Planet Michael, the ones that have been around for a while probably know what happened there. For the new ones and the ones that just want to hear the story again, some history. October 6, 2008, SEE have been announced as a PP November 11, 2009, Neverdie Studios building SEE planets September 14, 2010, SEE Digital Studios was created September 21, 2010, SEE announced Planet Michael October 28, 2010, SEE announced the Universal Monsters planet December 22, 2010, SEE engaged in taking over Calypso January 27, 2011, SEE buys Planet Calypso June 16, 2011, Partnership between SEE & MA was terminated June 24, 2011, SEE Digital Studios personnel fired June 2012, Dispute between MA/SEE resolved During the development we have seen a few images from planet Michael which we have in our wiki [link] Recently we came across a few other images that suggests that the development might have been a lot further then we thought and that a couple of different areas were in development. Among the images we see some of Neverland, MJ's famous theme park which looks to be a forest in the game, some city/street images and a graveyard with a club named Club Thriller, which of course is a reference to the song Thriller by Michael Jackson. NEVERLAND CLUB THRILLER CITY/STREET One other thing we came across was what looks to be a an early version of the planet Michael map which was on the same website and the same page as the other images. It has no reference to planet MJ but I believe it is a map of the planet. Neverland in the middle, the city/streets on the top right and Club Thriller location I think on the left. There are even some video's to be found on the web about Planet Micheal. They don't show too much, but they again show the progress. > > Info from the Planet Michael EU website (www.planetmichael.com): It looks like that since the deal with Mindark went wrong they stopped developing everything that had something to do with EU and started to turn Planet Micheal into a browser game. Info from the See Global Entertainment website: So, no idea if we'll ever see a Planet Micheal and if we do I'm pretty sure it will not be in Entropia Universe. I for one am glad that this never came to fruition....but thats just my opinion, for what it's worth.
That planet never would have been a success. That aside, I'm glade that SEE is completely out of the picture. In the end, I think it all worked out for the best.
Thaks for the update...mhh...you know what I mean. ^^ Martin Biallas and John Jacobs should have even more stuff, like 3d models of mobs and weapons and sound effects etc. Just ask them. :p At least Planet MJ would not have had the standard FarCry setting, which most of the other planets were choosing. All in all, I would have liked to SEE Planet Total Recall and Planet Hollywood Monsters...just one or two hunts, some Lysterium mining. Nothing else. I mean, Total Recall could have fit very well into this already heavily messed up universe (detail & story anyone?), filled with diversity and FarCry planets. *yuk* Old Greece already was a very small step into an "interesting" direction...and failed...of course. You think it all worked out for the best ? I cant SEE the end of this horror trip yet and you think it all worked out for the best ?! Holy trioptimum ! For sure Im happy to SEE SEE leaving as well, but it feels like they got heavily mistreated and I dont really understand how Neverdie can still cultivate the "friendship" to MA. I mean, it wasnt only SEE that got fired. It was the whole FPC division ! o_O Millions of MJ fans would have created an account, fullfilling Klas Moreaus goal btw.(!) (trolololol)Sweating zombies and street gangsters...wait, we have Rocktropia for that already. And for sure millions of MJ fans would have left shortly after exploring. As there would have been nothing to explore, except for empty buildings, that cant be entered. SEE what I mean ?
For what it's worth, from the brief contact I had with Mr. Moreau, he seemed to have more professionalism in his pinky than the rest of MA Management combined. After the news about his hiring was announced, I contacted him through LinkedIn and got prompt, nice and courteous replies. And then he apparently was ordered to tell me all future communication should be looped through Simmonds. I bet hardly anyone somehow signing up with MA knows the full extent of what they end up with. Be it PPs, players, or employees. If MA was half as good at coding and developing games as they are at polishing turds, we'd be playing their game instead of writing on forums.
I got shut down by Simmonds too - can't talk to anyone at MA without going through him first and getting the ok. And since he committed to doing an interview with me last year and never followed up on it, even after emails that he never responded to, he can talk to himself.
