If it doesn't make enough cash I'm sure they will find another half arsed idea to make more money out of the players. So what if banks are shut? They got paid...
lootable PVP is Dumbsville, Sweden. i can only think the idea behind this is to "encourage" the use of motherships or hangar based, well armed pilots. otherwise, with any tom, dick and ari using a Vtol, the mothership and hangar would be fairly pointless. so... i reckon it might not be such a bad idea, just we're being self centred about it. its bad for "me", but solved by the cost of passage on a mothership.
Exactly. Id love to travel the universe for free, Risk Free. But people have and will continue to make investments and need to be rewarded for that. For the average joe traveling on a well crewed mothership should be fairly painless. narfi
What is this "Planet Calypso" you keep refering to? I know only of planet Arkadia in the Entropia Universe. ;)
I think there should be safe trade routes created. Maybe that`s something the players can establish on their own. But for some reason I see MA changing it in the future. Will I travel? I would be open to wokring abourd a mothership or other in need of crew. I`m sure at some point I`ll want to visit other planets so eventually yes. But I`ll let others feel it out, go into space for a look around first, then decide how I`ll proceed. There is certainly a lot to be worked out first. For now I`ll be hanging on Rocktropia staying close to and supporting the music as always!
Appart from transfering everything I have over to Arkadia last night before space is full of jerks (not entirely without problems, I had to outwait a pirate that followed me from docking stasion to edge of save zone before I could make a move on) I will not be using it to travel between planets anymore. Guess Arkadia is now my permanent home
Right now, there are some who are saying that space travel is safe, and that the area is so vast that no one will find you when you travel. However, while it may seem that way now, I think with a lot more people traversing the universe, it's going to be a different story. I think it's way too soon to determine just how safe space travel from one planet to another will be. The space system is not that much over 24 hours old, and people are still in the midst of figuring everything out. Also, I'm sure that some are waiting for prices to go down before they make an investment in spacecraft or thrusters to test out space, so the skies aren't inundated with travelers yet, but ... I've already read of incidents that have occurred where people were followed from their starting point (safe zone?) into open space and shot at, so there's no doubt in my mind that those who are hardcore PK'ers will be on the prowl for sure, and it's only a matter of time before more threads will be popping up. The PK'ers are wise enough to employ strategy to find their victims, and I would not underestimate them one bit. As far as traveling to other planets myself - I doubt that I will be making a journey anywhere until Cyrene is launched, because I have a second date with Senator Calvin Neff, and Zorra Winters. In the meantime, I'm snug as a bug in a rug on Arkadia and I like where I'm at. :)
Kinda where i'm at atm, on Arcadia and generally happy here, can't see myself leaving anytime soon but Cyrene does look like something that will interest me. PvP in space also although i don't like it I can live with it, welding wires tho Grrr lol but already said my piece on that subject :).
They changed it on UL tiering after a few months of people complaining of lost items and a decline in those willing to risk it. The most dangerous areas are those around the space stations. In deep space I've only heard of people flying past and saying Hi. The space stations are an obvious choke point and with no way to safely get away from them people can be easily followed out by a camping pk'er. My guess is that the bigger ships warp drive (when they get it) will allow them to escape, so far the only reason to use them. As I've seen reports that they're slower than vtols, sitting ducks for pk'ers especially on the default SI. 10-15 armed vtols in convoy would be a much harder target. We'll only find out when we see a mothership in action with a full crew.
Quoted myself from PCF on 6-10 before space was introduced. I don't think it will ever be profitable to haul people through space again. Kind of funny that the motherships can carry so many people - get 50 people on the ship and the lag kills the server and you all end up stranded at a revive somewhere. With lootable PVP you won't find much interplanetary trading going on. People will just not use the BP's that require it. The markups will be too high on the items the BP's produce. The PP's will just have to make sure there is something to substitute using only their unique materials. The motherships on auction dropped from 90k to 50k with just 4 sales. Sounds like when the shill bidder stopped bidding the price went way down. Space will be as occupied as PVP 4 if they don't change it. How are the landgrabs working out for you MA? Not sure why they would add a huge feature to a tiny niche game and cater to an even tinier niche of the overall MMO population? If they think they are going to get players from EVE they are nuts, I watched a video of 2 ships fighting posted by Johan on PCF and it looked like Elite with somewhat better graphics.
You make some very valid points Dab, and it's going to be interesting to watch this whole space thing play out, and just how many people are willing to risk real money transporting goods. I think it's going to be just a matter of time before we see a different kind of posting than what we're seeing now - meaning, that the more active space becomes, the more issues it's going to present. Right now, it's not so crowded by any means, and no matter how vast space is, you're absolutely going to have PK'ers sitting in wait - whether individually or in groups, and when people continue to lose real money in an attempt to get resources they need, then I'm sure we'll see some interesting posting at the forums.
This was supposed to be a game with a R.C.E. The accent on REAL CASH. How the hell has a company come up with the idea of forcing its clients to risk everything they invested in the game every time they want to move within the game??? How about forcing the MA owners and shareholders to invest everything they own in the Somalian stock market before they get their paycheck... it's the same bloody thing....
Hi there, i know it´s my first post and i have to rant a little :D. 100% lootable space is pure BS. I was on the space station and i´ve had a look around in space. To make it short...it´s ridiculous. Planets are way too close togehter. Sleipnir goes with 63km/h. Mothership with around 50km/h? Quadwing something around 100km/h? Well done MA. Fail. Just fail. As always :D. They have a good idea and ruin it. Maybe they should hire some competent ppl. I dont know and i dont care, tbh. If you wanna see space...play Eve. Or Freelancer. And if you wanna shoot trox and trax...play EU. They should stick to what they really can handle. And space it´s not something they can :cow:. Arris
It funny how some people are so critical after just 5 days, come on let's wait and see how things settles in. It's just a begining.
has a company done that? that would be a silly idea for a game. MA has provided a new area of game you can chose to enter or not, with the risk of those stackables you chose to take with you. meanwhile, a genuine economic activity has been created, trading between planets with real risks and reward. like it, dislike it, lets not be melodramtic about it.
I returned to Calypso from Next Island with no problem, but I don't plan on going back for a long time. I am not a fan of space travel as it is now. What I would like to see MA do is provide limited teleporters to let us travel between planets. The tp would be limited in that they will not transport any vehicles, any living materials (Lumis Leach, Caroot, pets, etc), and only a limited amount of weight. If we could determine the weight of an avatar I would set limit to two times that weight, if not maybe 250 kg. They could charge a small fee (40 PED was way too much) but they really should be free, free transport would benefit everyone. We don't want to hurt the ship owners so reduce their ship decay and fuel use to make up for lack of paying passengers. Invent shipping containers, let players rent/buy a container and pay a pilot to fly it to a particular planet where it would become part of players inventory upon its arrival. Anything could be shipped in the containers, vehicles, pets, other players, etc.
As a 5 year veteran of Eve Online I finally gave in and bought a Quad Wing. I killed a few ships and died a few times but ultimately the huge "investment" (added quotes for sarcastic effect) far far exceeds the "fun" (and again) of combat and convenience of interplanetary travel. Any player coming over from Eve Online for the space combat would at the cost of play here and laugh til piss ran down their leg.
In theory yes, in practice I've not planet-hopped since before 'space' got rid of TPing. Just the cost of getting to another planet is more than it was, and that's without the 100% PvP problem.
