I think they might have and I welcome it. I hope the unlocking of tiers is based on amount of ammo cycled and that there would be some way to track that on the gun. Like a counter ticking down to 0 to show when next tier is unlocked. It would be nice if the progression from tier 1 to tier 10 would require 400k ped ammo but spaced out so that its 5k for tier 1, 10k for tier2 and 25k for 3 etc. Keep a progression making it worth something to dedicate time ingame instead of buying chips
That's approx. June 2011 then... :p And while i appreciate new stuff like that, especially stuff that rewards you for playing with your gear instead of just stacking it up in storage... but wouldn't it make more sense to get crytopia free of bugs and implement some more of the things players have requested for years, like downloadable skill values, improved FL, yada yada.... instead of implementing new bugged systems?? And i really hope they don't make it too easy to unlock the tiers, or it'd be of no use at all.
One of the many cool new things weâ??re working on right now is the items upgrade and enhancement system, due for release soon. Almost all items can be upgraded to new tiers, and the tier system allows for the connection of a number of enhancement chips that can slot into an item. It works like this: you take an item that you want to improve and begin using it. With usage you increase the itemâ??s tier â?? like when you get normal skill experience. Every new stage (Tier 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 etc) one additional socket slot opens up on the item. For limited items the progress is fully automatic while for unlimited items you need to manually upgrade the tier when it reaches a new stage. An enhancement chip can be connected to a socket. Chips have different functions (weapon chips may add damage, range, accuracy or durability, while armor chips add defense, and mining finder chips add range or search depth â?? to name but a few examples) and can be mixed in order for a player to create their own customized version of their favorite item â?? would you focus on maximizing your damage, or maybe add range and thus creating your own sniper rifle, or maybe be more economical and reduce ammo burn and deterioration? Or a mix â?? you decide! And if your current mix is unsatisfactory, you can always disconnect and connect other enhancement chips to the slots. Enhancement chips manufacturing is a new branch in the crafting system. To create the actual enhancement chips, you need blueprints as well as ingredients. Using them, you can create the chips that you can use yourself or sell on to others. This addition to Planet Calypso will expand the usability of items, making them better and more dynamic than before, making it an easy system even for beginners. It also introduces a high level game to improve the best items to even higher levels, making the enhancement system something for both newcomers as well as veterans. http://www.entropiagateway.com/2009/12/under-the-hood-bigger-stronger-better/
I truly hope it requires a few hundred thousand peds of ammo to go from Tier 1 to Tier 10 and MindArk making it easy to track new eco of guns and stuff. I get alittle uneasy when Marco says the chips is like Energy Cells (Ammo) I hope he is just confused and that each enhancer is like a 40-50ped tt chip that is repairable
I really like the sound of this :), being able to modify a tool or weapon over time sounds nice. If done well this could be really good :).
I like the fact that it sounds like in theory that for example a DOA LM can get close in DPS or better than a Imp.DOA if the Imp.DOA user aint grinding with it...which we all know hasnt happened the last 2 years on either of them. Hell, maybe my shitty EP41 can get over 90dps and still maintain 4+ dmg/pec...can only pray...or hell I probably just go with XT anyway
Well now doesn't that just explain it all. It will do to hunting what amps did to mining. Now miss rate 50%. Tier 1 = miss rate 47% etc etc. What a scam. I can hear the sheep ingame now "Oh what a wonderful idea". Oh and by the way, I bet there will be slots in the armor to make it tougher. :rotfl: Everyone reduced to Pixie level (touch of sarcasm).
Can't believe it - LOL. So when this item-chipping is introduced, our high hit-ability limited/unlimited wpns + a good amp will miss most of the time if it isn't chipped out? Wish I had kept my mouth shut now about p-g content . But at least now we'll be able to effectively create original items, and if we are rewarded with better loots for the additional expense for the chips maybe this will work...
Yep could create lots of new possibilities :), lets wait to complain now when we see how much it costs us.
Yes this sound fun, but can't help the sceptic in me. 'Upgrade' unlimited items, i.e. pay for them again as well as decay? On limited items, how can the tiers be automatic? 1/3 of the way through it goes up, 2/3rds etc? It also occurs to me that weapons and items had a pretty good system of amps and other attachments that worked fine. Armour had plates, guns had relevant attachments, mining tools had amps etc. Are all these things going to stay? How will they work in combination with chips? This may be a 'cool thing to work on' but there really are a lot of others that would be 'cooler' as in good gameplay, and not 'cooler' as in increased revenue. Still, this is a very early blog and I guess I should reserve judgement until we see some of the result.
This was my first thought, My LR32 with 200 ped on it will only last friday, sat, and some sunday, there is not enough time to upgrade to chips.
I'm wondering if existing skill implants will be effected by this. For instance, if you get a new IRD or Marksman chip, will we get a message saying 'to maximise the effectiveness of your new IRD, etc, skill you should also upgrade your ranged weapons with enhancement chips'.
That's how I foresee the system will be, but much more steep than in the example above. Not too different to the concept of HA today, in terms of progression. I bet the requirements for the next enhancement slot will follow an exponential growth, and unlocking tier 10 will be a matter of years of hardcore usage of the item, similar of what it takes today to reach HA 10.
There was no way to enhance melee weapons! If this does that and the decay is not ridiculous then it could be of benefit to me, when I can be bothered to log in again.
Yes this is true, although the existing mindforce chip system could surely be adapted to this purpose, i.e. a 'melee aim accelerator' mindforce chip or 'melee force/damange enhancer' chip?