I was not a 100% sure but it seems all the images displayed in this article were made by Neverdie Studios for SEE Virtual Worlds, which I added to the article as well.
haha! How about ask me "Jon, why did u want to bring Michael Jackson to the Entropia Universe platform?" Well because I have been developing the concept for a monetized Dance battle system since I launched Club NEVERDIE in 2005. Working with Michael Jackson would have been the perfect way to introduce the System to the platform and thus provide something besides hunting gathering and manufacturing for people to engage in, that might appeal to people on a more social level... As it currently stands this platform has been hunting centric for ten years and we have to compete with all the big games for that demographic of gamer... What have we done to really appeal to more creative people, like the users of second life or to women? I know that alot of existing calypso players are only interested in Sci Fi, etc, but Entropia Universe wants to be a PLATFORM like the Iphone, Iphone doesnt only have killing games... The Universe should have Diversity and IP to appeal to alot of different markets... then Perhaps you want to say to me.. Jon what did it mean to you to Work on something as important as a Michael Jackson experience? And then I would have to say.. it was incredible. the Biggest deal of my Life. A dream Come true, I respect the MJ estate immensely and I felt honored to be entrusted with MJ's legacy, We busted our asses to develop content that would do justice to Michael's Memory and prove that Entropia could be a great platform. I was so Proud of my team, on a personal level I felt like I was channeling Michael every day, I really didn't want to let him down.... Look at the Screenshots.. Aren't they fantastic?.. I had to move my whole operation to a 6,000 Square foot Studio on Hollywood Blvd to set the Stage for it, especially since I was Juggling Rocktropia and Next Island at the same time. Then You might say? When did you and SEE Part company? After we completed the Production on the MJ stuff that you have seen, I realized that I need to work directly with the Studios or the Artists if I'm going to do this kind of work, I put my heart into it and I ask my team to put their hearts into it. Its just too complicated when there are too many middle men, kills the passion and the technical Challenges need to be respected... And at the end of the day life is too short. If you don't respect what's at the heart of a Project you will watch it wither and die, clearly that's what happened with a couple of our endeavours once we were no longer involved... Pioneering Virtual Reality is a Labor of Love as you all know so well. Now the Big Question on my mind is... I there going to be any support from the Existing user base as NEVERDIE Studios does its best to bring another Giant Royal IP to the platform? We need more players on the platform and to do that We need more exciting Attractions... I know we need to fix bugs and the local economy, but without new players and activity, its not going to happen anytime soon on ROCKtropia... We have to balance growth with fixes... We are simply past the point of just trying to fix, we must grow and fix.
Thanx for the interesting reply there Jon. Dance battle system, sounds interesting and would indeed fit planet MJ perfectly. I can imagine some kind of dance battle where you buy a ticked and compete against another player for the prize money ? Not sure if I would have liked a MJ planet myself to be honest, but I do think that there should be room for such a place as there are people all over the world that would play that and more people in EU is good for everybody. I'm sure it is very hard to be working on something you love so much only to have a dream shattered by something you have no control over and it seems to have happened to you twice now. A new Giant Royal IP, that is interesting, are you talking about that new movie deal, or is there something else? Don't know if the player base will support a new IP, I think it all depends on the IP and what you do with it. The question that's more important I believe is will that IP bring in lots of new players as I'm sure old players will visit, but as you said we need more new players.
MindArk, "The Dawn of a New Error"... Ladies and gentlemen, love has left the building... Dont forget about this concrete wall, called MindArk.
Loved that article. Its great for new players like me to read some of EU history and at the same time take a peek on future plans as well. That dance system-battle sounds very intresting to me
Awesome article Razor, and nice to see ND here, this is becoming my 'go to' forum. (Insomuch as I go to any forums much, which I don't, usually have to drag me to forums kicking and screaming, and hey McC was pretty funny, and hello Softy, MS9, enjoyed reading this, more coffee anyone?) -insert incredibly awesome banner here-
