Wish I would have joined Entropia earlier/requirement for new blood

Discussion in 'General Entropia Universe Discussion' started by Blood Rebel Templar, Sep 17, 2011.

  1. First off I have only been in game 7 days. I dont know if this has been mentioned, if it has please disregard. I wish I knew/joined this great program long ago when it was originally started up, but either I was not looking hard enough to find it among the vast ammounts of MMO`s out there, or I was just unlucky. That being said, I came across this awsome game by accident and because of the requirement of new blood(PED and social) I wonder if there is a good way to advertise this program to aqire new ppl. I can only pass my praise by word of mouth, but I am wondering if there are any other methods that would improve it. Humbling IMO. (disregard spelling pls)

Spend atleast few months in game before praising to anyone, especially to real life friends.

  3. Welcome to the Entropia Universe. Word of mouth is excellent advertising -- if you are happy, you might suggest that your real life friends give it a try.

Some of us, who has been playing for 6-7 years, wish we played the game from the very beginning haha...

OH how skilled we would be ... OH how rich we would be ... OH how many times we would have quit and come back again :D

Again, welcome - I actually believe that new people who just started playing this 'game' (which is NOT a game, "they" say) are much more positive towards it than us old grumpy players! We know too much, have seen too much, have tried too much it's not even fun anymore.

When that is said, I have to admit that I had a really really great time on TheThing planet the last two days. Going to space was also really cool. And for the first time in a long time I had the 'this is awesome' kind of feeling.

    Nothing lasts forever though ;)

Go to places like mmorpg.com or other generic mmo gaming forums and write a review of your experiences.
    http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/forum/614/General-Discussion.html

Forums like that tend to have a bad openion of entropia because of how they viewed it in the past, but alot has changed and the game deserves new reviews from new players such as yourself.

It doesn't need to be anything fancy, just a few paragraphs about your gaming experience before joining, what you were looking for, and how it met or failed to meet those expectations.

A bit of discussion from your post can only help in bringing the knowledge of its existance to other gamers.

  6. I understand what you mean Krrk. I am still in the "honeymoon" stage of this virtual simulation or whatver the veterans may call it. I have only learned and experienced .0000001% of the social/economic/strategic and tactical realtime aspects of this entity called Entropia. To explain my background would be to say I was once a PONG Master, so I have seen games since Tic Tac Toe on a TRS(Trash) 80. This by no means says i know anything about Entropia, but I do appreciate the mechanics that run this virtual world(s). I also like those who help new people (never liked the term noobie even though we all are one at one time).

Enough about me, the point of this thread is to ask how Entropia is advertised, not a slight against MindArk advertising method, as I do not know how it is formally advertised. As stated I tripped over Entropia after downloading a crap ton of MMO`s that were top of the top 100. I was disapppinred at most of them and slightly amused by a rest. My main point is that maybe other methods of advertising would bring more new blood(social and economic) to Entropia.

Again, if I have overstated my underexperienced humble opion then please disregard this thread, I only seek to help Entropia grow.

  7. Unfortunately - there is little to no advertising and minimal public relations. MindArk officials have said they rely on the planet partners (the developers of the different planets) to promote their planets and bring in new players. Several years ago MindArk had a presence at a handful of game cons. Planet Arkadia had a booth at a con in Singapore about the time it went online. I would expect more advertising and promotion from Arkadia when treasure hunting is made available. Next Island has the potential to promote the planet in the United States -- one of the owners, Katlean DeMonchey, is a media and trends reporter and has done some TV work. Next Island, while a beautiful planet, needs a lot of work before it can attract a viable player base.

The big news this week is the opening of "The Thing"-- an area tied to Rocktropia and developed by Neverdie. With the potential to bring in new players when the movie is released, and the apparent low cost to play, this could be an excellent development for the Entropia Universe. Stay tuned.

As Narfi has said, your evaluative posts on gaming web sites can help to spread the word.

And one more thing about the Entropia Universe, you will find that the players here tend to be a bit more mature than players in many of the popular games. Many of us used cassette tape drives and were delighted to upgrade to 8" floppies.

    Welcome and have fun.

  8. TY for the info Great Dane. Quite informative and slightly sad about the advertising. New projects and planet improvement/events can only help bring in new people, imo.

Word of mouth also helps and if you do have RL friends that enjoy this type of program, it never hurts to suggest the game to them and show them the difference between Entropia and Runes of Magic. Let them decide if they like it.

Btw iI did put a thread in the LFG(looking for game) thread at
    morpg.com

  9. Good Sir Knight,

As others have said, MindArk has placed little emphasis on advertising in the consumer space, as their focus seems to have been on gaining planet partners who would advertise their game.

As others have indicated, word of mouth is indeed a good thing. Forums focused on MMOs in general rather than specific games may be a place to help spread the word, but as others have also stated, that can be a hard row to hoe due to naysayers and those that would promote *their* favorite game. IMO, those that fling the most poo in those venues simply don't understand that the path to uber is long when real money is involved, or thought they were going to reap untold riches off a free program.

I too have posted in the Entropia section of mmorpg.com. Unfortunately, on that site many entropia haters and trolls generally yell down any attempts to promote this great universe and the planets withing it. Some of the things they state are simply prepostorous, but they will simply go off on another rant when confronted with facts or logic.

Welcome to the new crusade, BRT. May the lands of Claypso be protected from the metal menace!

