... well that was actually 2 days ago, but as usual I forgot about it.

I started this game on December the 20th 2004, right after I seen the news about Deatifier buying Treasure Island. The sifi theme attracted me (I do not like elves) and I went in without much knowledge about the game what so ever.

I ended up starting in Fort Ithaca, because the Port Atlantis server was to crowded (i figured out a long time later) because of the large amount of new players reading the same news I did. Ithaca was not the best place to start, because it was smack in the middle of an island with Atrox and Robots on the borders, so pretty hard to get of (we had no VTOL's back then). But after a long time killing Exarosaur and Plumatergus I made it of the island and was ready to explore the rest of the planet.

    Eudoria.jpeg

During my runs across the planet, usually alone, I came across creatures that scared the hell out of me (well all of them did at first) and I got killed over and over and over and over and over again before I finally got to the outpost or TP I wanted to be. Along the way I made some friend, which over the years a lot of them I lost again to because they decided to quit the game. But some of them stuck around and I still know and talk to once in a while.

After a long time I finally got to Port Atlantis and was able to get some more info on the game by other players. By then I had to much skills to become a disciple so I had to manage on my own.

I still remember the old Swamp Camp close to PA where you had to run past Combibo Island to get there and people were sweating the poor creatures dry by the dozens. Then hunting Daikiba North of Swamp Camp, there was a huge spawn there, so enough for everyone, there were also always people around to help you out and buy your stuff if needed, sweat prices was 13 PED a 1000 back then. But then MA changed the sweating and it dropped to 5 PED and all hell broke loose, but we got used to it pretty soon.

Somewhere during that time I got bored of the game and decided to quit for a while. That while turned out to be close to 2 years I think, and then Neverdie bought Club Neverdie and was news all over the gaming world and I started to play again.

Not long after I rejoined the game I got that famous "welcome back HOF" a 6700 PED Foul Gather which actually only got in the way of me hunting Armax. That obviously scared the hell out of me but I was happy and bought myself some nice stuff like Ghost armor and some nice gun.

From then on I got to know a lot of people and kept playing all the time and also depositing to the game. Since then a lot has changed (some for the good and some for the worse) but it was an exciting time. VU10 that changed the entire planet and we all felt like newbies again exploring the planet. New planets which was very exciting and interesting to see what other companies did with the game. Vehicles which I still think is not really needed although I still use them. Space, well been there last week, was not to impressed and a lot of stuff that went away and got back. Oh and the Calypso deeds of course.....

Anyway today, now that I am old, I can look back on a few years of joy in this game
and I can look forward to, I hope, a few more years of joy. These are at least some very exciting times in this game with even more planets coming soon and more systems becoming available to the other planet partners. I am looking forward to see what the future will bring and if it all turns out to be as good as I hope it to be.

I guess next year, when I turn 8, we will have 2 more planets and a lot more systems in place to make our gaming life even more fun. I will do an update in a year to see if things turned out right.

Thanx for reading and have a :shots: on me !

  9. I miss the old Calypso land, would had been nice if they could have kept it and instead made a completly new continent when they launched vu10

What I miss most is the history that was everywhere on the old planet. The remains of the wars, the robot 'carcasses' in various spots, the trenches north of Zychion, the crashed spaceships, the cave, corkscrew mountain, Cape-On-Smiling, the Umbranoid villages.

You know, all the stuff that made it look as if the planet was actually inhabited before I arrived there. The things showing the remains of past civilizations and conflicts.

Now everything just has a very static feeling about it. "We landed here, pumped some cities out of the ground, now get to it".

  11. Happy birthday. Razer. An interesting and enjoyable read.

Just curious, what did MA do to drop the sweating ped prices?

13 PED per k sounds pretty awesome. And getting paid by other players means MA wasn't necessarily losing money. I wonder why this happened.

Sounds like EU had quite an interesting history.

  12. Probably because the old mindforce attack chips use standard mind essence made by the sweat. With a high sweat price, the mind essence was too expensive.

it was VU 7.6 (click this to see more)

Probably done because it was to easy to play without depositing back then

On a side note, this was changed in that VU as well:

    Loot windows

The loot window functionality has changed. They are now merely a "receipt" of the items found or made. The items are instead automatically placed in your inventory when found or made. Stackable items are automatically stacked. The "Take all" button is therefore rephrased to "Close".

Before this in VU 6.1 it was changed as well, but I was not playing the game yet

this probably made the price rise that high and MA decided to do something about it

On a side note, this was changed in that VU as well:

    The Amethera continent is live!
The all new continent of Amethera is released! The planet Calypso’s second continent is available for exploration. The land contains never before seen creatures, threats, plants, and trees. The area of the continent is roughly three times size of the old Eudoria continent. This addition brings another great location to the Project Entropia experience, together with the Crystal Palace Space Station released earlier this year.

Thanks Razer I enjoyed that post! Spome good nostalgia... I wonder... how much did starting "in the sticks" at Ithica influenced you staying in the game or not... theres a reason why I ask, relates to the CND "drops" that came later.

Me too! I don't remember there being a swamp camp at PA till much later though. Sweat Camp was at Camp Phoenix. Initially over in the hills to the north where we all used to sweat Diripi's. This was back in the days of maximum sweat per mob was 3 and this remained till you moved the mob off the radar and back again. Happy days, good community. Later it moved to the pylon at CP and also I think there was a period of standing on large wreckages to sweat mobs below.

Yes... it really wouldn't kill them to put back all that stuff.... thigs that made the place feel "lived in" I think theres some fun scope for missions there too.

Well I am not sure of course, but I do know it needed some perseverance to continue in the game because everything was hard and I spend weeks just in and around Ithaca. I can not tell you if I had done stuff different if I had started in Port Atlantis, I might had a mentor then and I might have sweated more in stead of depositing a small amount of money.

Sweating I think plumeted when it got easier to get it. ie yes the sweat cap removed and the amount you could pull in over time got higher with things like the mass sweating of high level mobs like abulimaxs. MA were maybe right to try and balance MF with other weapons by removing the need to rely on a player provided resource. I think maybe they could have not done this though and instead made it easier to get sweat so the price was lower but the volume available higher. Most people don't use TP chips now (which is more or less the only mass use need for sweat) cause driving is far more fun. I think if TP chips AND vehicles ran on sweat things might be a little more balanced. Its also a fair move since vehicle use is "optional" ie there is the alternative of running or car sharing ;)

  19. Hi,

    fully agree here (for Calypso):
After the change, Calypso, that I have spent so much time on, was alien to me. It was just another new planet, and not one even a bit resembling the old one. This has hurt me a lot, and has made me go away for some serious months.

Calypso still hasn't regained the former feeling. I'm an alien there, even if been born on this planet. It hurts me to hit well known TP's, just to see a very different landscape there. It hurts me to see that all of my reminiscences have been overwritten. I don't want to get hurt, so I left Calypso for good.
And found a new home on Arkadia, that is much more old-calypso like then current calypso.

Calypso has dropped anything of the "old age" we still know, has lost it's myths, and it's soul. It feels "synthetic" now, computer made using random numbers. Including non passable mountains/ cliffs all over the place. Not a planet I'd enjoy.

    Have fun!

Wow, same day as me, same reason as me and an Ithaca baby, same as me too! Awesome stuff Razer. Can't believe I've been "involved" in one game for all those years!
