NI as we know is not doing well. RT and Arkadia are also struggling. RT is surviving by giving good items, rewards for missions etc at expense of damaging the whole platform. The strategy works for a bit, people visit and leave then the next round of "shit" starts. Arkadia is a parasite on Calypso. It has from start targeted calypso players with it's storyline and using the bad vibes players have against Calypso as a platform to entice Calypsians. It does this by providing an image of all the wrongs Calypso does that it does not. For example bugs in new VU's. Calypso players are tired of that, Ark gives the impression they check everything thoroughly and they have a whole army of us supporting them ;) for example radio stations propagating this Myth. We buy this myth because we want to believe it. At heart we know the reality... So far only Calypso is working. NI, RT, Arkadia are all failures. They will only be succesful once they have developed their planet properly and are bringing in new players. Which they are not doing. Don't get me wrong a new planet can succeed where NI, RT, Arkadia have failed. To succeed you need a good planet + marketing for new players. There simply isn't room for more planets to repeat the "gimmicks" that NI, RT and Arkadia get up to. More of that nonesense will only endanger the whole platform.
It's only a repeat if MA let them at the end of the day its all on mindarks end the pps are fine its just mindark butting in saying oh no you can't have that yet or gun or imk2 RT version hell we have not got taming yet they keep giving us nerfs. MA is a business just like a real life furniture dealer MA set the rules on what to sell. MA have to manually activate some npc's as seen with Cyrene and Arkadia. If MA give pp's more freedom and more access then things would change but MA is tight self centered. I hope to have a planet where hunting , minining and crafting does not exist but pure hardcore gameplay to compete with other games on steam.
Thats BS... There are mid-lvl players who started on Rocktropia playing all over the universe now. It has been fun watching them develop and surpass my own lvls. I am sure there are or soon will be from Arkadia as well. NI is struggling for sure, but even with an owner who doesn't care for it, and no updates, there are still players who go and enjoy it, it is an asset to the universe even in its current state. One of the biggest issues with the new planets is the 'Calypso Investor' types who come in and buy up all the shops and apartments etc... with NO intention of using them other than to resell for higher prices later. This jacks up the prices and prevents the new players who the Planet has actually attracted from actually being able to work at building the local economies and in turn drives them to Calypso. Another big issue is people such as yourself with nasty vendettas who will go out of their way to publicly attack and put down any planet or change that doesn't directly benefit only you. I don't understand what your agenda is, or why you need to shit in everyone's cheerios. But honestly, if you hate the game, you should step back and leave it alone for those who love it. narfi ps. still waiting for the public apology you promised me.
What a preposterous load of rubbish, George. Arkadia, a parasite on Calypso? Arkadia is bringing in players, has a clear marketing strategy that has been talked about, and it is only a matter of time until it grows to a fantastic size. I don't think I just believe that because I want to, as you allege we all do. It's clear that it's working. I think your definition of failure needs a big overhaul.
The platform will certainly become a failure if too many new players and especially those thinking of playing for the first time read too many posts like this. As I see it, Entropia Universe is already seven years old, much more than that if you include the original PE, and so I hardly think that it's failing. OK, so not all of the PP'ships are getting all of it right all of the time - but what do people expect. However, I do agree that some of it has been a bit gimmicky, so any new PPartner that tries to avoid that as much as possible with a well thought out scenario, marketing, etc, should succeed...
If we remove all older players from Calypso and then look at the PP's I think we'll find NI,RT,Ark to be failures. They simply would not be able to survive on the players they have brought into the game. Simple as that. It is precisely this attitude we have that we must not say certain things which allows corruption to flourish. We want the PP's to do well so we don't say certain things. Things that may hurt. In the long run this is counter productive because a natural mechanism that keeps balance is then eliminated. By censoring what we say by ourselves we are in essence creating problems for ourselves for the future. Rather than becoming a failure by talking freely it will in fact strengthen the game and the platform. That we agree on. The platform is succeeding due to Calypso and on the brink of an expansion. Cyrene I suspect will be a strong contender to Calypso. Toulan may also be a successful planet. Hopefully the no good pp's like NI, RT, Arkadia will not be too much of a drain on the platform. It's never too late for them to change. RT seem to be finally improving their economy and Ark are doing some marketing. So some positives there and signs of hope. In the case of RT I suspect it will keep repeating the mistakes of it's past unless there is some kind of new leadership. Arkadia is a more complex PP they are doing many things right. It's possible they may change and actually be the image they project themselves to be. They have been very successful so far marketing a "manufactured" image.
No, it's not as simple as that at all. I think that's a dramatic oversimplification of the process of building a successful planet, and Rome wasn't built in a day. What is your presumed time limit by which a planet needs to have brought enough players in the game to not be a failure? Your time limit must be a couple of years or less, yet you're comparing them with a planet that's been around for over a decade? If I hypothetically started a planet with capital to last ten years while I built up a sustainable business, you'd presumably deem my planet a failure when I'm only 20% or so of the way through executing my business plan.
There is no time limit. I would say a PP is a failure until it can support itself. If you had a business plan that would take 10 years for it to become sustainable how would you expect it to survive the interim period? Purely from your capital? If that be the case in EU it need not be released until it is complete i.e. after 10 years when it is complete and ready to sustain itself. Arkadia is not sustaining itself. Neither is it purely funding itself while it is developed. Therefore a valid argument can be made for it to be a parasite. When Arkadia was launched I think they said it will be fully complete. Which was not true and as such false advertising.
