Since we don't seem to have a "AOB" forum I'm pretending this is a game. The game is to identify the film. When I was a kid in the 80s (I think) I saw this film and I can't remember what it was. Its been bugging me for years now. All I can remember is this: It was some sort of fantasy film I guess, a medieval type thing. The "hero" is this guy who has a massive cloak. I can't remember what was so special about it except that it would unfold to be huge (ie to cover a floor area) and there was something on it. Can't remember what though. Anyhow at some point this guy and a girl I think get bricked up in a tower. ie jailed never to be released. I remember the film so vividly (or this bit of it) cause I found the bricking up bit really scary. I think some time goes by and there is some depression, hunger etc. I think the guy shows the girl his massive cloak at some stage. Anyhow they can go up to the roof but that doesn't help cause its a long way down. They then hit on the idea of cutting the cloak up and building a wooden frame to form a hang glider of sorts. This is how they escape. I've tried all kinds of searching for this many times but had no luck. I'm guessing its an 80's fantasy kids film, wouldn't surprise me if it was some weird Australian thing either (often it seems the weird stuff came from there). So, any ideas? Wistrel
'The story of the Voyages' made in Russian in 1983 Been looking for a long time and finally found it.
Tim I love you!!! You are my frikkin' hero of the decade!!! =D =D =D =D 47 mins in is the scene I described! The Story of Voyages, also translated as A Fairy Tale of Wanderings is a 1983 Soviet Russian fantasy film directed by Alexander Mitta and starring Andrei Mironov. Wikipedia Initial release: September 5, 1983 I'm really looking forward to watching it again now when I have some time.
No problem. Iv been looking for a few years and you looking as well came up in a search. I just happened to chance upon it. The scene you described was the only part I saw of the film years ago. I'm sure when I saw it it was in English so there must be an English dub out the somewhere.
Yeh! I thought I saw it in English too! Mainly because somehow I can't imagine that at that age I would have watched a foreign film and read subtitles happily. Maybe I need to do a little more digging now I know where to dig that is, thanks to you :D
I'm just glad you were looking for it too or I would of thought I imagined the whole thing as nothing seemed to come up in searches. Iv already ordered it off amazon
