Is there a page with basic introductions to each planet and what is special to each? I've looked at sites like the EP wiki but it is very much outdated. I heard Next Island was made focusing on noobs and adventure. But then obviously Calypso is probably best for noobs since they can get ahold of a huge player base for help and socs. I do know the very obvious like Rocktropia based around the music/movie industry and has more missions and is probably next popular to Calypso. Next Island has special "time travel" themes where you can visit many areas in time. As for Arkadia, I have not a damn clue what that planet has in store. I've been playing EU about a few months starting on Claypso, but I've recently flew over to RT for the Hunt the THING missions. Now I'm trying to decide whether to stay on RT and spend my PEDs there, or go back to Caly... or any other planets... Just want a little info for each planet like theme, noob friendliness, special features, population etc. If you've been to any planet, what are your opinions on them and why do you like/dislike it?
Yep, that's indeed needed. Maybe some veterans can write a little paragraph about their favourite planet(s) and then we go and wikify everything. A very basic and outdated page is availabe already: http://www.entropiaplanets.com/wiki/Entropia_Universe_Planets Please help everyone to make decisions for rather new players easier and maybe even save them money. So what would be good to learn something about is: Setting Population Newbie-friendliness Missions Special features etc
Ah, that would be a very helpful page... if most of the items were filled out. :P Yeah i like to wikibuild when I have the spare time, and unfortunately I'm not too knowledgeable about the planets. What we can do is get people who favor one planet to fill in the blanks one at a time. No need to be knowledgeable in all aspects or multiple planets. I love Calypso. The cities needs to... well look more like cities instead of just a TP and outpost, but its a cool planet. RT has a pretty interesting setting... especially the starter area. Reminds me of Grand Theft Auto or something but didn't get to do much there.
I will do little write up for Next Island Setting: Tropical Paradise Population: Scarce atm Newbie Friendliness: Very friendly if you find an area where ppl are Missions: A few basic ones atm Special Features: Time Travel to Ancient Greece Of all the planets online right now this one is my favorite, I love the look and the laid back feeling of the island. There is still much work to be done, and unfortunately my patience has worn out waiting for things to happen. I have therefore left and have gone back to Caly, which isn't saying much because I haven't signed in to play since then. I still have hopes for Next Island and when there is enough content to play I plan on returning, but I can't say if I will still make it my home with all the exciting things I see with some of the other planets that are coming online.
4 votes for Arkadia... no post about it? :( I've been hearing very nice things about Ark today on my soc channel. I'm hoping to get a bit more info on it. I hear the economy is getting quite a bit better?
Hmm that is strange no one has posted anything about Arkadia, guess ill post what I know. Setting : Treasure Hunting (currently does not have treasure hunting implemented yet). Has a variety of terrain from snow, desert and grass with a modern theme. Population : small, but growing steadily. Newbie-friendliness : Has a nice set up for beginning players to get information about the ingame tools and setting and a few beginning quest to do. The places where mob are located are extremely well thought out with the low level ones close to the starting bases and as your explore you find much stronger mob. Missions: Currently does not have many missions, the only notable one would be the oro mission with 5 stages, but reward is not as good for 12k oro compared to the 10k missions done on Calypso. More missions have been confirmed to be added on 29th Nov. Special Feature: Treasure Hunting (currently does not have treasure hunting implemented yet). In my opinion Arkadia feels fresh after being on Calypso for such a long time, the mob are designed well, the developers listen and communicate to the players and the look and feel of it just feels much more natural than other planets. Due to the small population the economy is not great, which there is a lack of traders and auction items do not sell as quick (or at all), but with the player base growing it should be better. Arkadia has put a lot of effort into attracting players with events that give awesome prizes, which I think impresses me because other planets do not do this much. From the description I’ve given above tells you that Arkadia is not as complete as other planets, but I think what wins the players over is the way they involve the player with good communication and interesting events.
Meanwhile I re-worked the comparison table on the wiki a little bit and added it to the EU Guide, there it is: Choosing a Planet to start on I also added a row called "Opinions" to add links to posts in this thread like to ones of Softhart and db123189. Would be cool to have more, actually as many as possible for each planet. We might end up with something that will be really helpful for new players. Btw, every contributor to the EU guide will be listed there forever: http://www.entropiaplanets.com/wiki/Entropia_Universe_Guide#Contributors ;)
In December The Thing is getting replaces with something else... and Rocktropia itself is possibly getting a makeover. Some theorize that the new Thing will be something straight out of a Quentin Tarantino type movie world since the name of some recently released items have names with ties to Grindhouse movie and it's spinoff Machete Kills. Not sure if that's what's happening or if the tie in is to a new movie that will be coming in the near future since ND is talking in circles about apocolypse world?
From a new person's perspective, I have tried two of the planets starting out: Calypso and Arkadia. Of the two, I found that Arkadia may be easier to start on mostly due to the location of mobs, and the sheer number of start locations. Arkadia is divided up into a number of Firebases and Firebase Academies. Each of the Firebase Academies located throughout Arkadia contains starting missions separate from the missions players that begin on Arkadia will go through. Players that come from another planet will find that the Firebase Academy missions will get them well grounded in the basics of how to play if they did not learn on their home world where they signed up to Entropia. The mobs look completely different on Arkadia and are located in appropriate places in some cases right outside the academies, but the puny mobs are relatively easy to kill. They start out at level 4 puny possibly requiring a couple of more shots which is a bit beyond where they start on Calypso meaning you may get greater skill gains from the slightly stronger mobs if I'm not mistaken assuming you do the iron missions available. I did not finish the iron mission for the puny mobs on Arkadia, but had completed half of the 5000 kill carabok stage, a level 4 mob. Another reason it may be easier to kill the mobs on Arkadia is that among the mobs on Calypso I found a number of snableshot roaming around some of which were rather strong. Not to mention I never ran into level 0 mobs on Arkadia as on Calypso. That doesn't mean there aren't any there. It just means I didn't see them, or don't remember seeing them. While it is true that the starting area for Calypso, which has changed since I started, has level 0 mobs, as soon as you get over to Port Atlantis you end up dealing with the snableshot in among the puny mobs. I appreciated the community on Arkadia as well. They were very helpful folks who all huddled, in general, around an area called the Celeste Quarry. Finding the quarry is very easy, and isn't that far off the beating track from the city of Celeste Harbor, also near the starting area. As a matter of fact, the starting area leads you right into Celeste Harbor at one point. So my overall opinion of Arkadia compared to Calypso was that it was easier to start there had that been where I created my account. I even went through the same introductory missions the noobs go through since they offer some handouts along with them, but I discovered that I may as well have bought any weapons and armor they gave me because, I wasn't supposed to get them for free since I was given some items on Calypso. They gave me the items, but they all had to be repaired which means I may as well have bought them new. The repair cost is equal to the cost of a new one. So I agree with others who tell you to choose your starting planet wisely.
Posted the above as an opinion, but didn't know how to attach it to the chart under opinions. You can either use it or not. It's up to you guys.
Yes. It was an opinion about Arkadia I had in mind. I agree with HoloSquad as far as the fact that there is still quite a bit of development needed on Arkadia. The smaller area to cover may be an advantage or not depending on how you look at it. I didn't find the small area to cover a disadvantage as far as a noob goes. It actually helped me out. If you print out the TP list for Calypso there are a much larger number of TPs to add to your map which means you have a lot of traveling to do. I really look forward to seeing what else the developers have in mind for Arkadia. Currently there is just the one continent, so there is a lot of room for improvement. I think Calyspo has twice as many TPs at least as Arkadia.
