Posted in EF and FPC so thought I would post here as well. Simple question. FPC bought all of our posts and stuff from EF. Therefore they must have paid for it from our deposited peds, as this is their only source of income. Unless they had some outside input, correct me if I am wrong. So, how many of our collective peds went to Neomaven to buy our posts? We were all part of paying for it. Simple transparency. How many no loots did we pay?
Very interesting question. I, for one, would like to see an answer...but I'm also resigned to the fact that we probably won't get one. There's a whole lot about that little episode that really bugs me.
I agree with you my dear, but ... I have it on good authority that when we learn who purchased the rights to Calypso that there is going to be a whole lot more controversy ... not sure what that means (yet), but interesting that this statement was made.
I also posted this at PCF ... I have too many thoughts about this, and none are good ... but two things in particular bother me: One ... everything I've ever written, including what's in my personal storytelling sub-forum was meant for an all universe experience, and ... regardless of whether the majority may be Calypso-related or not, the evolution of our universe would have seen other stories and articles related to other planets. My work was started on an all universe forum in early 2005, and was not meant for just one planet partner to purchase in a business transaction. Many things in general could have applied and had meaning to other planets - like "Pay It Forward - The Noob Connection" (which inspired others to help new players, because it showcased those already doing an excellent job of it) - all of the Who's Who player profiles that share more than just in game experiences, and are meant for an all universe experience, which I'm sure other planet partners and their players would appreciate as well in getting to know their expanded universe, and how it all started - it's all historical stuff from a player's perspective. Being housed on an independent all universe forum gives other planet inhabitants the option of seeing work that relates to multiple planets, which was my goal ... but that was taken away. I've done a lot of writing for over 5-1/2 years, and I am very annoyed that there was no consideration whatsoever given to what myself or others felt about their personal and private content. I do not appreciate that one planet partners purchased my work for their official forum when it was meant to be enjoyed universally. Two ... I also don't like the fact that along with the database content, this business transaction included the purchase of the largest "collective" community membership that was meant to be an all universe environment that shared in everything Entropia - Calypso and otherwise. All of the content in the database was not Calypso-related. There was a lot of basic and technical information that can apply across the universe, and to other planets. Here's where it gets sticky ... old EF database is sold to FPC, along with the largest collective community EF owner recreates EF as an all universe forum EF owner is also contracted (paid) by FPC to host, maintain, and administrate PCF threads advertising that EF is back are allowed to exist at PCF threads even linking back to EP are chastised I was told in private by a moderator that 711 will most likely make an announcement at PCF himself you could say (to some degree) that EF and EP are competitors being all universe forums My questions are: do we have a conflict of interest? - (what do you think?) do we have an ethical issue? - EF owner/contracted (paid) individual/player - (what do you think?) is there special treatment for one over the other? Thing is ... I was also told that it's not EF staff who is advertising EF, but members - how is that different? And again as mentioned above - it was said that 711 will probably make his own announcement at PCF. That to me smacks unfair. That's it for now, unless something else tickles my fancy, but suffice it to say, I am not happy about this whatsoever. Oh ... I doubt that we will ever learn what price was paid when we had the rug pulled out from under us with no consideration whatsoever - I don't give a damn what the ToS said - there's such a thing as decency and respect for those who for almost 6 years (come January) worked hard and volunteered their time to build the old EF database with wonderful and useful things because they wanted to help their fellow Entropians. I can't even think about this any more.
Safara, I saw your post, and the suggestion to perhaps obtain a database extract of your sub forum. I can see if that is at all possible (it should, the problem is more in the IDs stringing together users, posts, threads, etc), but even if it would technically be possible then there still is the matter of whether FPC will actually allow it. In any case, if you do manage to get that extract, we'd be more than happy to host your content here.
The transfer was reason enough for me to close down my forum account and move to here. I just dont feel comfortable to remain there, The content of that forum was entirly built with the efforts from al the players, years of accumulated contents, reflecting the very soul of players in Entropia Universe.... FPC just bought it all with the money taken from the community. It is my opnion that too much have been taken from us and none has been given back. enough
The only reason i maintain an account there is because SFE has its Shop Thread and the main target (currently) of our business is Calypso based. However, i've cut back on my postings there to an absolute minimum and spend most of my time here or in Arkadia Forum (for obvious reasons). To say i'm annoyed, would be a gross understatement.
I won't be posting in the other thread at PCF again Spike, so let me apologize to you here for getting a bit off-topic there with JC ... didn't mean to cause a mess ... just had some strong feelings about it all. Cheers!
No worries MS9 :) A lot of strong feelings about a lot of things at the moment. I have taken mine to PM on FPC to see what may be. All good :)
