Years and years ago, after a particular VU, SnableSnots suddenly dropped improved 2870s. Several dropped within minutes, and the servers were quickly taken down to address the glitch. More recently, when Next Island launched its public Beta, quite a controversy erupted when Calypsonian Colonists discovered that Blood Moss, a resource that is only available in lootable PVP on Calypso, could easily (and safely) be found on Next Island. The same thing is now happening again after the recent VU 2011.1.1, apparently leading to a massive drop of formerly rare items like the ES500 scanner dropping off of ROCKTropia-based Street Thugs, as well as FAP-90s (apparently being looted from NI mobs like Fire Drake and Ice Drake (based on matching the name of sellers in auction to their most recent EntropiaTracker stats)), and the rare ore Pyrite dropping off of Zombies. Other items that dropped were ES200, ES300 and ES400 scanners, and a whole lot of armour that was exclusive to Calypso prior to this update (Hunter, Paladin, Pixie, Gnome, and Shogun, to be exact). The drop of the scanners was adjusted as sudden as it came, which adds fuel to the fire that this was a bug. Or was it? (See below). Another discovery that was made was a new Limited gun, the JUELZ Mic-Killa SG-ULTRA, which boosts impressive stats: As the screenshots show, it has an SIB level of 3 (!), an incredible range of 130 meters, and with 74 shots a minute with a damage between 45.0 and 90.0 (which gives it a DPS of 83), this bad boy will undoubtedly be carried by anyone who means serious business. Initial testing shows a Damage/PEC of 9.786 (Source: Entropedia), which would make this gun more efficient than an Improved Justifier MK2, or a Modified Mercenary. Undoubtedly, this is a bug, but one that led to quite a bit of panic within the uber-item owning community. The gun was looted by "Paavo PP Pesusieni" from society "The Great Pretenders", and in a private chat, he was willing to reveal it dropped from a mob called Zombie ROCK God, which seemed to only spawn for a brief moment. Once they killed all of them they found, none respawned. He described the mob as a high HP, low damage mob, which most likely means plenty others will be trying their luck on them. Initially, it was assumed all of today's anomalies was another slipup, mainly due to the drop of the scanners stopping from one minute to another, but never one to pass an opportunity to advertise, the recent ROCKTropia newsletter that was sent out seems to indicate that all of this was very much anticipated by NEVERDIE himself. Meanwhile there is speculation in the community that Bank NEVERDIE, either within minutes before or after the VU arriving, dropped the collateral price for the ES500 to 0. Stay tuned for the whole discussion about insider knowledge to erupt once again. EntropiaPlanets contacted David Simmonds at MindArk to comment on these strange happenings, but we were told that the balancing team is the ones to talk to. We will send a mail to them, and update the thread in case we receive an answer from them.
I have to say that I am not really bothered by these drops per se, they have changed dynamics in the past too and all kinds of things happened to the prices. (Vigi, ghost, ek2600, of-105, various clothes, etc' are all good examples). The stats on the gun are pretty ridiculous, but I am guessing it will be very rare and expensive and will not have a big impact on other weapons. I think the main reason for concern here is that they are trying to lure Calypsians to other planets with these items instead of advertising for new players. The RT concept has completely failed with the majority of existing players, maybe there is a real target audience for this nonsense planet... but they have done nothing to bring them in so far. Essentially what is happening now is that devoted Calypsians are venturing to other planets for nice items and resources with the ultimate goal of selling them and enjoying them on Calypso. This is bad for Calypso and in the long run it will be counter-productive for the leaching planets who fail to build their own fans and playerbase.
i cannot believe the if the JUELZ weapon can be anything other than a bug/fuckup. if it is not removed in the next VU, and i mean actually remove the weapon or fix it to proper stats, i would have to say MA is and EU is finished. there can be no trust left in MA and balancing while this weapon exists, completely out of scope with everything else. other drops are just cockups and misguided views of balancing. the Fap90 (i'm an owner) had its price trashed last year when they started dropping from every other Eomon global. frankly it was already out-eco'd by SIB ball faps, so i think only rarity kept its price up. though i like the speed and still use it today. MA have shown a lack of regard to long term balancing ever since their botched attempts to rebalance with L, especially in Armour where no sane person should buy Tiger or below since L equivilents can be brought for near TT prices. yet Angel and Salamander oddly got missed, not complaining on the former, just think its odd. then there are other L items that after cost of materials are considered would never be used, so why bother with them? then theres the massive FA skill requirements for ball faps, rendering everything over a UR175 practically unusable without 200k ped of skills. do have to wonder at many of the balancing decisions.
I think this is how ND is marketing his planet. But its more likely to attract Calypsians - exactly what he wasn't supposed to do. That uber weapon is (L) so I reckon it dropping is no fuck up/bug, and reckon more will be dropping periodically in future. As for the scanner, its odd that more have started to drop on another planet, but then you all know that already.
