Jorge ... I can't tell you how valuable it is to have a developer of a planet interact with us and respond to questions. This act alone gains so much respect from the community because it gives us a feeling of being a part of your process, as well as getting to know you, rather than someone sitting in an ivory tower at a distance. As gamers, we love to know what's going on - to the point of not giving the shop away of course - and it keeps us connected in a way that not only builds a relationship between developer and players, but gains our support and excitement about what's to come. I know my interest sure has increased. So thank you very much for joining us here at EP, it's really appreciated.
There are good games, there are classic games, there are the best of the best games... and then there is Elite that forever stands better than all those :) Theryon wars seems to me may be my new elite :D Can't wait to get tucked into this one, all these planets i am spoilt for choice :P
George, one of my favorite desktop wallpapers (active right now, btw) has a Cobra MkIII ;) MindStar... A hug is worth more than a thousand words. And, well, everybody following this... please, drop by here (warning: image intensive!). Let's move to the Theryon Wars forums set up by Peter so we won't miss a thing :p
Is Theryon still on track to be released in Q4 2011? I checked the website a bit ago and all it has on it is "coming soon". This is definitely the most intriguing EU planet I've seen and I'd leave Calypso in a heartbeat to get over there.
From the OP: Maybe this will make you feel better, though: (Source: Mail from Rafael Espinosa. Received last week, so the "beta for our first game" was this past week).
So I see 4 projects there, 1. Their first game. (Anmynor) - going beta next week - http://www.anmynor.com/ -There are more than 5 golems, in fact, there are more than 62.000 different Golems. Players hand 5 Golems and they can get runes to customize and improve the golems with each victory. Each golem has 4 elements ( arms, legs, torso and head), which can contain 5 runes (water, air, fire, earth and darkness) that modify the skills, features and appearance of the Golems. The combination of the 5 basic elements generates secondary elements: steam, mud, nature, plasma, lava, obsidian, sand, smoke, mist and ice. All these combinations generate more than 62,000 different Golems. > > 2. Game for a third company. - 3. Mini Game based on Theryon Wars. - (likely ios?) 4. Theryon Wars. - starting pre-production aimed at q4 of next year? - http://theryonwars.com/ I don't have much familiarity with the MOBA type games but it looks like they are putting together a pretty nice professional game with Anmynor. It will be interesting to see how successful it is in beta and when it goes live. Even more interesting will be how or if they do any cross advertizing between their different games. Obviously the mini-game will be for advertizing Theryon Wars, but I'm more interested to see if players from Anmynor will cross over to try out Theryon Wars. narfi
I tend to believe that from pre-production to release within a year will be hardly possible. But then it depends on their goals for Theryon Wars of course. It seems that Theryon Wars is the first Planet Partner /Developer who have developed other games before going EU. That must be an advantage.
Well, I think having created another game or two before will be a huge advantage. The world creation really shouldnt take a team toooo long if they have good gfx people with experience. (which they obviously do) Kim has stated on pcf that he can create a weapon in 10 minutes. So I would assume the same goes for other objects as well. (stats wise) and then its just a matter of the gfx which again they already have an experienced team setup. Then its just the balance and story line. Balance is MA. And so its just storyline and tying the map, the creatures, the items, the blueprints together in a cohesive way. I think they can do it with the experience they have. narfi
Creating models is not the problem or issue for Theryon or any other PP be they experienced in games or not. What takes time is: - Fully functioning economy. To date only one planet has this and that's Calypso. Planet economy that utilises all categories clothes, textures, estates, bp's, items, tools etc and how they fit in with planetary loot is all designed by a PP. Careful planning of this is probably the most time consuming as it needs to fit the planets story, make sense and be economically viable. - Intriguing gameplay and story that makes sense. MA provide only the tools it's upto a PP to use them in a creative way. So far I don't see much creativity in their usage on newer planets. They seem to be using existing systems in same way as MA's experimental planet - Calypso. - Organisation of mobs on landscape that has balance between how natural wildlife could exist and between hunters and miners requirements. - Intriguing landscape and points of intrest. We used to have some of these in old calypso sadly now none of the planets have this including calypso although Ark seem to be making progress on this now. Again they can't just be random have to make sense in terms of the planets history and invented heritage. - Creative use of missions involving proper storyline. So far the platform fails to provide a mechanism for this and so no planet has proper story missions. - A plan on how the planet will develop (backstory and progress). No existing planet seems to be developing along any storyline arc. This can influence all the above points and so requires careful thought. - Community relations and management of planet/player interaction and development of playerbase. Analysis of factors that hinder progress and addressing them accordingly. Poor on all planets. - Marketing. Speaks for itself and is poor across the board except RT at moment with The THING. - There is another category. However I will keep that to myself :)
Nice post, George. There's a few things I don't fully agree with you on, though. Cyrene might break that tradition. I also think Arkadia did a good job in the beginning. Perhaps they are hindreded in their further development due to specific systems missing and MA priopritizing others. Again, not entirely true for Arkadia. Cyrus definitly did a great job as a community manager, and their signing with Alienware was a nice move. They might have other tricks up their sleeves as well.
