Things from Planet Cyrene that were not on Cyrene thus far

As we know Cyrene's population will be moved to a completely new server area in the next VU. A dramatic change that is made in preparation for Cyrene's "hard launch" that so far was prevented by lack of crucial features. A lot of Cyrene's content that has been presented over the years has not been seen in game yet, but might be soon. Examples below.

    The Skylab?

    The inverted pyramid?

    Korok?
    [IMG] Venator?

    Stables, Bugs as pets?

    Terranix?

    Sargan?

    Volcano worm?

    Hover tank?

I'm hoping that with all of the changes with Cyrene, it begins to bring out more of the storyline, as well as the character development, and that Ed will follow through with intentions with regard to the evolution of the planet as it relates to the storyline as well.

It will be interesting to see if all of this goes according to original plan. I love the Sky Lab, and excited it's finally going live soon. I was writing storyline and character chronicles while on the writing team, and Ed's vision and events are engaging for this part of the planet. The Skylab storyline reveals a lot more, so I'm looking forward to seeing how it's delivered.

  3. Yes it's to bad that you didn't stay with the team for a bit longer to write the future story line of the planet. Most likely with the new system your old material you have written can't be used since they will need new material based on what the active player base on the planet does. If MA dd give Cyrene this needed system it will make for a very interesting future for Cyrene.

You could always try to get rehired? :rolleyes (2):

Thank you, but even with the physical changes, I am doubtful that Ed will forsake his original storyline, and I can see where it would fit nicely, especially with the development of characters and their involvement in specific events that over time evolve the planet.

The Cyrene storyline is still the most cohesive and vast of any of the planets, and I really hope that Ed follows through on what his plans were, because it's an immense complement to game-play and the participants really becoming engaged.

I truly love the storyline, and I would hate for Cyrene to become just a grinding environment without the richness of its history over thousands of years ... it's just that good.

  5. Again it will not and sorry to see you don't understand what the new system will be and why they needed you in the first place. With the new system going live they need good writers like you on the team to help with the evolving story line. One of the main reasons you were hired.

As a side-note ... I'm in the process of refining and organizing the Cyrene Covert Ops (5-part series) into a complete entity with graphics that may be able to be downloaded to a reader like Kindle, but not through Amazon, and at no charge.

It will be a reminder of how engaging the Cyrene storyline can be, and knowing there is SO much more, I'm really interested in seeing where Cyrene goes from here.

Perhaps I'll put this series at my new writing site under "Fiction" when I'm done as well, with full credit to Ed for sharing revealing storyline to me and letting me have at it with the Covert Ops addition that unveiled so much more about Cyrene and what was to come.

The Cyrene Skylab, the Imperium Fighter Jet, the Korok creature, the Fenris Power Armor and more all showed up in this series prior to the planet even being launched, so it will be interesting to see how they're implemented, because (again), I don't doubt that Ed will stay true to his storyline with maybe only a tweak here and there to enhance it.

I'm also hoping that the Boffins are eventually introduced, because Ed had special plans for these:

    BoffinFemale.jpg
    Female
    BoffinMale.jpg
    Male
These beauties were introduced in "Unfinished Business - Part 3" of the Covert Ops series, and I really want to see these and other things come to life on the planet through storyline.

Of all the planets (and I love Arkadia), Cyrene has the most engaging storyline of them all (not to mention incredibly massive), and I want to see all of the things Tass posted and more end up being a part of the Cyrene game-play.

BTW ... if I recall correctly, the Terranix creatures are boss mobs and will only spawn at the end of a major quest line. Also, the male boss must be killed before the female is able to be spawned, but I don't remember any other details. I don't think this quest line has been implemented as yet.

Well, like everything in Entropia (with the exception of a decent supply of creature control pills). We will see.

Obie and I went to Cyrene Saturday night and we started at the Skylab teleporter which we were able to access from the Cyrene SS (only other one available from the SS was the Supply Depot). After we explored the Skylab briefly because the only thing you can enter is the building with the terminals, we got into the Quad and Obie flew around the Skylab so I could get footage, and then Obie flew his Quad down and over the entire map of Cyrene so that we could collect the TP's.

I will be back sometime on Sunday to post a video if I can get it edited to a shorter version (it's 54 minutes long), and the news is not good. I had my graphics on High and switched to Very High so that everyone can see it in the video, and had Obie fly close to the ground and even land in places, and OMG. I'll just split the long video up into smaller videos so that you can see uncut and unedited footage.

My FRAPS on the Skylab was 85, and then when I started filming, it was 44 as we flew around the Skylab. My FRAPS on the planet itself remained at a steady 30, with the occasional drop to 26, and a couple of times to 17 when we were flying over a massive amount of Sky (something or other) Robots (we were pretty low).

You are not going to believe this video ... I know I didn't believe what I was seeing. The graphics are absolutely awful, and extremely pixelated ... Obie had the same thing, and we both have great PC's (he's an IT guy, a Server Administrator in his business with clients over 20 yrs, and builds computers, so he knows his stuff).

