Unlocking Robotology

Thanks for the update info on scanning robots. Used to scan minerbots at TI before the sga, but the real trick was luring them to a certain area so they couldn't attack you ;)

 

Hmm.... so that kinda sucks.... I seem to remember once someone asked Marco about scanning and "the point" he said "point? what do you mean? you get skills" or something like that.

Seems now very few skills are gained so maybe we need a new point...

 

LOL! I like the spirit here - 'Wooo-hoooooo' (that's a ghost) - but talking about abusing the system, well there used to be this little old barn near TI Castle, don't know if it's still there - and anyway someone told me how to lure miner bots down a cliff facing the back of the barn after first jumping down in front of it and heading for that tiny little gap between the wall of the barn and the other cliff face. The Minor bot wouldn't 'see you' for some reason, and would stop at the base of the cliff that it just followed you down and start drilling which is what minor bots do. Thus preoccupied, it was then a simple matter of going around to the other side of the barn and going onto the brick wall at the back of it and then just start scanning it - it still wouldn't 'know you're there' as it was now well and truly in mining mode. I could stay there for hours scanning these minor bots :)

 

I haven't done any scanning since before the SGA so don't even know exactly when scanning was nerfed, so yep these types of scanning exploits may not work any more...

 

Ok I tried scanning a few people the other day at the newbie arrival area. Nothing nana zip.

No skills at all... what goes on? Scanning is now completely pointless aside from to get a little unnecessary information.

So we can't skill up to help with crafting etc using scanner any more... rather pants.

Was this a recent thing? I was scanning the vehicle collection that was lined up nicely, and had no problems with collecting skills, but that was a couple of vu's ago.

Other then that Mindark changed scanning awhile ago. Now you can only scan one thing at a time to get skills. So once you scanned one object once, you need to scan, I believe, another 20 before you can get skills off of the first object again. Can't remember when they did it, but was awhile ago.

Hmmm it just seems silly. Why take the most pointless, dull, repetitive, thankless task in game and make it LESS "fun"?
Seriously, where is the "fun brigade" at MA?

Not totally related but I was looking at my MF skills the other night and suddenly discovered I am maxed on all the gear I have all of a sudden. Don't remember being there before. The only stuff I wasn't maxed on was laceration and cold chips. Interesting thing too, when I used those chips I got skill gains almost every shot. With the maxed stuff, skill gains were maybe every 5 times or so.

People tell me that SIB isn't worth it.... I do wonder on what value system this conclusion was based... I guess if you are looking at economy then yes but I think the skill gains are definitely faster on SIB un maxed... well at least for cryo chips ;)

 

I think I tried those ones... didn't get anywhere I either. I discovered I got skills from scanning NPC's on Monria.... only once per NPC though and not always...

 

I just learnt you can scan NPC's. Never even thought of it...

 

This is how I break games. I go "what would no one ever expect me to do?" then I do it. Folks like McCormick and that wizard guy are even better at it than me though.

 

4.)I tried spider bombers and it is nothing different.

Where are Spider Bombers? They are the only things I want as a pet in game (and maybe a Hiryuu - but only if I can fly on it). This of course means MA will NOT make them tamable ;) I'll still be amazed if they make anything tamable though.

Think I'll do some more experimenting with scanning again. I do not anticipate "fun" results

hehe. I wonder if MA could bring Hades back as an underground/excavated city... maybe it wasn't destroyed after all and just burried! I don't trust them to do it right though... look at the CCS, only 2 looted as of yesterday. A very special kind of fun indeed.

I need to go back to the vulcano as have some missions to "tidy" round there anyhow - thanks!
