Shared Loot Questions

  1. I have hunted shared loot mobs, mostly when robots attack Forts. When I log back on later I find shrapnel amounts in my inventory. These amounts do not relate to any robots I have damaged. I assume that this is where a robot has caused some damage to me it & was later killed by another player.
However, I have also hunted shared mobs (defenders near Fort Troy) there are no other players and the robots have no damage (as far as I can see). From time to time other players appear and hunt the same mob I am shooting and kill the mob. - I hate that, but it is not against game rules so I just move far away from them & ensure I stay that way. I have noticed that when I log back on after these activities there is shrapnel in my inventory - where has this come from?
It must have been a share of kills by such other player?
Maybe its just karma rewarding me for suffering an other players discourtesy?

  2. maybe you used a fap and decay from that was returned.

  3. I've always wondered as well where shrapnel comes from, which I've been getting all the time.

I might be miss understanding but I think it's basically if you participate in any way on a shared loot mob. You get back a share of the loot based on what damage you did to it.

I probably shouldn't admit it, but on occasion I've been "that player". Yes "that one". The one that shows up in no armour with a pop gun at mega robot event and pew pews through a few peds of ammo likely dying several times when the robot eventually turns its attention on me or I get hit by area of effect weapons.

Yes that makes me some sort of scavenger I get it. The animal that shows up to knaw the remains of a carcass after the big tigers have done their bit. There's no way I could even hope to do a decent contribution of damage to these things in reality.

What I find though is that it's a lot of fun taking part, especially trying to dodge the area of effect bursts and I usually get back what I put in ped wise if not a few peds more. Probably also that few peds is peanuts to the ubers. Probably worth like one hit on their armour or something.

Anyhow in such scenarios yeh I do occasionally get sudden unexpected loot when I'm back at a revive terminal or something. I put it down to something I accidentally shot without realising that someone then went and killed.

  5. Wistrel, the reason for my post was to wonder where some of those shrapnel amounts appeared from. I know they have to be the consequence of interacting with shared mobs. Some cannot be explained by damage I did or even damage that was done to me by a mob that was not killed until after I logged off.
Decay from a fap was an thing that may well apply - for when is that paid back? I usually repair myself fully before I log off so that if I log on later & find myself immediately in a tense situation at least I have full health to deal with it.

Personally unless I am part of a team, I prefer to hunt alone I do not appreciate other players turning up & joining in. However, shared mobs can be different when there is a melee, say at a fort under attack, everybody is running around shooting left & right - that can even be fun.
I would not consider your actions in such situations scavenging. Like I said, if someone else turns up to my little private party, I would just move away. The last thing I would do would be to make snarky comments to that player (they may just be curious & interested in what is unfolding - I have done that).

The situations that irritate me is when someone else turns up & without asking, joins in hunting the mob I am targeting and they have a more powerful gun & deal out greater damage. Its not kill stealing when the mobs are shared but it is a deeply discourteous action and greedy as well if there is mark up items in the loot.

Just reiterating, what you have been doing is cool :)

  6. What about shrapnel from mobs that are not shared?

Hmm dunno then... I didn't even realise there was a notion of loot compensation for fapping. Really don't know what causes the random shrapnel to turn up. If it definitely isn't something you've accidentally shot at some stage (and someone else later killed) then I really have no idea why you get them. Possibly some sort of... no.. I've no idea.

You could try support but I doubt they'd be of much use, especially with the game being at least partly re-written for Unreal (although I note they ideally should be able to keep a lot of core code... if they have done things right as regards abstracting stuff like loot calculations away from the graphics) I expect they wont want to divert time into current issues, especially if they are not massively detracting from game play or creating a negative experience.

At this stage, short of major bugs that impact the economy or say cause crashes, I doubt they are prioritising fixing anything in Crytopia.

  8. I see shrapnel much like any other loot, except one main difference which is I can convert it into something I'll always need - ammo. My only expense has been the occasional repair fee as the ammo is now almost for free. This has been the case for many months. Does it matter if shrapnel comes from a shared loot mob or not a shared loot mob?

That sounds good! It's been so long since I did the sort of hunt where I compare costs from start to end like decay and ammo etc that I have no idea how things play out these days. Not saying I don't shoot stuff now and then, it's just I've not been playing the "see how much over or under I can get" game for years now.

At some stage I plan to actually go on a proper hunting session but somehow always find other things I'd rather do first.

  10. Well I don't make any records or spreadsheets and such; apparently some players do this, but I do try to gauge general loot patterns or trends for a given mob in a given area that I'll hopefully remember the next time round, but I'm also not always hunting either. As a welcome distraction I'll often get into my Kraka (L) and fly to somewhere almost just for the fun of it, and also to get a TP or two that I haven't got. Other day I managed to find New Switzerland by pure fluke by following that river in northern Amethera.

Awww New Switzerland is lovely IIRC. Been years since I went there. Yeh I never did spreadsheets either. I'd do stuff like grab 10 or 20 ped of ammo, repair armour go blast through the ammo then come back and do a rough calc of loot vs the ammo and decay/repair cost to armour to see see if I'm up or down, sometimes adding on a rough percentage extra to account for what I might get if I sold loot to a reseller.

Closest I got to a spreadsheet was a postit note with tally marks on it for when I was crafting carpet tiles which gave me an at a glance indication of attempts vs successes. I've not been on a TP run for donkeys years. Probably don't have most TPs, but enjoy randomly finding them now and again.

  12. Yes New Switzerland is very nice with lots of calming water and a windmill and gave me a chance to go for a swim and clean my rusty old armour :)
