Developer Notes #9 - Version Update 15.0 Preview Taming As announced in an earlier Buzz article, Version Update 15.0 brings Taming back to Entropia Universe. In this first phase, each planet will feature one low-level tamable creature: Arkadia - Nusul Puny Calypso - Bristlehog Puny Cyrene - Young Arret Rocktropia - Panther Puny Toulan - Tabtab Puny Existing pets work as they did in the old taming system, though those types of creatures cannot currently be tamed. Additional tamable creatures will be added in future Version Updates. Shrapnel Right click menu of Shrapnel in inventory Shrapnel, a new stackable resource, will be introduced to hunting loot in VU 15.0. All creatures on all planets will drop this new resource as a symbolic representation of salvaged battle debris, regardless of the type of weapon(s) used to defeat the creature. Shrapnel will replace a portion of the total loot value formerly dropped in the form of ammo, animal oils, tier components, paint cans, etc. Shrapnel is not used as a crafting component; instead, Shrapnel can be can converted to Universal Ammo at a ratio of 100:101, or sold to the Trade Terminal at face value. Looted Stackables The first phase of an effort to improve the distribution of looted stackable resources will be implemented in VU 15.0, starting with a majority of Planet Calypso creatures. Veteran participants will recall how several years ago most types of looted stackables could only be looted from particular creatures. The benefit of returning to that method of distribution is a reduction in the number of different items looted in a particular hunting session, as well as more a more interesting hunting experience that allows hunters to leverage wisdom gained from previous hunts. Loots for creatures on other planets will be adjusted in the upcoming partner releases after 15.0. Source All developer notes: Developer Notes
> Well who's for a trip to Toulan Rocktropia or Cyrene then? ;) Nah seriously - I'm a little confused how this is vu 15... doesn't seem so major to me. The ability to tame a small set of creatures and a change to loot distribution. We'll probably find taming is prohibitively expensive anyhow so most can't do it it. Plus there will likely be some related lootable item that never loots reminiscent of the creature control pills meaning the system is restricted to just a handful of participants, which would make it another waste of time. Still the change in loot distribution/reduction in number of different items. DOES sound like a good idea. I remember RexDaemon has been saying that needs to happen for years now. I don't think I really understand the shrapnel idea... I guess it helps with calculated hunts? ie I want to budget 100ped on a hunt. I now know that I won't loot any more ammo meaning my hunt time really will be fixed. Well, a change is as good as a holiday as they say
I'll be looking to get a Nusul (for the cuteness factor) and an Arret (as it does look pretty awesome). Tamers take note so I can place an order now please?
Nusul is a good choice. Will make me travel to Arkadia once again. :) Then everyone will have a Nusul. xP -But all Puny ? What for ? To continue skilling up and up and up and up ? For a loOoOong time ? To be able sell hundreds of Puny(L)-Whips ? Which only "others" can craft ? -Bristlehog ? Wow...not... -Shrapnels = 2004 PED alternative ? -Loot adjustment³ ? -Call it VU 15 ? Lets SEE...
Fucking finally. The change in loot basically ensured that the value of every resource plummeted down to TT, as anything that was needed for crafting was available in abundance. Hopefully this will reduce the cost to play. *wipes a tear from his eyes* If this is Klas' doing, there might yet be hope at MA.
Part of me really wants to be optimistic....but there's still the side that doesn't believe anything MA say....the devil is always in the details with these fuckers...i'll believe it's all red roses and candy lollipops when i see it. Otherwise it's just more shit piled up on turd mountain. ;)
Puny because most whips currently out there will overkill... means mob will die before it's tamed = more loot coming in to MA's coffers... Really glad my viper whip is still working at the moment! :) Yes, though, I do agree... market for a puny tamed mob is probably not there really?... unless maybe it's a puny eomon or dragon or something big like that?... I do hope more crafted whips become available eventually... Wonder if Vixens or Bore-Em will be tameable eventually, lol... Shrapnel sounds like a way to get more ammo than TTing ammo, which sounds good on the surface, UNTIL you realize that the ammo you are trading in for is not TTable... so it's a catch 22 created to feed more peds in to MA's coffers.... somewhat similar to all of the 'freebies' on newbie missions that you can't TT and will just have to use to feed the loot system. It's NOT a PED Alternative... I'm sort of curious if they'll create more weapons that use this special type of ammo?... For those skilling up it sounds like a nice way to do things. For everyone else, it sounds like a waste... now for the big question - if muscle oil type stuff ain't gonna be looted in universal loots system wide - what damn mobs will carry it, and what will it cause the markup to go to? Will all these bps that I've upped QR on up to 100 now be useless since the ingredients for them will be 300000% when they used to be 101%? (sort of the reverse of what happened to BTAU a long while back...) I think Mindark does this type of loot change crap every few years just to make Entropedia and similar sites now have completely useless information, making the learning curve for n00bs go even higher than it should be, just to confuse the hell out of them, and drain their pedcard in the process. Overall these changes to loot system sound ok for hunters, but crap for crafters... because it'll create more of a monopoly on resources, especially if some really needed ingredient on a bp is only available on one LA where the dna for some certain mob is... and could be bad for hunters there too, if that LA owner realizes it and ups the hell out of taxes... all of which will go on behind the scenes, and not be realized by the general masses staring at auction history (more of that damn esoteric "insider trading if you prefer" learning curve...)
I feel you! This is just a awesome update for such a big company! Staying tuned for the new bugsssss :) Tame those F#ckers!
