Gamasutra released the 2014 version of gaming news in the Guinness book of World Records. Listing such recent achievements as the Largest video game collection (10,607 if you're looking to beat that), and the Fastest Game to Gross $1 Billion (GTA V, in 3 days), Entropia Universe is also mentioned in reference to the banking licenses:

It will be cool to shop in the mall with Entropia Debit Card directly getting peds from my acount and converting them in real money :)

i thought MA handed the Mind Bank license back to the Swedish government as it all fell apart?

I know the whole ped card thing was stillborn.

I'm not sure the banking license was ever returned. IIRC the idea to start "MindBank" was shelved indefinitely, and they simply chose not to look for renewing the license at the time.

Again, that info is only as good as my memory, which, granted, is not that great. It's very possible I stand to be corrected :)

Yes it was just put on hold until the economy and the game was doing better.

  9. I had this impression as well and most of the in-game banks were not operating for years.

Much like, "anything noteworthy at all since the avatar patch", MindBank didn't happen.

Those banks are mostly just glorified pawnshops, and had nothing to do with MindBank. MindBank was MA's project where they wanted to start offering loans in PEDs to players.

How a company with such obvious holes in their release tests and general QA systems would ever be granted a banking license makes me think I'll keep whatever money I ever manage to generate as far from Swedish banks as humanly possible :p

  12. Isn't one of the investors or something like that a bank in S.America. I read this somewhere...

Switzerland if I'm not mistaking. They backed MA from very early on, and I believe it was them that gave Jan the extra votes he needed to not be dismissed as the CEO.

Or do you mean Bridge Investment Group? They're based in Belise (IIRC). Prolly just a tax measure, and not where they are actually located.

  14. Must be the one in Switzerland, don't know where I got S.America from :p Anyway, having a bank as one of the early investors may have been a factor in MA acquiring banking licences.
