Went to the NI site today and saw 2 links to the Next Island: Origins iphone and ipad app. Looks like it is launched and they did not even tell us :D http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/next-island-origins/id397762799?mt=8 if only I had one of those :(
Wooten. Omw to dl it right now. Report later maybe 19 Meg 99 cents. It may distract me from doing actual work for the rest of the afternoon.
Ok first impression... Immersive. I gotta get back to work but don't want to. In app music is really cool and draws you in. The story holds your attention. I get the impression that this is laying the backstory for the game and so far I'm really digging it. I'm only in a little bit but don't want to ruin anything for anyone so I'll hold details for a while. You play a character in the story and it's formatted as a choose your own, read some stuff, make a decision thing. I didn't make any notes but will try to do that some tonite for a further update.
Great! We need a review, we need screenshots, we need the story, we need everything! (Tass has no iThing)
mmmm, I was thinking of buying a new Ipod Touch, so maybe this is the thing that gets me to actually do that :)
I'm contacting David Post to see if there's something we can get to promote this at EP. I think we should do a front page story on this ASAP. I'll get back to you guys with the verdict. In the meantime ... keep the details to yourself Nobatti until further notice Hon, because your help could actually be needed in this. Thanks. Oh, and ... great find RAZER ... that's why you're a rockin' E-Team member (among other things of course). ;)
Some more. It appears to be an interactive text adventure, where you choose how you will enter the storyline. It is combined with some minor games, one of which you can see below. It's a code-cracking game, where you have to follow instructions to figure out "secret codes".
I made contact with David Post, and now just waiting on a response. We've been communicating back and forth today on another matter, so hopefully he'll respond soon. :)
David Post got back to me and he's very interested in discussing this so that I can do a front page article. When I get the information I need I'll work on it and get it up when I can.
Very nice and fast work :) Could you ask him about the possibility of a way to play this game on windows or some other platform for those of us with out Ithingies? narfi
from what I understand Narfi it is not possible to play any iphone apps on you PC. There is a developers SDK for MACOS that has a testing thingy, but I'm not sure if you can play already compiled app on that. So I guess we have to buy a ithingy after all :D
Next Island: Origins was actually developed specifically for the iPhone/iPad backstory experience leading up to the release of the planet going online. It's all part of their mass marketing blitz, and as far as I know, won't be available to play on regular PC, unless they decide to go with an additional program. David is very interested in us promoting Next Island: Origins, so now I am in contact with his marketing/PR guy Erik ... one of his marketing staff I also did an interview with for the launch issue of the magazine. Erik is the one working with this application, and besides ... David said he's wrestling with alligators, so he has placed me in Erik's capable hands to continue on with this mission. I'll be back when I have anything to report, and whether I'm going to be able to pull together a front page article for everyone. I love it when developers are available and approachable to work with for their benefit, as well as building a relationship with the Entropian community.
Good news ... Erik is getting me photos and content overnight so that I can pull together a front page story. Now this is how it's all supposed to work ... we are an independent forum working FOR the benefit of planet partners, not against them, and some just get that. Right now ... David Post (and company) and Ed Robles (Cyrene) are my universe heroes ... they get the concept of "community" ... and they are very much looking forward to working with us going forward. Don't forget that the Next Island beta launch will be on Dec 7th or 8th, and we (all Entropians) will have first access to experience Next Island before anyone else. They aren't opening it up to the media until Jan 5th at CES, and then will go live about the 3rd week in Jan I think, but we get to continue playing all that time without having to stop. It's going to give the current player base an advantage, and I for one can't wait.
