surf a bit now and than or watch HD porns there ;-)

Today was a milestone for my life. I found this review of today's state of the art 3d scanning tools with smartphones or tablets:
    http://3dscanexpert.com/autodesk-photogrammetry-review-recap-360/

This means probably a basic change of my life. Don't laugh! Way back in the past (~2003) I fell into deep depressions wich lingered on for more than 10 years. What happens in such case is hard to explain to people who didn't know it from own experiance. But at this time a local artist placed a bronze statue in my home town, called "Narr" (fool):
    upload_2017-3-25_19-25-44.png
When I saw it for the first time, I thought by myself: "Shit, that's me. A hollow and desperate fool." I love this sculpture. (Sorry, couldn't find a better picture and was too lazy to check my old archives.) And guess what, I will be able to place it to my living room. I was afraid, my old Samsung tablet couldn't do the job. Immediately I visited a local dealer and found this baby: Samsung Galaxy Tab S3.
    http://www.samsung.com/de/tablets/galaxy-tab-s3-9-7-t825/SM-T825NZKADBT/?cid=de_ppc_google_pla-imecom-galaxy+tab+s3+(lte)-ecom-buy_20170325&s_kwcid=AL!281!3!188222927965!!!g!!&ef_id=VQSALwAABUmhkbiT:20170325184145:s

I tested the included pen allready ... it's amazing! Writing and drawing are pure fun for pencil- and penholder-addicted guys like me. Well, the price ... ***ROLLEYES*** Fortunately my current job will linger on for a few days more than expected. And 20 additional hours of work are enough to earn all the money I need to buy it. I assume, this tablet is kinda high-flyer from Samsung again. I'm sure, I will scan the sculpture at next weekend - latest. I will make a print with the CopperFill material. And I'm pretty sure it'll give good benefit to me.

Furthermore I tested flexible PLA with my 3d-printer. Holly shit, guys, I can print rubber parts! The reason was the dental prothesis I got from a dentist lately. It's pretty stiff and aggravating. So I asked a former colleague for a scan of it and treated it in Rhino a bit. And I printed my own version with flexible material. It's already better than the original from the dentist but not perfect yet. A work in progress even. But nonetheless a breathtaking new opprtunity: print flexible parts!

    Stay tuned!

More and more I love the old saying:

    Everyone said: "That's impossible."
Than one popped up, who didn't know this.
    And simply made it.

Amber Knightley I see dead people.

Now this is a game changer! Printing your own "health care" parts privately with better performance than official shit :)
    Good job man!

Yep, initially it was meant as "game changer". I know two or three things about 3d-CAD, scanning and printing. But I missed some knowledge about dental issues. So I asked the dentist to participate in my project. But she denied and offered a conventional treatment instead. My mistake: I agreed. Now - after nearly half a year of treatment - I own a 3500 Euro-scan model. But each new print costs less than two cigarettes. That's worth to improve. Not to speak about the possible jokes with cubic teeth, fangs or green colour ... ;-)

Yo folks, guess what happens! It's not that easy to buy this tablet. Local dealer told me: seven weeks for delivery. HELL, WHAT? Amazon says: earliest date of delivery March, 31. Well, at least I can understand that. Samsung will beat Apple by launching it. It is thin, stylish, light weight and the pen pushes the usability widely. Regarding this baby I start to understand Apple-freaks. I saw it first at a supermarket, tested the pen, lifted it, to test the weight and fell in love immediately. Well, I clicked the "buy"-button at Amazon. But I doubt I will start with it at next weekend. Side note: Day one of working for the tablet = 230 Euro ;-)

Isn't it a seduce view? It is! I will test Autodesk's ReCap 360 in high resulution. Probably we are at a completely new way! I can imagine that shelf by myself - allthough it's a pain in the arse to wear such prothesises. But it's an interesting playground.

A holiday in Eastern Europe was my reaction the last time I got such a proposal. If DIY for the parts insurance doesn't cover is in our future, all the better!

Well, Amazon announced the delivery of my new tablet for monday. Seven days instead of seven weeks ;-)

But the story goes on at another place! A customer offered to me re-learning Tebis. I learned this software ~ 10 years ago but didn't use it very often. That would be the blast! I talk about one special module of this software: reverse engineering, the ability to make good 3d-models from scans. Exactly my theme. I have access to one licence meanwhile. That's amazing.

It's not that simple so far. But in the near future it should be possible to use a 3d-scan of your teeth and some sculpting software for cheap self-printed prothesises. You can buy good 3d-models of teeth already for ~ $25.

I can imagine scaling to the individual mouth, and fitting to specific irregularities could be time consuming?

Well, all you need is a good scan of the actual situation and either good knowledge in CAD and sculpting or a good software wich does the job for you.

    Update:
I earned only nearly the additionally money for the new super tablet (80%) from the last job. But I can live with it. Additional I will get a 3-day free refreshing training in Tebis next week from a customer and a new duty for a job from home office. I know Tebis Surf's abilities from the past. It's strange - something like Catia V4 under Unix way back in the past - but impressive. And I will be able to use it for private purpose as well. Carefully worded:
    That makes me happy :beerchug:

Again: So many new opportunities! I'm overwhelmed.

Amazon announced delivery of the new tablet for Monday. I will be out of office until Thursday. Really sad. How ever, I will be back at Thursday or Friday with new results.

Yep. Tablet arrived. 27 Photos of the "Fool"-statue taken. Proceeded with free low version of Autodesk's "ReCap 360".

I am impressed. These guys at Autodesk are definitely right on course! Here are screenshots from Rhino of what I got so far (exported as .obj):

At the other hand they are incredible stupid regarding the user interface. I didn't find the button for publish the model to a 3d-viewer yet. Nerds even!

Well, this was my first day and my first attempt. Without finishing and repairs. I'm pretty sure it points to the right direction. Next issue will be 3d-print.

My son wrote a mail to me with a screenshot from a 4k-video: upload_2017-4-8_0-45-38.png

    Taken by a Quadcopter.
Imagine you fly around villages or fly several circles above cities and use the pictures in ReCap 360! It would be pretty raw. But who cares? You would get a 3d-model of a town including hight of the ground and textures. At least you can print it!

Currently I try to stich screenshots of my Ulla Braun from Skyrim in ReCap.

Processing takes time. I assume because I use the free version so far.

Autodesk explains in a video-tutorial, that glossy items won't work. But I couldn't resist to take a few photos of my little MX-5. Well, I have to admit, the tutorial was right:

Okay, I try to show you my best model so far. It is a 3d PDF of the fool. It has errors and is pretty rough. Probably additional photos and buy the pro-version of ReCap 360 for $30 for a month will help.

    7,2 MB.

    Was a try ...