Cyrene is not yet operational. I'm aware they may break that tradition but I was referring to what we can actually see in game. Arkadia had a good story before it went live. I'm talking about the in game story and evolution of a planets storyline ingame. In that regard Arkadia is same as the rest, moving nowhere. Arkadia are hindred by the fact they went live before the planet was fully complete and thus are working now on completing it. In this respect they were dishonest to us. In some respects they have been good I'd agree with you on that. However, in other respects they have be dishonest. They are lucky as a big section of the community supported them. Also their failings have not affected the majority and they have disguised them fairly well. While that approach seems to be working for them for now it is not a long term solution. They have been good at picking up on thoughts of the community and their issues and have acted to address those issues. So in that respect they have been good at "Analysis of factors that hinder progress and addressing them accordingly." so that part was not correct for Ark.
(Scribble, scribble...) Oh, uhm, hi... (Scribble, scribble...) You do realize I can't be the only one taking notes here, right? I'll make some brief comments... - Our public milestones start on Q4 2012, as admin perfectly quoted Rafael, our CEO. - Narfi, as a studio our catalogue is... quite thin atm, but our individual experience dates back to tapes and ZXs... Thanks for the links, videos, update. - Tass, the "game for a 3rd company" is about to be released (iTunes); spun by a TV show, Spanish only More news to come. SOON!
Now that your back and active amongst us, I would like to highlight something George posted above, With the launch of each of the existing 'new' planets there was a huge influx of excited players going to check out the planet as well as new avatars comming in from who knows where, press releases etc... For all 3 of them so far the weak economy has discouraged most to either return/move to Calypso or to quit entirely. I love the game, and I love the new opportunities on the new planets, but this is the sad truth of it. No one wants to loot stuff they cant use or sell (I have Ks of ped of unusable stuff in my storage waiting/hoping for a use someday and thats too much for a casual player to tie up in a game) and no one wants to get blueprints which require resources that dont exist. On your first launch day you still will need to have ALL aspects of the economy covered or you are doomed from the start to have the weak starting years that the other new planets have had. You need weapons and armor both in loot and crafted. You need the crafted items to be in high demand so as to drive the crafting and mining communities. The guns need to have a balance of decay/ammo which allows them to be sold for some markup 120ish% on average and still maintain an adjusted eco of 2.8+ dmg/pec. This is where you can see that Arkadia has a huge advantage over Rocktropia is in the balance of the stats of their weapons. It is those weapons that drive every aspect of the economy (hunting, mining, crafting) and makes them all viable. We are all eager to see what you are producing, hopefully you can be the "biggest and best" in the time frames we all want :P narfi
Spanish like the Iberian peninsula Dear Narfi... I've read all the comments in this thread. I have not replied to each of them but this one of yours deserves a special tick. First of all, because I believe we could split it into two different subjects: the current state of Entropia Universe (not only one planet or another) and then what is it we intend to bring with our planet and what you'd like us to include or leave out. Narfi, with all respect and tenderness... About the current state of the universe, I understand we all have the General Forums. This thread about our first interview here has included various other things over this time but I'm not comfortable with turning it into the scenario for this (on the other hand) friendly and constructive dialogue. I don't want to sound rude or offend anyone here, but we could write about what's working as you, players, want and what isn't, just in some other thread. I do want to read your comments and ideas and EP gives us a good and clear forum structure; perhaps people from other planets or MA itself won't be following this thread: We can make this subject easier to find in a more suitable place (forum). About Theryon as a planet, we also have a specific forum. There are things we're not ready to announce to the general public, but many others I can comment, discuss, even ask for your opinions. And as this thread is evolving, I'm posting this and heading right to the Theryon Wars Forums here in EntropiaPlanets to post a spontaneous surprise for you all. Drop by and participate, if you like.
Wow...so many places I think I might want to visit! I'll be keeping track of this development as well :) Looking forward to seeing you guys in the universe.
