    Hello,

One hour ago i installed ad-aware on my parent's pc (downloaded it form filehippo). It started downloading some patches etc.
Then it asked to restart my pc. did that.
    few moments later it showed that;

    PSHED.dll was missing
    errorcode: 0xc0000098

Couldn't access anything related to windows, except for the memory test.
Each time i choose an option it just reboots.

Googled a bit for it but it only showed issues with SP1 for vista.

I am not able to get the precise configuration of that pc, but it runs on windows vista, and normally it's up-to-date.
And i have no installation cd.
the only solution i can think of is booting with something like BartPE, and copying the missing file. But i'm not going to do this if it doesn't work

    Thanks in advance
    K.

Without the CD, repairing this will be difficult. Any way to obtain a CD somewhere and then run a repair? Otherwise, the solution you suggested with the BartPE might be the best way to go at it.

  3. Preinstalled windows versions usually (almost always) have a hidden partition on the main HD that hold files to restore the operating system.

That why your system asks you to burn a "recovery CD/DVD" during the first days - if you don't have that (i.e. because you were too lazy to burn it), you're pretty much screwed, contact your manufacturer for details on how and if you can fix this.

No idea what you have installed tho, no software (maybe except system level drivers) should corrupt any parts of the system, are you sure that your installation file wasn't somehow "tampered with" (as in, downloaded it from a questionable source)?

did find something mentioning a registry scanner/fixer might correct the problem.
Either that or like mentioned a repair install with the cd.

RAZER Custom title ... uh ...

Maybe get the file from some other computer and put it one you parents one. May not work, but can't really hurt to try either.

Use a Ubuntu live disc or something to add it to the computer.

  6. Be careful with "fixer" applications, most of the time, the first problem (missing .dll) is caused by some application to make you run an alledged "fixing program" with full system access (or in native DOS mode, where nothing protects your computer, and all system files are exposed to malware) to get rid of the problem...

it will get rid of the problem, but very likely install a rootkit or something, so unless you are 100% sure you downloaded that "fixer" from a trustworthy site, better go for the "repair windows" option.

Ubuntu alone will not help you, as the windows main disc is very likely an NTFS disc, and ubuntu can't handle it w/o additional steps (google for "ntfs-3g" or "ubuntu NTFS")
