EU sanctions against Russia

So, you all most likely heard whats going on in the Ukraine and Russia and even though there is a cease fire now between the 2 countries there is something I have been wondering for a while. Lets imagine that the treaty does not hold and the fighting starts again, what will the EU do then. They will probably add more sanctions to the ones already in place and one of the sanctions possible is a full blown ban on trade with Russia (like the US has with Cuba). I can't help to wonder what that will do with the game. MindArk is doing trade with all of us when they take our money and even when we shoot a gun and have it decay we actually do some business with MindArk.

So, will we see Russians being banned/locked from the game once trade sanctions get put in place?

Do not discuss the political issues in here. We all have our views on the situation, but that is not to be discussed in here, keep it with the consequences to the game.

As a person playing a Russian Developed Game, Host in Germany, and living in America... This has been a conversation for a while for us.....

yep will have some implications for Afterworld as well I suppose

  4. What has MA done in the past with trade bans? My guess here is that MA will do nothing more since they can't really do anything with the current system in place. If anything the users would have to be on a temp ban. But again way to much work on MA's part to go through each and every account manually.

Also since this isn't all that big of a game there wouldn't be all that much effect I would think and MA would just over look this until forced to do something?

Edit: But a good source to get any good answer to this would be to pass this question onto the A-Team.

The sanctions are defined for several special industrial and monetary branches. No need to fear about this little game. The EU will not hurt EU ;-)

Not yet Jamira, as it are indeed specific industries, BUT if shit keep hitting the fan over there and 'real' trade sanctions will be in place (like the US has against Cuba) what will happen then. I mean, do you have any idea what the penalty is for buying or selling Cuban cigars in the USA?

OK here is a question... if I hosted a website in america... lets say oh I dunno, something like ped2click? Would I be obliged to somehow block Cuban IP addresses?

I'm fairly certain this sort of thing would only apply where physical things are actually being delivered to physical addresses or, as Jamira said, certain financial services

from my knowledge my websites are not in any way blocked for Cubans when I used a American host. But do know that there is always someone listening, so I moved my sites to Germany. But from people I know who have been to cuba, they say the percentage of internet laden people is less then 1%, for the most part only in the capital would anyone even consider it. For the most part phone service out of the capital at most hotels isn't even available. The do stuff the old fashioned way.. they use land lines and modems if they are do get there.

as for Cuban cigars actually it isn't as nearly as bad of a thing as it was 20 years ago. Sure you can't buy them here but they are around. go to Mexico or Canada and just bring them back with ya (Via car) and nobody will bother you. We also bring back Canadian beer btw which is not exactly legal...

I think there is a difference with hosting a website that provides a service (pretty sure we at EP do not have to block any IP's from Russia) and getting money to provide a service (when it become trade).

And the financial services is an interesting one, what would have happened IF MindArk actually got that MindBank thing of the ground a few years back, would that have changed things?

Well, that would just mean that Russia will be spying on us instead of the USA and to be honest I'm not a 100% sure which one I think is scarier. I'm also pretty sure we would not be using the Russian internet much (at all). Seems to me if it happens is will be a separate network, like the TOR network for instance. No need to go there at all.

I really don't care about consequences of possible future internet restrictions. What I do care for is that it'll become probably a damned RL-war again in Europe! I'm not sure, if the west knows or can imagine how Vladimir Putin ticks. So I suspect they, the USA and the members of Europiean Union (NATO), act like blind fighters atm.

We have had really, really enough wars in Europe during the last 250 years! And we had a time of peace of nearly 70 years after WW2 here meanwhile (Okay, Kosovo 1999 ... but it was a local conflict only). I am not sure if our current governments are prepaired for a battle with a new "Fuerer". Remember how it went, when France and especially Mister Chamberlain from GB started the "policy of appeasement" in 1938. Hitler got a charter to start with his plans to conquer the world. I don't want to compare Putin to Hitler. I want to say: those guys are unpredictable.

And that's my fear atm. Not if Entropia Universe will be affected by current conflicts and restrictions, not if the internet will be affected. Crazy times, even ... again.

P.S. Better live in crazy than in boaring times? The other side of the coin ;-)

Like the catholic church in the 3rd Reich in Germany during the 30th? LOL! Everything that belongs to the communnity is directly connected to the political issues around us.

Your pretty nice online-game (Entropia Universe) would immediately vanish if it comes to to war in Europe (MA sits in Sweden, a small and relative unimportant country = consequences to the game). Don't start political threads if you don't want political debates!
I still can't barely understand how folks, like you Razer, can ignore this simple issue. You must be from USA than, right? ... or Mars ... wich is the same, I am afraid ...