Intentional or not, the scanners and fap drops don't really mean much to me. There is always hype on the first day of events and yesterdays vu on Rocktropia was no different. (I suspect that it could have been the same on NI yesterday if any ubers had gone to try, since the armor drops were happening on both planets) I am sure there weren't enough looted in one day to drastically affect the market for more than a month or two. I wasn't able to play much because of work, and the ubers were camping the good stuff. (I still don't know where the infamous street kings are/were :/) The good side of the coin is that low level armor sets that people could never use because mobs that drop certain parts don't exist any more or don't exist in the right maturities etc... The Bad: I bought an es400 of a hunter before I realized how much the market would drop. I can probably recover what I spent, but it will tie up a bunch of my trading ped for a month+ The Good: I might be able to get a Hunter set now, something I always thought would be cool but could never justify the cost. The Best: I got a 210ped ESI because I decided not to wonder all over the map looking for the infamous street kings. I am sure that the uber items have been removed from the pool already, and that in time the armor drops will stabilize. Really I think it was a fairly normal opening day hype event. The biggest Issue I have with it wasn't even mentioned here, and that is that on both Rocktropia and Next Island new "beginner" blueprints were released as mission rewards. (and in crafting loot on Rocktropia) but both of these new prints have an ingredient that does not exist and should be in common loot for everyone. (Rocktropia Record for the Creative Juice bp, and Drake Heart for the TimeTravel Crystal bp) The times I was on yesterday were fairly entertaining watching all the ubers tp in and get pissed off that they had to do beginner missions before they could go hunt. Noobs had to show them how to do the simple things, and even I had to poke fun at one UU member who was getting riled up. (evidently the tp system doesn't work without a cell phone awarded by doing the missions) narfi ps. forgot to mention JUELZ, I doubt they will imbalance the game anymore than the anti-material rifles have.
I think what ticks people off about the scanner drops most is that they used to be crafted, but BPs for them were removed from the game ages ago. The rarity and (un)availability therefore made their prices really soar. By having them rain in the loot again, overnight they went from 5k+ to 1k or so? I'm fairly confident this was not supposed to happen, but that the additional hype created by it is not something any owner of ROCKTropia will be grieving over. As for the other stuff like the armour, that's just odd, considering there's armour parts that hardly ever dropped on Calypso, and now they drop en masse on other planets. It all seems extremely weird, also for the reasons stated by Dusk; Planet partners are supposed to bring in their own clientbase, but today's proceedings led to the two new planets basically canibalizing Calypso. As for the gun, I asked whether Paavo tested the decay, but he said he did not. Therefore, the eco on it that is shown on Entropedia might just be wrong. Nevertheless, it's still a great gun :)
werent a204s crafted? and they were released in hunting loot recently on Calypso. Seems like the same thing to me. I agree that balancing is important, but it seems to me there is a big uproar over what appears to have been a 1 day hype event. narfi
I`ll tell you it would be nice if a message was taken from all these types of things. That these sought after items can and will drop and in turn people should`nt be valuing and pricing them into the stratosphere. That being so greedy is a risk. After all the high cost and barriers to progress in gear is one of the reasons more people don`t play EU and a lot of people have left. Make it more attainable and give people some glimmer of hope and they may just be able to turn the tide of low participation and the revolving door of players old and new. We can hope.
yep, Entropedia: Weapon Attachment: Omegaton A204, SGA Edition plenty of other stuff then too, how quickly we forget :) Interestingly enough both the current situation and my 1(of many possible) example both dropped from a mob Neverdie owned :P narfi
if it is for hype, for marketing, that scarcly makes it better. i rather think it makes things worse. Are we to see a arms race of higher and higher spec'd rare items? it doesnt help NI much anyway, if they only attract in Calypso players they firstly dont make much revenue (the original planet retains lions share) and secondly dont fulfill the main purpose to draw in new players to the EU platform. Why would MA sanction this? Why would SEE accept it? unless of course they cant even organise properly or keep to simple strategy. the business model is flaky enough, the platform model so far has failed to increase player base much (selling CP, CND did far more), the player base grow tired of lack of road map and even when they offer to give Q&A they cant even respond in the time frame they gave.
I still believe t5hs is Minarks fault. they did checked the loot filters right. into the theory ND knew this I am doubting. Not because of the bank but because rj rob and amber knighlty confirmed a NDS employee said that this was planned. Now if this is true then I have a growing concern that partner can enter each other loot pools. Now I said before MA needs to do check and no coding. This proofs it again. Proably the lootsystem is a new one and not stable yet. I think the balance team is having one hell of a day.
Just because an NDS employee states something does not make it a fact. I have a very hard time imaginging that someone at MindArk figured it would be a splendid idea to have numerous high-level high-value items drop within a few hours. If that's the case, they just undermined their own RCE concept.
Another thing that just hit me. If this is indeed a planned thing, meant as a marketing stunt, then what will it really solve? Sure, it will get some people up there in the short term, looking for the new drops. As soon as they realize the drops ceased, though, they'll leave again. The end result will be a handful of pocket change, and people even MORE reluctant to go up there. Trying to build a customer base by promising handouts gets you one type of customer, and it never is a loyal one because as soon as another party offers something even better, they'll be gone again.
Especially with the newsletter from ND I think it's quite obvious that that IS the case. The question is just WHY?!? something I keep asking myself more and more about MA's actions and I can't find an answer.
Well, now the proverbial doodoo really hit the rotational device. Yesterday, someone called DAManager was the one to go public with the statement that these scanners were dropping on RT: Followed today by: Having never heard of Digital Abduction before, I googled it, and ended up on this: Rocktropia A FUTURISTIC VIRTUAL REALITY WITH STATE OF THE ART GRAPHICS AND HUNDREDS OF REALTIME STRATEGY DECISIONS. Perhaps most telling, however, is this quote on their website: (emphasis mine). ... I'm not really sure what they think they are doing, but I'm afraid the damage has already been done. This is not going to end well, regardless of what the press release will state.
becoming more suspicious by the minute - they all privacy'd up. registered 05-20-10, I wonder is that date significant in any way? Anyhow, here's the linkage. Whois Lookup | Domain Availability - Registration Information Can I be the first to speculate that we know who DAManager might be.......
