In today's chat with the Planect Cyrene Development Team Ed and Kris gave the community the chance to voice their opinion about specific topics relevant for development of Cyrene. Those who missed this opportunity to let the developers of a planet know how you want the planet to be can find a transcipt of the chat here or on the wiki and can comment on the questions below. The 5 basic questions asked in the chat: "First Question for tonight comes from the sandbox team. They would like to know, now that there are vehicles in game, would you like to see the land areas larger or are they still viable." "Our second question tonight comes from the Game Development team. They are wondering if the players feel there are enough or too many skills in the current game." "The third question tonight comes from the Writing staff. They are wondering if players would be interested in missions whose only incentive would be storyline as the incentive." "Our fourth question tonight comes from the marketing team. How important is the cross platform marketing of the game? Do you feel more players would be drawn by Books, cross platform games, graphic novels, and other avenues that might have a low cost or " "Our fifth question for tonight comes from our Team leads and Production Manager. What time frame do you feel major version upgrades should take place? Currently Cyrene is a world that will change as time goes on and history will be written. That means" ... "A version update in this case would mean an end to a certain era in Cyrene with a new one starting up. Think Expansions." Further questions asked earlier on Planet Cyrene's Facebook page: "Solo or group. I am interested in hearing what our current group of fans are into. Do you prefer a solo style or group activities within your gaming." "PVP or Missions/Quests?. Which one is most important to your style of gaming and why? "Weapons of choice. What type of combat is your cup to Tea? Pistols at dawn? Blades for breakfast? Lasers at lunch? Do you like silent knife in the back, or rapid fire, burst, big kaboomers? I would love to hear some points of view." "Society question. Do you actively participate in a Society? How many have you been in and how long? Are society based activities important to you?" Further questions asked earlier in Planet Cyrene's tweets: Question: As EU grows larger/more players join, would you be interested in a real world event such as Blizzcon/SOE FanFaire and if so where? Question: What Game (Especially MMO or online related) blogs/websites do you mostly use as a source of news? Do you participate on them? Question: How many social networks do you use and are active on? Would you like to see more integration in game or for smart phone/devices?
I didn't come in for the chat, but had one question only really, maybe Ed or someone will notice it if I put it here. I know the Cyrene team is well aware, and from reading the transcript see it mentioned, that the focus has to be on expanding the player base, bringing in new faces much more than looking to hook the existing ones. What I'm wondering about is the WoW factor if you will. The majority (if not all?) of the dev team seem to be WoW players, so I couldn't help but wonder if that means those are the gamers (that genre) they will be targetting mostly, and how much that personal gaming experience/preference will/may affect the game called Planet Cyrene? Best of luck to them, will keep watching the developments.
@Lee you should read the chat transcript. Ed mentioned near the end about expanding playerbase (generally from the chat we also got to know how different Cyrene will be e.g. updates will be new eras for the planet) ...
Hi Ace, yeah I did read it, the 'eras' sounded a bit like the genre of game I was talking about. Just wondering how much like WoW it is going to be really, only with ce2 models and MA systems.
Sorry Lee I misread your first post. I haven't played wow but I get the impression Cyrene will be heavily influenced by wow. Just how different and similar, only time will tell once we are in it but thats a very good question. I would assume they've thought about that and are positioning cyrene somewhere in between wow and calypso type gameplay. The eras also reminded me of Eve online. I played eve for a bit and I think i only played within one era if I'd played long enough probably would have seen more stages/eras developing...
I missed the chat too. But I had a suggestion/question. Is it possible to implement some sort of a dome/stadium/wathever where we can do a (free) shooter game, something in the style of quake, counter strike,... This would be nice for new players to have free fun. Of course this would be weapons exclusive to this game. There would be no skillgains, etc.
you mean like a virtual virtual-reality where the avatar "plugs" himself into a computer? sounds cool :D
Yeah something like that, or just the avatar itself :3 Just to have some free stuff to do aswell, which costs nothing but some coding for MA.
