Thanks Ozi ... I already have Peter Gabriel's Solsbury Hill in the MSR jukebox playing on rotation. It's one of my favorites as well. I also like the other track you loaded up too, but for some reason it hasn't found it to music library, but it will now. :)

After I finish an article for the front page on Friday, I will be working on adding more music from the lists here to the jukebox, as well as creating special playlists.

    Thanks for the contributions.

    Holy Cow ... I think I created a monster ... LOL ... Ori, you've exploded.

That's not a bad thing, but I think I would more appreciate English version tracks so that I can understand them when I listen, even though the music rocks ... I really love a lot of your songs for sure. It's just that, not being able to understand the lyrics, I don't know what the content is, and I bring this up because I'm one to follow dictates of the EULA, as well as standards set by MSR.

To be more specific ... let me share what transpired in Twitchie's thread when he was a DJ at the time MSR was first created. It explains my position (Post #6) with regard to content played on MSR, as well as outlines the section of the EULA I'm referring to, which also cites "sounds" to be included in the rule, and would apply to radio content.

Other radio stations make their choices, and I have no issue with that whatsoever, it's just a personal choice on my part to exclude certain content, and certain foul language that isn't required to enjoy music. Besides, there are many who play MSR through speakers in their offices, and tracks playing with the "F-Word" popping up every other sentence is not acceptable. I've gotten great feedback on the jukebox music, and I am constantly adding to it, and why I created this thread. Perhaps I should have been more specific at the beginning so that things were more clear, and I take responsibility for that.

I appreciate your consideration regarding this, so please continue adding your favorite artists and songs with the above in mind. I want to explode the MSR jukebox library as well.

    Thank you very much.

  7. Hi! (MS9) yes! i do understand your ponit! regarding only having tunes in the english language :) though i have listed nothing obscene or offensive presented in the lyrics by the non-english singing bands! firstly to the viking/folk/metal stuff yes! a lot of this music in particular is sung in norwegian/Galic/icelandic and the topic's are celtic/viking myths and mythology/ the viking sagas and legends ect. so! totally nothing obscene! a history lesson if anything  next the industrial! about 95% of the time most non-english language industrial will be in german! bands like Melotron/Eisbrecher for example! as germany was one of the for most fathers of industrial music genre and to this day! still leads the world in new innovations in industrial sounds some of the best industrial and EBM is from germany. then we have the other 5% many of the bands are from mexico as the genre of industrial called harsh/terror is huge in that country with bands like Hocico yes! this genre can get very aggressive and violent but it is rare that you will hear offencive language and thats the point here! i to think one dose not need the sware every 5 seconds or if ever to get a point accross this to me is just very unintelligent use of language thats why i enjoy the music genres i collect again its very rare... most industrial bands topics are of a political or environmental nature! the human animal and the crap we do to each other and the world or cyberpunk/technology* with EBM the topics can be very uplifting and a lot of this stuff can play on your own life experiences and human emotions! sorry im a bit on the defensive! but really! many people from many languages and countries play EU i have made many friends form germany and sweden awesome characters and awesome times!! so maybe some non-english tunes would not be such a bad thing????

  8. Kay Jones

    Kay Jones who?

I cant resist :) : if it's not english, americans cant get offended, and to offend the average european you need a bit more than that ;)

on a more serious note: you could just ask someone who knows the language, there seems to be about everything here on EP ^^

Thanks for the history lesson Ori, much appreciated, and as I said, I really like a lot of the music you presented here. I can certainly respect the passion you have about your music, and that it has such depth and meaning for you. Music has a personal and subjective aspect to it, and can relate to many things in our lives, even from an environmental, religious, or political perspective, like man against the machine, but I try to keep MSR neutral in this respect, just as a precautionary measure.

There are many ills in this world of ours, and I would be the first to stand on the highest mountaintop and get quite vocal about it, but managing a public radio station, I feel a responsibility toward the global diversity that inhabits our universe. If I allow MSR to be a platform through music to make strong or aggressive (maybe even violent) statements, then it does have the potential to offend. It's not just about foul language, but certain topic content and how it's presented that can offend and incite. Everyone's beliefs and understanding within various cultures is not the same, even though there is a camaraderie amongst world people toward many atrocities that have occurred based on environmental, religious, gender or political views.

At any rate, I guess that's why I take the following part of the EULA to heart ...

