Vehicle fuel consumption (unscientific test)

Discussion in 'General Entropia Universe Discussion' started by jenny ferr, Aug 29, 2010.

  1. I will be running out or fuel pretty soon in my Saehrimnir Mk1, so thought I should do a test on the fuel consumption, will post results and stuff later. tonight or tomorrow I hope.

it wont be a 1k ped test or even a 50ped test lol (thats why "unscientific test" in the title)

    Test finished all details below

I got thinking about the phrase estimated fuel consumption(see pic) and decided to run a short test(I thought)

So how I did the test:
First part of the test was to drive up a hill all the time, as that should burn most fuel as irl(or if I drove as slow on flat land would it make up the differens?), with me so far? [IMG] (was running back down after each completed uphill drive)
Second part was to drive on a flat surface, didn't find any long complete flat surface tho but an ok area I hope you agree with once you see where.
The acceleration button "W" was held down during all the driving not slowing for anything, just stear away from stones/trees in the second test with a few meters sideways at top speed.

Both tests was done with 50pecs(25oil) of fuel filled up in a completely empty tank(empty tank msg showing)

Location for first test: (North Space Base)
    88657 96453 175 start position
    88657 96153 264 end position

    Starting the test
(the hide is a start/end marker these are at the exact coords)

    End of the test

During this test I could drive 229runs up the hill on 50pec of fuel before running out, which would be 68.7Km in total (this one took ~9.5hours to do so dont ask me to redo it :P)

    Location for second test: (Aloode)
    75400 897xx Start position
    77800 897xx End position
(not completely flat but the elevation was 25m different)

    Start position
During this test I could drive 13 full runs back and fourth(manually turning the vehicle at the end/start line) and ~300m more before running out of fuel, so since one run is 2.4km I could drive 31.55Km in total

    Summary:
68.7Km driving up a hill on 50pecs of fuel
31.55Km driving on flat land on 50pecs of fuel

    Conclusion from this test:
if you wanna save fuel and drive eco, drive as much uphill as you can [IMG]

PS. since the rl model of our Saehrimnir can be driven on ordinary diesel(quality not that important) and plane fuel(english name?) shouldn't we be able to drive on different enmatts too? (melchi)

Will be looking forward to your results Jenny, and ... interesting thoughts about fuel sources ... we have a variety of "types" for our RL vehicles, motorcycles, RV's, trucks, and even our BBQ grills (propane), so why not for the different types of transportation that we're told we will have in our virtual universe (vehicles, boats, spacecraft). That might be a bit complicated, and why MA went the "one size fits all" route. :D

Have fun with your unscientific testing! ;)

  3. thanks already started right outside of NSB :D

Diesel, Jet Fuel, Heating Oil, and kerosene are all basically the same fuel with possible slight differences in the purity, but the main difference would be the way they are taxed.

At least that is how I understand it. (In bush alaska we can burn jet fuel in our tractors or household heaters so I know from experience that they are somewhat interchangeable)

Isn't that consumption mentioned in the vehicle details?

I have once put all oil I had in storage into my car and it seems it holds forever :)

A fuel gauge would be kinda helpfull.

  8. BUMP test finished

It is but the phrase "estimated fuel cost" is as on rl cars they may use that much in a bench test but in reality it's different... see test :)

It seems so yes, and I thought my test with 50pecs was way too much in my first testing as you can see by the hours it took me to complete lol

yeah... does that happen because fuel consumption in EU is related to speed?

  11. Now to report another test I just did, just sitting in the car with the engine running doesn't seem to cost anything at least :D

Been sitting in it for an hour chatting and no change in fuel level, so guess it's safe to say as long as you dont drive it wont cost you anything :)

  12. can't say for sure but I can remember seeing the fuel going out faster when driving downhill...the speed influencing the consumption is pretty logical really, same as RL...

  13. Thought it would be good to know if the vehicles use any fuel at all while only rolling if you never even touch the "gas pedal" (aka "W")

I had only 1pec of oil in it as you will see in the screen shots but it was still possible to start the engine (as it always does when you climb in, but dont consume any fuel)
Put it on a steep hill facing down(du'h) and let it roll all the way into the river where I got ejected, not sure how many rolls I did but somewhere around 15-20 on this hillside.

    Coords for the test here
    Run out of fuel here

    Conclusion:
As long as the car isn't moving there is no fuel consumption, but as soon as it starts to move no matter if it rolls down a hill or you actually drive it it will consume fuel

    This isn't logical tho...
