Yes, would be cool to design and build in VR. Have a look at this one and imagine you could do it in VR:

Until now my brick stack is pretty limited:
    upload_2019-3-12_1-5-24.png
But I'm working on it. My current model looks like this meanwhile:
    upload_2019-3-12_2-48-3.png
Running around it in VR I found a wrong positioned part and saw that one part was missing :-)

is that a lego version of your transmission gearbox?

LOL no. It's just a LEGO Technic set. It is a bit tricky to understand the raster they use. Many parts I've made at the start arn't very good because I knew nothing about the system. Slowly the new parts became better and better and finally I will rebuild them all with my version of these bricks. The LEGO-parts must work in RL, my parts must work in CAD and VR.

Today I made an Earth (~13000km diameter) and positioned my start point at 400km above the surface (approximately like the ISS).
    upload_2019-3-15_1-52-56.png
But the software was completely overstrained. It couldn't show me this model.

At least I had access to the first draw of my houseboat for the summer. It's just a dream. I don't have the money to built it in RL. But hey, I can make it in VR:

    upload_2019-3-16_0-37-2.png
    upload_2019-3-16_0-33-7.png
Well, it's length is 0,015km only. The software could handle it :-) The model is pretty rough so far. Because I have to find solutions for all areas of living for half a year aboard a boat. The operator's cab is missing yet and a storage room at the prow. And lots of other things. But it's funny to play around with this little dream and be able to inspect it in VR.
Best part is: I could make a model kit of 30cm (1:50) or 60cm (1:25) of it and print it. Alas, I am too lazy for that ...

    upload_2019-3-16_0-58-21.png
A cannon would be cool for this one ... no problem in VR ... lol!

Finally it should look like this:

Well, the model is done in Rhino:
    upload_2019-3-18_1-42-50.png
Doesn't look impressive as I thought in VR:
    upload_2019-3-18_1-47-58.png
This LEGO thing is a dead end road. I will stop it and focus on Game Of Thrones, my boat and such.

Well, since we wait for the grand final of HBO's Game Of Thrones, I thought about making some special places of Westeros availible for VR. Number one would be - of course - Winterfell for me:
    upload_2019-3-19_0-46-29.png
    upload_2019-3-19_0-49-8.png
But this would be a real big challenge for a beginner. Another important place is Castle Black. It is smaller and should be easy. Found pictures of the original set in Northern Ireland:
    upload_2019-3-19_0-52-30.png
    upload_2019-3-19_0-51-44.png
The wall doesn't look very impressive. And ... a thousand men there? LOL! I think it would shelter 20-30 people. But hey, it's just a fantasy story.
Castle Black appears 57 times in seasons 1-7, including the gate to the north. Let's see what we can do from that.

    Off topic ...
Beside of all this AI, VR and 3D-printing I made special stands for the speakers of my Dolby Surround device in real life. From 3mm laser cutted stainless steel sheets, ø20mm stainless steel tubes and turned parts of beechwood as feet. Nothing new to me. But the new experiance was: I glued the steel sheets! With a really badass glue from 3M. Unbelivable! After 10 minutes the job was done. No welding, no screws, just glued. I like the times I live in with all these abilities. Laser cutted metal parts simply glued. Crazy!

  12. Speakers look cool.

Could a high-end soundbar sound as good these days do you know?

  13. Jamira

Well, it's Dolby Surround. A midspeaker plus right and left speaker in front of you and right and left speaker behind of you. Plus the subwoofer somewhere ofc. For me it's important for some movies. Sound from right behind (source not visibleI at the screen) comes from right behind. Like in cinema. I can't compare it to modern soundbars. But I assume they have a serious problem with "behind" ;-)
You can test Dolby Surround with a headphone. I doubt that it's possible to make such sound with just a bar in front of you.

