This afternoon and tomorrow, maintenance will be done on EntropiaPlanets. After the lawsuit from Internet Brands against XenForo was settled earlier this year, the XenForo team finally could get back to work, and they yesterday churned out no less than 3 releases, including an update to the XenForo software itself. I'll be updating EP to XenForo 1.1.4 tonight. This will not mean any new functionality, but rather it addresses some bugs, and ads a few admin tools making it harder for spammers to register accounts (actual people should not be inconvenienced by the process. It merely helps to weed out automated registration bots). One nice change that will have a slight impact on the user experience is that whenever updates will be done now, the annoying maintenance screen will no longer be visible. Initially, this meant users would see a blank screen while the back-end updating took place. We added an add-on recently that instead showed a proper screen, but that situation was still not ideal, so that add-on was replaced with another add-on that instead made the forum continue to work as usual. While not everybody might have realized it, the last few weeks, despite it not being visible, quite a bit of updating has been going on, which hints the system worked well. 1.1.4 now has this functionality built-in, so this ought to ensure that even when we do perform maintenance, you will be able to keep on clickin' away on EP. Another change they made is the release of an official product, for which I grabbed a license for EP. I have yet to figure out exactly where/how it will fit in, but I probably will add it and start playing with it. Furthermore, we tried upgrading our wiki late last year. It failed, and thus the upgrade was rolled back. I'll be trying again tomorrow to see if we can get the wiki updated to the latest version. This means that for the larger part of tomorrow, the wiki will not be available for editing. Read-access should remain, albeit there can be some interruptions. You might also experience some slightly reduced performance while files are being transfered to and from the servers. I apologize for the inconvenience! I have quite a few tricks up my sleeve for the next few days/weeks/months, so stay tuned :)
Apart from some minor bugs that hopefully got sorted, we are fully functional again, albeit now running the latest version of XenForo, MediaWiki and Senantic MediaWiki. We hope to be able to show some new stuff soon :)