If a pre existing player is spending more on one of the new planets than they would have staying on calypso, that needs to be considered towards the success of that planet. Calypso is/was stagnant, there was no point for low-mid lvl players because the Ubers had a monopoly on 'all' aspects of the game. Your accusations of leaching have a minor point of validity, but there are two sides to that coin in that players who just sat around staring at storage on calypso are active members and even leaders in the new communities, cycling more, spending more, and making the game a better place. This was only made possible by the addition of the new planets, and is not what I would consider leaching, but enhancing the universe (and if I understand how the income is split brings more income for Calypso as well) A leach takes without giving, what we are observing now is more of a symbiotic relationship. It is our ability to 'self-censor' and consider our actions that makes us human. Without that we are no better than dogs who bite when scared or injured, whine when hungry, crap wherever they want to unless trained to whine or scratch or 'ring a little bell' Constructive criticism is good and healthy, but that is not your approach. You have an obvious agenda to tear down progress and since I have been on the receiving end of your lies and slander, I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you do not care about facts but about causing the most damage possible. . OK treasure hunting was not yet ready, and who's fault was that exactly, yeah MindArks for not implementing the system. Other then that for me at least the planet was ready to go. Sure there were not loads of stuff on the planet, but even after 10 years of development Calypso is lacking a lot of stuff as well. I'm also not sure what you believe is fully complete, all the systems running or no need to develop any further? I see the development of Arkadia as a catalyst for Calypso to start developing stuff in a rapid tempo, and that's not because they all of a sudden felt like it, but because they realized that Arkadia (and Cyrene in a smaller way) was attracting new players (and yes some old ones as well) and they did not. I agree that the Calyptians are in a way harming the other planets, by buying all the 'good stuff' from the planets and selling them on Calypso, yes part of the game, but in this way Calypso (or it inhabitants) is harming the other planets more then the other way around.

I think it's fair to say a business is not profitable until it can support itself, but calling it a failure while it's still building toward profitability is unhelpfully cynical at best. On that basis, every business startup is a failure unless it's making profit from day one. Facebook would have been a complete failure in your book until it started advertising. As would Google. Based on fundamentally disagreeing with your definition of failure, I guess I've got nothing more to say here.
Is this a post where you are ranting about how bad the loot is on calypso thinking it's due to the other planets and a lot of people moving away from Calypso since not much is going on there and a lot of new players can be found on other planets?
Nah, the thread is a split-off from another thread, which involved a totally different topic. I wanted to keep the original discussion clean, so hence the split.
Hmm you can also look at the other way around George. Calypso is still here thanks to the other planets. I don't think i would still be in the game if it wasn't for the new planets, i grew bored of calypso after many years there. And calypso still makes a very nice amount of peds from my decay. And i'm sure i'm not the only one still here thanks to other planets. Although i have to agree on RT mostly leeching players from other planets with their markup drops, and next island is nice, but never did any good advertising. Arkadia however has probably spend the most on advertising in the last year. Won't comment on Cyrene since it isn't really live yet (except for they are taking their time). And if there is one thing damaging this universe it's the attitude of some players on pcf.
As the case often is, the truth is somewhere between. He has a point in that the players on new planets mostly are previous Calypso players, at least the first couple of month, so in this regard they "steal" players from Calypso. I'm one of them, these days i am mostly plays on Arkadia, even if i still goes to Calypso now and then. I can also feel that they are too slow in developing the new planets and often too much unfinished and/or are missing when they launch their planets. And the failure to increase the player base of EU are also a failure for the new planet partners, not only for MA. You can keep blaming MA for everything bad, the planet partners are also to be blamed for a lot of the delays and half completed planets. But to say the planets are failures are not correct, better do say they have a lot too improve and show us they can deliver good and interesting content by their own and also bring in new players. Too be honest, the planet that are most suited to have the name "Next Island", is Arkadia. It's even have the look of a single island. At least the environment of Rocktropia and Next Island felt a bit different from the Calypso. It's not necessary a bad thing to be similar to Calypso, but if they want to compete with Calypso they need to have something that are different from Calypso that will attract players. With the new treasure hunting and the instances they at least are starting do move forward in that aspect. But in the end, the biggest problem is the combine failure of both MA and the planet partners to increase the player base. With more planets we need more players, that a mission both MA and the planer partners most succeed in or we will have failed planets.
I wasn't really going to post, because I don't like getting involved in this type of discussion any more ... however, I have to make one point very clear please ... Planet Partners do NOT "steal" players from other planets, people make a "choice" to go to other planets of their own free will. Planet Partners advertise their planets, and then I'm sure it's a case of people wanting to explore and see what a new planet is all about, and this activity will continue to happen. Planet Partners can absolutely have a focus on bringing in new players, and I know that Arkadia has definitely made the effort, and will continue to make the effort. I also know that Ed with Cyrene has always had a plan in place to market to new players, so ... I don't see where any Planet Partner at this time is actively focusing any kind of effort to "steal" players from Calypso or any other planet. No matter how long it takes a Planet Partner to increase their population, or how much effort they put into it, players will leave Calypso and visit other planets, and ... by the same token, new players that come into the universe on another planet as their home base end up on Calypso as well. It is so unfair to say that a planet is failing while in the process of development, and as was mentioned by someone else, Calypso wasn't perfect when it was created either, or even perfect now after what, 10 years, but the efforts continue to improve and make it better. I think there are some incredibly unrealistic expectations being thrown around without taking into consideration the number of variables that come into play, and especially all of those we have no clue about. Also, how can you expect other planets to compete with Calypso who has been around for as long as it has. I think Planet Partners are focusing on their development plans to continually improve so that they have their own economy in place, but again, there are variables that come into play that make it a challenge, and I'm sure we're all aware of what those variables are, I don't need to list them. I think rather than tearing Planet Partners down, we should be of the mindset of continuing to be supportive and give suggestions and feedback in order to help make things better.
