Hi, my name is Wilson Sukamto, nice to meet you all i am a new player here, infact, im just starting to download EU, and it's in progress now i do have a couple of question that i want to ask though, before i enter the Game as we all know, EU is a game that gives freedom to players, whether to use real money or not, but i understand that in order to progress farther into the game, we need to use some money ( or maybe have to ) now, i am a gamer that isn't really interested to make money off games, i play them to have fun even if i am the one spending money but in this case, since it's unique that EU is a game with real economy, so as a new player, i am willing to start of by investing around $50 and to see how it goes now my question is with $50, can you guys give me a rough idea of how far i can go in EU? while i know that $50 may not last long in EU, but my intention is to use $50 to make my early stage goes smooth any advice guys? because honestly, i have been following EU since 2008, and been reading about it alot, i really want to try and be part of this legendary Game that is different from the rest of the MMOs out there so i really would love to have some advice or assist on how to start the game i have some guides already, but i feel that asking here will be a more convenient thanks for listening :o
500 PEDs or so could make your newcomer experience radically different from a non-depositors. With that in mind however, there are some basic skills that you will need to at least partially master before taking your play to any next step. SOme of the stuff you gain by sweating helps you with mindforce, healing, etc, so don't bypass the noob experience completely and go grabbing armor and weapon right off the boat. One of the things every new player must weigh is skill progression versus total outlay. Many folks will discuss economically skilling up, whereas that may not be the most absolute economical way to play. If you're thinking about hunting, have a look at entropedia, specifically the weapons chart and examine the damage/pec and damage/sec charts. You'll need to weigh your beginning skills compared with a weapon you can handle versus the cost of operation. Similar factors are involved with mining and manufacturing as well. I cannot speak to those as much , since I'm primarily in the game to destroy as many of those damnable robots as possible. :) If you're reading the guides before you start, you're well on your way. Playing smart equals survival on Calypso! Welcome aboard! AG
There are a million and one answers to your questions :P and a million and one paths you could follow as a new player. First you need to decide between Calypso and Rocktropia (if you are starting today) there will be more planets within the next month or so. Calypso: The first Planet and definitely the most established. It has a fully functional economy where everything produced can be bought to someone who could use it. (in theory anyways, some stuff is less efficient so people don't buy it, but it is possible to use) It has a new player area to start in (the Gateway) that you can do beginner missions before actually starting on the real planet. Once on the planet there are tons of missions you could choose from or do your own thing as you choose. Rocktropia: A relatively new planet. Has a much smaller community. (but more of a community feeling since everyone knows everyone) The economic circle isn't complete yet since there are some hunting and mining resources that can not be used yet. (the blueprints should be released any day now we are hoping so that they can be used) Since it is new there are more opportunities for a new player to be a "pioneer" and establish yourself as a part of the planets history. There are advantages and disadvantages to both planets, but think about it before you start, the travel fee between them is 40ped one way. I would recommend not depositing for 1 week if you have the willpower. Spend that week exploring, learning the controls, studying the different markets for both mining and hunting, and sweating some. As a depositer you wont need the ped earned from the sweat, but you will gain some skills, and more importantly familiarity with the game before wasting your real money on the learning experience. After the week is over deposit your 500ped and then start having the real fun :P If you want to mine i would choose just ore or enmatter to start with, get those tools from the trade terminal and 100 bombs or probes. Then go mininng. If you want to hunt, then buy the opalo and vivo t1 from the trade terminal and the cheapest set of pixie armor you can buy from a trader or auction. (use your first week of learning to understand what markup values are for things and where to find traders) Buy 50ped of ammo (that will last you a few hours with your opalo and start hunting the lowest level mob for the planet you are on. (diakeba, merp, exa, snables on Calypso) (lone wolves and video vixens on Rocktropia) That is the quick summery, but there is so much that you have to learn by doing and asking as you do. A good society is imperative to your learning experience. You should ask around, do a little research on different societies, or sign up for the "Adopt a noob foundation" here on entropiaplanets. If your over 18 and from north america, drop me a pm, I might have a slot for you :P good luck and have fun, narfi
thanks for the advice, as for now i couldn't really say much since i haven't personally enter the world yet but i have a brief idea now, and i think you might be right on not depositing right off the bat yeah, i decided to start in Calypso as it is more established, and perhaps more areas to explore and more society just confused, is Rocktopia a part of Calypso? or that is like another server? and is it part of the Calypso Expansion? because i still don't get it, there are separate community between Rocktopia and Calypso as i thought that they are both under Entropia and also, can you breed animal for sale in Calypso? as i am interested to have a farm, lol :o
The Planet Calypso environment includes the planet with two continents, the Crystal Palace Space Station and Club Neverdie, the asteroid "resort". Rocktropia is another planet in the universe. It is a seperate business enterprise from Planet Calypso. One of the things that makes Entropia Universe interesting is that your avatar is not necessarily nailed to one game forever (though I doubt I'll ever leave Calypso or it's two stations. Another thing that makes EU different is that there is only one instance of each location. The town of Port Atlantis is the *only* town of Port Atlantis. So, you'll never miss your friends because their avatar is on the fubar server and you're on thefubnub server. Migration from to or from Rocktropia (presumably the others when they come online also) costs 40 PED for teleportation each way. Several other planets will be coming online in the reportedly near-term future. Your avatar will be able to travel freely between these destinations, but subject to the teleportation fees to do so. AG PS: the pets system prior to the VU 10.x Cryengine2 migration allowed olny for taming animals and getting them to perform a trick or two. You can collect them, but you have to feed them and they cannot breed. What the future pet system will include is known only by First Planet Corp (Owners and manager of Planet Calypso) and MindArk (platform provider for Planet Calypso, Rocktropia, and soon Next Island, Planet Cyrene, and Lootsifer help us, Planet Michael).
ah perhaps can i put it this way? so Calypso = Azeroth Crystal Palace = Kalimdor Club NEVERDIE = Eastern Kingdom *i assume you know about WoW* so both the continent is still in Calypso, and Rocktopia is a whole new world, so going to Rocktopia is just like a server transfer in other MMO? and i heard that in Calypso, a Guide is also a real player, is that true?
