For some times already efforts are being made to create the wiki first Portal. Portals can be seen as entry points to specific content/topics on the wiki. This first Portal shall address beginners. Enabling beginners a smooth start in game as well as a smooth integration in the community should be considered one of the most important tasks. The portal is currently under construction and actually far from ready to be showcased but check it out for a first impression: Portal:Beginners There are some ideas regarding its content: Random Tip: 1 line tip (partially implemented already) Random or selected feature: Beginners Mob (introducing 1 mob, where to find it, how to fight it, ...) Random or selected feature: Beginners Tool/Armor/Weapon (introducing 1 item, how to get it, how to use it, ...) Random or selected feature: Beginners Mission (introducing 1 item, how to get it, how to use it, ...) Random or selected feature: Beginners Guide (introducing 1 topic relevant to beginners eg mapping keys or tp running) Random or selected feature: A service/organization catering beginners eg ETA, CRT, ANF socs A random quiz question eg: "Which of the following weapons is suitable for beginners?" A list of current/future events suitable for beginners A beginners navigator leading to further guides, eg: Where are you at? - Account creation - Downloading - Installating - Avatar Creation - Calypso Gateway - ROCKtropia - ... looks nice Tass. well all is my guess :D What I would do is add a 3th row to it in the middle and make the 2 rows on the side a lot less wide and display the list of ideas you posted in the middle row. This would give it the same kinda look as the forum front page has, so the important bits in a big middle column and the less important bits on the sides. and it would be SO cool if people would get a forum achievement for answering, lets say, 25 questions right, wouldn't it :) Anyway, no that I can mysteriously upload pics again I'm ready to help you out a bit again. I have some stuff that is waiting to be done for a while, but I'm pretty sure I can make some pages for the beginners mobs and tools.
That's because only 6 Missions have been categorized "For Beginners" so far. Whole wiki is a construction yard ;) Yep, columns have to be adjusted. But instead of adding another one I would rather go for a 66%/33% setting. 3 colums can get really tiny on smaller displays. So he left and larger column could host the text + image feature and the right one rather the lists and such. Forum achievement for finishing the quiz, good idea but don't tell admin ;) Regarding the random/selected features, yes, there's really need of them. We just need to find a smart way to transclude them to or from the specific pages randomly or on selection. (Check out how the Random Tip works).
- 66/33 should be fine - I won't :D - Will have a look at the tips We could maybe make hidable tables and maybe find out how we could keep them hidden for somebody that had hidden them, this way people can choose what they wanna see and what not (like the side bars on the forum frontpage do now)