  12. @ AlphaGeek, ty for the information, I just looked at my review on mmorg.com and trolls were hitting it hard, then Narfi retorted with a detailed explation of how Entropia is more geared for matured players and other detailed remarks about the eco and RPG elements.

@ Narfi, excellent statement to beat the trolls back for a moment (they will return from under their bridges for more one lined uneducated remarks as normal)

A new person question, are the planets controled/maintained or administrated by different agencies? Please explain.

    NotAdmin Administrator

    Yes, they are.

The overall "Entropia Universe" platform is admistrated and maintained by Swedish-based MindArk.

Planet Calypso was sold off to an external provider (SEE Virtual Worlds), but something happened and MindArk pretty much reposessed the planet. So Planet Calypso currently is run by MindArk.

ROCKtropia / The THING is developed and maintained by NEVERDIE Studios, though the planet is owned by a body called Virtual Music Worlds LLC. I have been unable to find any relevant information about this corporation, though.

Next Island is run by Next Island Inc.

Arkadia is run by Arkadia Studios, of whom David Dobson and Cyrun Chen regularly visit EntropiaPlanets.

Upcoming Planet Cyrene is owned by Creative Kingdom Inc (aka CKI), and developed by Digital Scryers. The development team is run by Ed Robles 3rd, and him and his team are frequent visitors and contributors on EntorpiaPlanets as well.

The upcoming Arabian planet will be developed by a Jordanian company called Beladcom.

Lastly, the latest planet partner is Pyxel Arts, who will own a space "planet" called Theryon Wars. Theryon Wars will be developed by Pyxel Arts' daughter company Spaniard Blend.

From what we know, MindArk basically controls everything that will be made into actual game content. Planet Partners build 3D models, come up with stats for the MOBs, develop items, blueprints, content and the landscape of the planet, using the tools provided by MindArk. MindArk will review whatever is submitted, and then either add or deny objects.

This ensures that the balance that exists within the universe will be maintained, and that planet partners cannot simply add bigger and more powerful items that would destroy the value of existing items already in the universe.

Apart from designing the planets, the partners are also responsibe for marketing of their planet and pulling in fresh blood. The revenue made from decay in items used by these new colonists will be split 50/50 between MindArk and the PP as long as the decay takes place on their own planet, and using a different, unknown, calculation when a colonist originated on one planet and then moved onto a different planet, meaning that marketing efforts will still be rewarded, even if colonists switch.

Each planet is basically a franchise game within the universe, and each main planet(with its sub-planets) is developed by separate development studios by the owner of that 'franchise'
I think it helps to add to the variaty of options that each is developed by different people with different goals and aim for themes and gameplay.

  15. Wow, amazing PP system information. I did not know it was this complex. The whole PP balancing system must be a very complicated job, as player equalization must be maintained over serveral PP`s (different "franchises"). I have not experienced the varity of the different planets as I am now only 8 days old, but I look forward to new experiences over and above the ones I will have in Arkadia, for example I found a mob of Ferans (young to old) that were not shown on Entropedia lists and maps(PM me if you want the coords but drops are meager). That is the excitment of open ended play. IMO quest based linear play is outdated and stale. Entropia has, imo, PRINT SCREEN 2011-09-17 17-24-42.jpg great varity which I hope to explore for a long time.

Blood, may I recommend you to have a look at our on-line magazines in the section on the forum, which you can also find here: www.entropiatimes.com

The magazines contain interviews with the different planet partners + a planet map in the back which might give you a view over the planets and what to expect in future :)

There are two kind of magazines (next to the special printed version, which we offered people to buy for a fee) - a normal PDF and an interactive version. The last one takes a little to upload, but have turn pages like a real magazine and will show you the magazine in a much nicer way than a normal PDF.

If you view it as a PDF make sure the settings are two-up with a front page :)

  17. :D:

I suggest - before you praise EU - try playing for some longer, see if after a while you don't start to see EU/MA/... for what it is and what it does.

Is a game worth loosing a friend?

  18. Like I said before, I am still in the honeymoon state of learning/experiencing EU. My main point of this thread was to find out how it was advertised and the methods of bringing in new blood into EU. You are totaly right to say that i have not played enough to understand the real EU but I think I know where you are comming from in that EU is free to play but pay to enjoy all aspects. Nothing is for free ever, beit sweating for hours or donating for PED. I personally enjoy EU and i will invest what i feel comfortable to do. My friends are adults and will either enjoy EU or not, it is their decision and sometimes it is a blast to team up with ppl you actually know in RL.

Again this thread is my new players opinion and I know I have alot to learn, maybe I should have waited to post this thread but I like to air my opinions/questions, albeit the humble they are.

Let someone fly before you burst his baloon.

  19. I said let him enjoy the game. Everybody get there mood swing in the EU world. Some stay unhappy about EU and never come back. Some are happy with EU and stay happy with what MA EU world give us. And like me I had my mood swings between the years, and I did had a bad one. So far I like the toys EU has gave me access to. I have play EU(PE) for 5 years and I have seen a lot of things. People go, people come back, or never comeback. It all depends on the person or critic.

Blood Rebel Templar just had the greatest newbe experience with Eagleton Nova Belton and he loved what I showed him and how things work. So I will say, "Enjoy It!".

There a lot of things to discover beside hunting, crafting, mining etc. Theses are the main thing that frustrate people.

@Blood Rebel Templar, I have to show you my water park ride I discover in Calypso. You'll have a blast and a laugh.

    Thank You
    Benjamin