You can see the difference in the quality of the Quad in comparison to the land with the Quad sitting on the land, we waited to see if things would render differently, but it didn't. The terrain is comprised of pixelated small blocks, and the planet looks like it went through an apocalypse. The actual TP's and buildings rendered fine, but still no color (all tan and gray), but the land remained as we saw it.

I know that Cyrene downsized, but the quality is all gone, and so is anything beautiful that once was there. It's all hazy, minimal shades of what looks like green, and lots of gray, tan, and of course white in the ice region. When you see the video, you'll understand what I mean exactly.

There's no two ways about it, and if anyone has current photos from the planet after the change, please share them, because I just can't get past what we saw, and we were able to fly just fine. Like I said, I didn't have any issues with my graphics whatsoever, nor when we got back to Arkadia where everything was bright, colorful and beautiful. There was actually more lag on Arkadia than there was on Cyrene, and took a long time to render. I also did a video of the warp back to Arkadia so that you can see that I have no problem with my graphics whatsoever.

We went back to Arkadia immediately after we completed the run, instead of staying and exploring like we planned. We just couldn't bear to be in the environment after experiencing it as it was before. If the quality and graphics were the same, then it would have been different. The Skylab and the female and male Boffin NPCs in the terminal on the Skylab looked incredibly cartoony.

Somebody show me something different please, because I am absolutely heartbroken. :cry2:

BTW ... I recently upgraded my service to Verizon FiOS (fiber optics) with a much higher internet speed, so that helped a lot with my FRAPS, just as a side-note.

Where I'm at right now Harmony after Obie and I visited the planet Saturday night, I'm just beside myself, and I'm afraid I don't have any feeling of hope that we'll see what I learned way back when of what was to come for this planet. The storyline IS massive and awesome, but I'm doubting now whether we'll get to experience it in the way it was meant to be as the planet evolved.

I will still do the video so that there's a record of it, and BTW ... I checked the Cyrene forum to see if there were any photos or video there and nothing. It seems that some (perhaps newbies?) are talking in threads like nothing is wrong ... I don't get it.

And thanks Oz for confirming that I haven't lost my mind, or that Obie and I weren't in the twilight zone somewhere, although that's what it felt like. Thank you too for your private note.

I also discovered at the Cyrene forum that Lykke is not listed as the Community Manager anymore, and title was changed to "Well-Known Member" ... her last post was June 13th, so I guess she's not part of the C-Team either. I saw on FB though that she started a new job as a Community Manger for another game, so that could be why. Still, it raises yet another eyebrow.

  13. I think you can pretty much put Cyrene in the "dead planet" bin. The near dead homepage of the so called developers say it all, http://www.digitalscryers.com/
They are probably just a one man show today.

    Ah, sorry.

From their forum, I would say they are still very much in business and would venture to say they will be getting busier with hard launch soon.

They are probably more concerned with the forum and the game to worry about their website. Just my opinion

  17. I want to see MS9 video. I took a small clip from my stream just to show a little of what happened..but for once I would like to see what MS9 has to show us. It's all very sad. I'm here on Arkadia now but only came here to stay a bit while we waited for Cyrene. But now it looks like Arkadia will be my home for IGL.

Edit: and it was here on this very thread that I was fully backing Cyrene before this update. :(

    MindStar9 Floating in Space

My original intention was to post the video, or in this case, it would be several videos to get the full footage of what I was able to capture, but hesitated as a result of being launched into orbit myself (I know that's cryptic, but truth), and gave myself a couple of days to see if others would either confirm my report, or post contrary video or photos that possibly might mean we weren't seeing what we were seeing.

However, I find it strange that no one here or elsewhere has come forth with any of their own reports, other than you Oz, and also find it strange that things at the Cyrene forum with regard to chat about the planet (other than bug reports from the VU and patch) seem to be status quo.

So, I revisited all the evidence surrounding our trip to Cyrene, including computer setup, graphics, our activities on Cyrene with regard to showing in the video how my graphics were on High and changed to Very High, and landing on the ground several times in different areas to see if rendering were different ... it wasn't.

I will take the time tomorrow, or maybe later this evening to work with the video (meaning: separate the video into watchable lengths UNCUT or EDITED) and post it here as soon as possible so that everyone can see exactly what was seen and experienced.

I also find it interesting that in today's Patch Notes from Kris, that he said ...

    "Known Issues
    - The frame rates in some areas of Cyrene are currently too high, as well as some of the graphics are not up to a standard that we would like. This is something that we plan to dedicate time and effort into to make sure that Cyrene is beautiful and runs much more smoothly."

So this tells me that there are real issues, and you will see my results soon.

Serious folks! Is it a task of framerates and rendering issues? I would give a shit on all this appeareance issues, if I could get back a nice community and a community-friendly game. I got a glimpse of this last weekend at WoF-judging. But that allone is not enough. Tbh - I am not interested in several dubious additional worlds (except Next Island with it's timetravel concept). Once I was interested into meeting folks at Fort Argus. Does anyone else here remember the social aspect of this place? Okay, I don't want to be a troll. Enjoy this new game! Probably you will become smart enough to play it for low costs (at reasonable framerates).
