Not surprised to see not much has changed with the way neomaven runs his forum... I too was banned many years ago for saying the word "neovixen" :)) And that's when I joined Entropia Reality , ahh good old times hehe. I agree with many posts here but I wanted to add something: sure, it is ok to make your own rules when you have a private forum and expect people to obey them and if not to have the freedom to remove them but... and this is what my point is: when a place gets very popular and becomes a great community, then rules change. You as the owner have a responsibility to treat everyone fairly exactly because you have the power over too many people in one place. And if yours is the place to go in all aspects of the gameplay then you have to make sure everyone is treated fairly and equally, otherwise you enforce dictatorship and that's when people start to rebel. Neomaven has shot himself in the foot many times about this over the years and because of that many online pages about his wrong doings were born that connect his RL name to all sorts of dodgy stuff. Sure, if u don't like a place and the way it is run you are always free to leave, but what happens when there's nowhere else to go? Glad Entropia Planets has taken shape nicely so far and it shows a lot of promise in this respect. Now it's up to its members to promote it ingame I guess
You are probably one of the folks that caused the neovixen filter on pcf, That lovely 'curse word filter' now works on entropiareality, and somehow both of my blogs lol - entropiarelated.wordpress.com and entropiatrash.wordpress.com ended up on the filter (I use shortlinks to bypass filter at the moment but if those stop working we'll see what I can do about that). It would not surprise me to see ep join the filtered list before long... p.s. Sorry to hear about your harassment by Hardrath from a few years back. http://www.planetcalypsoforum.com/f...-Rogue-General&p=618013&viewfull=1#post618013 Sad that MA let him continue to be in game when above link is a direct admission to use of multiple avatars and handing old avatars over to others, etc.
tehee so you're responsible for those blogs :) Been browsing a bit of them and got melancholic lol Aah, that was a lot time ago with Hardwrath, too long lol, I feel so old :D Tbh there's nothing to be sorry about, it was entertaining, besides, I do feel sorry for the poor soul that tries to bully me lol. And I was quite the spitfire at the time :D When I look back at some of my posts from back then, I can't believe myself, I guess I was listening way too much Manowar and it was getting to me :D PS: don't let me derail the thread with old times stories lol but I think demoniac still has a copy somwehere of the thread that started the whole neovixen stuff and began the filters down at PCF :)
Yeah I still have a copy - made me chuckle reading it again :) On topic - I agree with pretty much everything said here. Of course people should show a certain level of respect and civility. If they fail to do so then they are themselves to blame for the need for moderation. The real problem in the past was the unfair and hypocritical way in which the forum was moderated to suit the needs of Neovixen and his buddies. It's not hard to guess which threads there have mysteriously disappeared into the void (the 'Heros' one about neovixen, 'A most disturbing scam'...). I do think if you buy a forum that has become the heart of the community you have some moral obligation to serve that community. It was sad to see so many old names getting banned just for honestly speaking their minds while others had their misdeeds hidden or erased from history altogether.
I think the amount of times moderation happened here this year can be counted on the fingers of one hand. I don't see that changing any time soon. The rules were constructed with free speech in mind, and as long as I have any say in it, that will remain the case. We have tried very hard to do exactly that. You and I had our differences in the past, but I'd like to think that we never gave you any cause to feel you were treated differently than anyone else here on EP.
Ofc not, when I wrote that post I had PCF/old EF in mind and definitely not this forum. I may not have been very active since I started my account here, but I genuinely think you're doing a good job.
OK I wasn't going to say anything but yes I have to admit I did have a private chuckle to myself about this too. But honestly those days are a long time ago and I'm not one to go dredging up the past. We all moved on. That said I want to agree with Konve (who set up EF iirc? before selling it to an "unknown party" - I was "concerned" about that from the outset I seem to recall). When I joined Project Entropia in 2004 the "IT girl" of the forum world was Entropia Pioneers. This was set up by the Entropia Pioneers society as they were one of the first socs and had the idea to start a forum. That was before my time though so I don't know how EntropiaPioneers forum got started. Anyhow EntropiaPioneers forum eventually got too popular, and became a moan hub. Then came along EF, which was a sanctum for everyone who had had enough, For a while, it was nice but then everyone came and EP became a ghost town and was eventually lost to history. It currently resides in a cardboard box I believe. Then we had e-pec and its various guises that followed as well as EntropiaReality which became the sanctums from EF and all the moaning and over zealous moderation imposed on it by its owner and his staff. I HAD noticed a gradual oh so gradual repeat of history happening with Entropia Planets this year though. People are starting to move away from PCF and come here cause its nicer. This is good cause personally I see it as a bit of an "oldies" hangout. Where folks like myself who have been around a while come to relax. Having new blood keeps things interesting. But yes. Eventually, if nothing else shows up, Entropia Planets will become like all the other main forums. Its inevitable I think. The only thing that might save it is the diversity we have now. There are a lot of other choices still not to mention the planet dedicated forums. If you have not had enough of me talking about forums yet can I point you in the direction of my Calypso Post article on the subject?