... but I also understand the variables that come into play that have different results for different people based on personal beliefs and experiences that are culture-based. Occupational hazard I suppose ... I teach college level psychology, and we have extensive discussions that relate to human diversity and how our personal beliefs and behaviors can affect others. We can stand together in brotherhood for a cause, but there is still at times that fine line that distinguishes the parameter of what could have the potential to offend and incite. It's not to suppress, oppress, or protect, it's to respect the importance of differences.

All that said ... it's because I don't understand different languages that I can't get the full flavor of the lyrics, and what specific message is being portrayed, so I'm unable to make any type of assessment whatsoever. It could be that it's all perfectly harmless, and my going on is much to do about nothing, but I make a personal choice to keep the MSR airwaves as neutral as possible, even though there will (I'm sure) be things that slip through that might raise an eyebrow now and then.

I consider you to be an honorable person Ori, and I really like your enthusiasm and energy, it's quite infectious, not to mention your dedication to bringing more diverse music into the mix. I know that music isn't all about English-speaking artists, but rather a richness steeped in history that plays to diverse audiences. I suppose I'm just hesitant to blindly trust, because there may be those who aren't so honorable in nature as you are Ori. Also, there's an unwritten rule that all broadcasting by DJ's to the Entropia Universe must be in English. There were incidents last year after the radio stations started up that caused issues, and people complained.

I'm sure your non-English tracks are perfectly innocent my dear, and I respect that, but unless I have a copy of the lyrics in English, like I've had for some of the songs played that are partially in Spanish (love songs), then I have no way of assessing content. People can chastise me for my views regarding this, but it's always been a rule for MSR. That's what I love about having choice ... individuals within our universe can choose what radio station they want to listen to that appeals to their personal preferences. I choose not to air something in a language I don't understand (no matter how innocent I'm told it is) out of respect for our cultural diversity, and the subjective nature of our personal beliefs.

I hope this doesn't prevent you or others from submitting favorite music tracks, because I certainly want to accommodate requests for personal listening pleasure. So far, I have been able to successfully give people what they want to listen to, but the tracks have all been in English, so presented no problems. I've had great feedback with regard to the diverse nature of the MSR jukebox, but I also appreciate that some have a more diverse taste in music than what's presented. Again, why there is a choice of radio stations and the freedom to make a choice to listen to one or another, or all of them based on entertainment value.

Now, part of my time this weekend will be to review music and get it uploaded to the MSR jukebox. If there is any way Ori that you can get me English lyrics to tracks that are not in English, then I will certainly give every respect to the value of content and add tracks that you would love to hear over the MSR airwaves.

Thank you for your understanding Ori, and anyone else who chooses to understand my perspective. I don't do this to piss people off, or to elicit a defensive posture, but definitely to be respectful and considerate of our global diversity, as well as respect the portion of the EULA presented above.

  10. Ok! (MS9) i guess after your last post i have a better understanding of how the system works (basically im just a little bit better informed now!) :)
i can see in your position and that the decisions you make would be hard* in relation to the content you can play versus the content you can't play or
would like to"" we have rules in society for many reasons though some do appear very illogical! :headscratch: but they have fuction and seem to keep the gogs
of the world truning. so what im saying is i respect your decision in this matter...... and anyway! i still have hundreds of bands/tunes form many languages and countries that do sing in english and span all the music genres that like! i may list/post some more in the near future will let you digest the stuff that i have put up already  also just a small note! the stuff i do list/post im really posting the band yes! i do like the tune the band performs though dont stop at that will you  most of a bands material is excellent!! .............cheers!

Thank you Ori, I appreciate your understand very much. It's not that I don't like the "musical" brilliance of the artists in your offerings, I absolutely do, I just choose to be more discerning perhaps in what I choose to air on MSR.

I am looking forward to listening to everything you offer, and I thank you for the contributions BIG time.

Thanks EwoK ... that's a good start ... reminded me of when I created a special playlist for the Aussie's at Deathifier's "Jump Start Australia" event. Deathifier announced the radio coverage in post #16, and Jod hopped right in there with quite a lengthy list in post #19, so I'll have to revisit what everyone added in that thread to pick out some great Aussie music once again.

I upgraded my hard drive and had an issue with my jukebox library, which was unfortunate, so I've had to rebuild it, and am constantly adding to it now. I had a blast at that event ... WAY fun hangin' out with the Aussies and others. We'll have to do something special like this on Arkadia when it arrives.