Rocktropia is not part of Calypso, they both are different planets in the Entropia Universe. Calypso does have 2 continents where you can travel between for free with the teleporters (TP) and 2 space stations which cost money to go to (25 ped I believe). The advise Narfi gave is a good one, try to play a while without depositing anything. There is a lot to do on Calypso without depositing anything. Try to find all TP's ask a lot of questions, gather some sweat and explore the planet, there are some very nice looking spots to discover. After than, when sweating becomes boring, you could deposit a bit and buy yourself your starting gear, depending on what you wanna do (hunting, mining, crafting) I would advise to try all professions out to see what you like best and then stick with it for a while to get your skills up. Reading your first post you seem to be a sensible guy not expacting to make lots of money and buy a space station anytime soon (or ever), this is the right way to look to the game if you ask me, sure you can make money, but only a few do and they most likely invested lost of money. On other thing is to read EVERYTHING you can find about EU, learn about the mobs, the items and the locations Get Alice's newbie guide if you have not done so already: rp.apachenet.de
Somebody else will have to answer that one. All I know about WoW is that Mr T is a night elf mohawk. An avatar can travel to all those places though and each one is a unique location.
The entire "Universe" is one game, there are different planets with their own unique animals and resources but you can still travel back and forth or purchase items in auction from the other. The only separation between planets is the 40ped travel fee and the 23% auction transport fee. Those two fees keep most people on the same planet most of the time because it would be to expensive to travel around too much. Also some Calypsians don't like Rocktropia because it is "different" (zombies and vampires instead of robots and dinosaurs) and some Rocktropians dont like Calypso because the people there are rude and stuck up. Its all about perception and you can have fun with either with the right attitude. While I am on Rocktropia I can still talk to my society on calypso using soc chat and any of my friends on Calypso through PMs as well. You cant breed animals. You used to be able to tame animals but that function isnt working yet in this version, it should be working again by the end of the year hopefully. have fun, narfi
ok thanks guys, i better read the Alice's guide while waiting for the download to finish which still take about 7 hours =S again, thanks for the help guys! appreciate it
Alice's guide is a gift from God. ok, it's from Alice, but you get my point. Read it and keep it handy at all times. Can't wait to hear your first impressions
and i cant wait to report my 1st impression! :D though, the client download isn't finished yet, Internet is not the best in this Country, sadly =S oh and i have a question again about Sweating, is that what i think it is? ( i mean i know it's collecting parts of the animals we hunt ) but since i know that every new player mostly do sweating, so can it be categorized as "Grinding" ?
yep sweating is grinding, its aiming your sweat gun, pulling the trigger, failing or succeding (about 1/5 ratio maybe) repeat a few times till you die, run back out and repeat. It can be very booring if its not your cup of tea. But because there are areas where lots of people sweat it can be very social as well, and some people enjoy sweating for years on end. Its all about personality, attitude and expectations. You will gain skills, and be able to sell them for a small amount of ped, but the skill gain is slow and the ped earned is laughable compared to what you could make an hour in a rl job. I guess the point is if your going to sweat do it for fun, dont expect it to be your new get rich quick job. If you play for fun and separate ped from dollars in your mind, then it can be very fun and rewarding. gl and have fun, narfi
yep sweating can be very boring, bu there are ways to make it more fun. The Swunt is one of them, but you will need a weapon for that. Sweating a mob until dry (no more sweat) and then kill it. You can even do this with a large team on big mobs. Ambulimax at Nea's Place is the most famous example. You can also give yourself a challenge by tying to get an amount of sweat in the shortest possible time. There is a thread on PCF that challenges you to get 55 pulls of sweat in the shortest time possible, I never sweat, but that was very fun to do :D
About the sweat... It's not the stuff that pools on you when you try to run a marathon. It's Vibrant Sweat, which I believe is something like the life essence of the creature. The old collection method involved no equipment, just some chanting, something that sounded like your pulde or a drumbeat, and less luck than the current method.
hello, i finished downloading and have been spending sometime now on the Gateway starter area, i am now encountering my 1st problem, lol so i am told to make a basic item from the Construction Machine using a Blueprint that i was given, but i keep dragging the blueprint into the Construction Machine, but the blueprint wont go in how do you make the blue print goes into the Construction Machine?
ahh i see! now i get how it works thanks! so far so good, training in Calypso is very clear and direct, always a plus!
Please continue to update us on your adventures, its good to hear impressions of the gateway and how its going since we cant go there anymore. gl and have fun, narfi
ok so i completed all my tutorials but there is 1 thing left, i managed to miss 1 quest there that needs me to find fragments off some creature, but the problem is my weapon is damaged already, and (L) weapons cant be repaired, my question is, how do i get another Solommat Kiwio weapon? because without it, i cant continue the quest, well, it isn't necessarily, but i just want to complete everything there since i cant go back once i port to Atlantis and 1 more thing, Carstein Sands ask us to buy him a beer, and with only 2 options which both led to us not buying him a beer if we were to have PEDS, will the answer change? or we aren't meant to buy him a beer?
