I'm happy to announce that the form to add and edit Missions is BETA as of today. It can be used. A few bugs might occur, a few changes might be made, fx more instructions will be added. Known Issues & To-Do Cost-free & For beginners doesn't work like supposed FIXED Required Missions/Start Condition doesn't show FIXED Several entries in rewards show as plain text but should be links Tooltip icon breaks row when content column gets too wide FIXED Merge Mission Giver Long, Lat, Height to "Position" DONE Add "Required Item" field to Start Condition DONE Add option for repeatable missions DONE Add option for missions only available in a specific timeframe Add tooltips to form Add template for Mining objectices DONE Add template for Crafting objectives DONE Make objectives fields creature/resource/item capable of containing lists DONE Update 'old' missions page DONE Move Missions Browser to Portal DONE Adjust Missions Browser design DONE Improve Missions Browser, add new categories and missions Add latest edits to Portal DONE 'Outsource' the chart to be displayed in forums DONE Style the chart to be displayed in forums POSTPONED (new options for styling to be available next week) Add missions charts to creature, item, area, TP, etc. pages POSTPONED (doesn't make sense before styling has been applied) Add basic statistics to Portal POSTPONED (new options for stats will be released later this year) Add options for categorizing missions by type (Hunting, Mining, Crafting, Exploring, etc...) DONE Accompanying the form is Portal:Missions which is by now just a kind of worksheet displaying all mission on the wiki, mostly only their name/link to the page. The rest of the table will be filled automatically when entering data using the Mission form. To do so you can just click the name of a mission and then the "Edit with form" tab which can be found next to the regular "Edit" tab. In the near future Portal:Mission will get more features and a better look and feel. So far missions added with Entity Hunt The THING, Ancient Greece, etc will automatically appear on theaccording pages like HTT, AG, etc. With wiki going more and more structured data chart of missions will appear on many pages, fx TP pages and other location pages will display missions closeby, creature pages will display missions that require to kill specific creatures, Skill pages will display missions that reward the specific skills, etc. Please help to make this happen. Any questions, suggestions, criticism, etc more than welcome. Another new (extendable) feature combined with Portal:Missions allows us to integrate the live wiki portal here in a forum post. Any forum can have it, suggest it to your favourite planet's forum to get ;) Please note that this is just a very rough preview actually not adjusted for forums yet:
Very nice. I like it. I'll post if I have any issues. Although one question as for merging this table with the current content... did you design this to me side to side with the current content, or to replace it altogether? The amount of info in the box should be sufficient enough to function as a complete mission summary, but I don't know if that's what you wanted it to be as the table is sorta small and aligns to the right.
The current content of pages will remain untouched. The form/box is rather designed to turn the key properties into 'structured data', right now it is just plain text. One of the main reason for doing this is to make everything queryable, fx tis would allow to show a table of all mission on Planet X that reward skills but do not require to kill creatures. A simple use-case would be showing all HTT missions in the missions section of the HTT page. This is an example how mission docu can look like: http://www.entropiaplanets.com/wiki/Mission:Calculate_Trajectory It's just the old fact sheet that needs to replaced with the new thingie.
Alrighty, a few bug fixes and improvements. I think it's quite handy to use already. Any bug reports or suggestions for further improvements?
The list of open known issues and to-dos is further melting down. Although, there's still a lot to do. Any feedback yet? Maybe there is a society forum out there who wants to integrate a missions listing in any form similar to what I did in the first post? The content is quite scalable. Can be bulleted lists, tables, rows, etc. with any setup of fields and restriction of result, fx only Iron Challenge, only Planet X Missions, only the latest VU's missions, only mission that reward Skills, etc.