  14. Thanks Jamira...found some info in Which? Consumer Magazine:

“Dolby Atmos was initially introduced to the world through cinemas and is considered the crème de la crème of sound bar features. It’s the newest development in surround sound and is supposed to create an authentic cinematic experience in the comfort of your own home. By bouncing sound waves off the walls and ceiling, it immerses you in captivating, moving audio that feels like it’s flowing all around you.

Described as object-based sound, Dolby Atmos transports you into the heart of the action by illustrating the movement of every object, meaning the sound of soaring aeroplanes, thunder or birds can be heard and felt above and around you. So if you’re watching your favourite artist on stage at The Brits, it’ll feel like they’re performing in your living room.

A sound bar with Dolby Atmos should give you a full surround sound experience without the need for a multi-speaker home cinema setup. But, while many sound bars claim to deliver virtual surround sound, we’ve found that the majority fail to do it well. It’s easy to end up paying for a model that promises enveloping audio yet delivers a flat, dull experience.

It may be hard to imagine impressive, room-filling surround sound coming out of one small device. Nevertheless, we’ve uncovered some good models with Dolby Atmos, plus one Best Buy that left our tough listening experts speechless. But recent tests have also exposed a very expensive Don’t Buy by Bose”.

  15. Eg.

    Sony HT-ZF9, £489
    [IMG]
Vertical Surround Engine is Sony’s latest surround sound technology and it means you should be able to enjoy an exhilarating cinematic experience with the newest formats such as Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. The HT-ZF9 has a cinema mode to intensify movie quality, plus it also has settings to boost music, games, news and sports.

If you love music, you may be tempted by the built-in Chromecast, which lets you stream music, online radio and podcasts from your smartphone, tablet or laptop. Plus, High-Resolution Audio and DSEE HX™ technology should amplify music to near high-resolution sound quality.

This model works with the Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, so you can use effortless voice commands to adjust volume, play your favourite song or change the channel.

You may be hoping to strike a bargain with this model as it’s one of the cheaper Atmos sound bars and is full of attractive features. Find out if you can get a brilliant sound bar for less by reading our Sony HT-ZF9 review”.

Unfortunately my free trial to Which? has just expired so can’t access their detailed review or the reviews of more expensive ones they tested.

LOL! Murphy's Law: I just finished four extraordinary speaker stands for my SAMSUNG blueray-player, approximately 100 Euro each of them and one day later the old device died! No sound, no connection to TV anymore. Cables, PS4 and TV checked. All work properly. It's definately a blueray-player issue. What a mess! I hate it!

599 Euro for Sony HT-ZF9 plus 259 Euro for two optional SA-Z9R rear speaker (wich - ofc - won't fit to my stands)? At least it seams that it works with Alexa ... I will check it tomorrow. No need for a new blueray-player. I can use the PS4 for bluerays. Even for 3D.

Man, what a lot of investments nowadays! But hey, I will become 65 this year. How many years remain? 10, 15? Probably less. So I should hurry up and enjoy as much as possible.

Once we lived in eastern Germany and owned a house. It was originally built by my grandfather. During WW2 it was destroyed except of the basement. But my parents rebuild it. I had a very good childhood there. Unfortunately my father died in 1965 when I was 11 years old. Later my wife and our children lived there. We sold this house and the associated estate. Today it becomes a real challenge to remember how it was back in 1964. But hey, I started to make a model for VR. Pretty early state, but just impressive. Roof is missing, barn is 50% done yet, a Wartburg 311-3D-model is ordered ...

Golo Mann once described the mysterious experiance to enter his father's (Thomas Mann) study. I felt the same in my fathers study in the early 60th. A small cozy room with large windows to north and east, well filled bookshelfs from bottom to ceiling, a tile stove, old desk and armchair, a small table and a bench at the corner to talk to visitors and a picture of Martin Luther above the door.

    I will rebuild it!

  19. I love the idea of you doing this Jamira.

    Good luck!

And you will hopefully reach 100+ years old as medical breakthroughs continue to emerge.
