Entropia Universe receives USD 2.5m from a single investor in Planet Calypso Citizenship

  1. Probably someone ficticious - no actual name is given, and we've heard this type of thing from MA so many times. Anyone in 'the real world' would not do this with 2.5 mil US$ unless their personal fortune was near the 5.00 - 6.00 mil mark - it's simple economics.

  2. The money from the sell would not be seen in-game. This is the money MA gets for selling Calypso, it will not enter in the loot pool.
Paying that much money might be good short term if they advertise it like they did CND ;P the very least new players will start on Calypso and that means 25% of whatever they do still goes to Calypso if I remember correctly :)
Calypso won't go bankrupt. They just have to release another Eomon migration soon and everyone that can will be trying to get their unL VTOL, stack up on martial or get some unL armor (what did they drop, eon i think?)

  3. Maybe NI recent investor is also holding 25k deeds or more

    really ! really ! reaaaalllyy!

    omg ! omg !

    lol thanks for the laughs.

So according to you MA have not got a $2.5 million cash injection. The mind boggles at some remarks. There is absurd then there is Absurd! :-)

Incorrect. MA needed a cash injection for marketing. Why? to get more players. Now if they do a major marketing campaign they are likely to get new players. What will these players do? logical to assume they would play the game...

Some will leave, some will stay. Hopefully before MA start the marketing they make some changes and give better returns when hunting etc. Reducing cost to play would be a smart move. Works in the benefit of players and MA. People would stay and play the game longer and the game would have a wider appeal.

I think that "CLD sale for marketing campaign" slowly turns into an urban legend.

For 6M USD you probably get world-wide prime time TV spots, I'm pretty sure that's not what MA are planning. They might use some of the money for marketing but for sure not all of it.

And then, if you run a healty business you should be able to get bank loans for a fraction of what CLD cost MA. That's even more true if you need a specific sum of money for a specific marketing campaign.

Let's play some figures. At 30% ROI the 60k CLD (=MA, ARU, whoever) will pay out 1.8M/year or 6M in 3 years. Considering MA are using the money from the CLD sale for a 3 years marketing campaign it will cost them the initial 6M + another 6M redemption of the loan in form of CLD revenue payouts = 12M in total or 4M/year. Considering the 1.8M/year paid out as CLD revenues are 25% of the total revenue the current player base is generating that total revenue would sum up to 6M/year. To rake in the additional 4M/year to pay for the marketing campaign this very marketing campaign must increase the deposits/player base to 166,6% of what it is today. Any severe mistakes? And the interesting thing, we, the players, can track the development by the performance of CLD revenues.

Would have been a smart move and 25% Calypso revenues that now go to deedholders could have been used to reduce the cost to play by maybe 20%.

However, in the end, as always, we still don't know anything because MA don't want us to know something.

Really pleased to see such an investment in EU! It will be interesting to see how this unfolds.

    Wouldn't that be nice!

  9. How should we see any money injection from this?

The money from CLD was ment to be used to advetise or im I wrong

I don't get why people se scary aliens and hairy werewolf everytime MA or FPC do something? I read some threads over at FPC forum an people realy work hard to find fault/fraud.

I must be the last lucky idiot who does not see cheating/scamming in every corner as soon as MA cough.

Didn't people with these shares also get votes in whatever MA has planned? So this person now has 41.67% of the votes.. Seems very close to a monopoly :)

Yes, and the person can build up to 2777 houses, basically a whole small town just for him/herself. :eek (2):

  12. Quoting Meg about being nice... This is like "pun intended"!

I can imagine this "individual" planning on selling land deeds to other players, mostly newvomers to EU, while this player keeps key spaces for setting up services, shops... similar to "Urban LAs". And, of course, with so many deeds he/she woud have a say on what gets done and prioritized...

So if this new owner would want some profit, would actually have to do something with those deeds. There was a quote about big responsibilities and land deeds I'm failing to properly remember...

    Summing up: I can dream...
    Also: You can laugh...

P.S.: So the voting "power" would now be MA, this Player and us innocent bystanders?
    Can't help a smirk!

  13. I did say Probably someone ficticious, as in I don't believe one person invested this amount. If however this person is part of a group, then it is a group investment which is a different thing. We need never know who the others are...

  14. Hi,

I'd think the buyer will be kept secret, because it's a MA socket puppet used to preserve at least a bit of the Calypso income they sold. Maybe they realized they'd not need to sell all of the accounted 6 Mil to survive? And then just created an avatar to keep the profits of the remaining 2.5 Mil ...

They'll not reduce the costs, because it works this way. Enough ppl gambling high stake, burning a lot of money. We read about every few weeks, "I have lost some K$ a week for some months now, hunting [crazyMob]."
And enough ppl profiting of this, playing smaller, often reaching their break-even. I haven't deposited since months, nevertheless my value continues to rise. Very, very slowly, but it rises.
And then we have the new players, a small part of 'em depositing, a tiny fraction of these actually staying, but enough to replace the few that sell out & leave.

This way the game will go on and on, and will produce a nice income for MA. As long as it's small enough, no authority will have a closer look, this is why MA doesn't do no real advertisement. Facebook, ok, but a single spot at the SuperBowl would reach so much more people ... As would do serious advertising in the different game portals. But MA doesn't do this, they do their best to keep below radar. Guess I know why.

This game is ways too much gambling, too much operating a one-handed-bandit, too much dependent of some poor (rich) gambling addicts. To change this now would be a task ways beyond the possibilities of MA, and ways beyond their willing - well, they live well of it!

MA would be able to make this game a huge success in the gaming world, but they wouldn't earn much more doing this. So obviously they prefer to be small and profitable, so much more easy then to be big, famous, and not more profitable ...

    Have a good time!
