As a crafter I must say, I LOVE the new autocrafting. It is easy and fast - and you can browse the internet at the same time I'm amazed it took so long time before it was introduced though. What I like is, that you can put it on auto, but just as fast stop it again. While it crafts you can slide the condition bar to the sites or look at items in inventory etc. The crafting material is now fixed in the window and doesn't move around anymore (must have been a former bug). I really think the new system is a good move. Next would be nice, if you could auto-shoot and auto-extract when mining aswell (just to ballance things up a little ;) ) But so far - indeed nice! (oh and my guess is, MA found out that the other 'new' system made them loose their @sses of, because it was stinking annoying and a lot of people stoped crafting when auto clicking wasn't possible).
As a fervent anti AC campaigner, I am very happy to see this feature available in game, where it belongs. The crafting process has been the only remotely reasonable argument in favour of AC use, so now that it is in the game for that, there is one less excuse for the hard-core AC exploiters to hide behind. MA took their time, but this time they got it right, so props to them.
You know, I have not, but if I do, I'm willing to put in the clicks. I really don't get the frenzy to get things done. Even the crafting aspect was only a grey area from my perspective. I have always viewed the tedium of certain activities as part of the balancing, designed specifically to govern the pace of the game. Mining does have the benefit of improved extractors for bigger claims, but crafting had no equivalent mechanism for larger runs. Anyway, it's a well-worn debate, and unlikely to ever see consensus. I'm still happy to wear the tag "all my own work" on my avatar :)
This sounds pretty awesome (not been able to get back in game since vu10 yet ) Well done MA for implementing something like this
Good job for MA doing this. Will hear (read perhaps) less threads about finger problems from pure/big time crafters. :)
I would say it would caurse more finger damage to shoot a mob than to craft ;) (auto shooting for the world )
I'd say it would too. Blam blam blam, spin, blam blam blam, spin, repeat. Auto shooting, what a world it would be.
I think this Auto-Craft option lasts for 10 minutes only. Although MA is studying what would be the best duration for this feature, I don't think it will change much. I agree with you if you replace 'hunting bot' by 'Auto-firing' :)
It's not about being afk, it's about using something which isn't part of the game to do it. That was always the issue for me anyway. I have no problem with anyone utilising the game tools within the game rules. The games we play are nothing more than sets of rules which define the game. Once you break or defy any particular ruleset, then you are not playing the same game, so the competition is not fair. Imagine joining a poker table, placing your bet, then losing because "new rules" determine that a pair of deuces is the best hand and to hell with your royal flush. It's no problem if the rule is clear from the beginning, but it is a problem if it is used covertly to subvert your skill. Like most gamers, I understand that there is always somebody with better skills who may defeat me. All I have ever asked is that, if we compete, we all follow the same rules. I want to be beaten by a better player, not a better rulebreaker. I don't see any point to a game played any other way. So I don't care if they include an adaptive AI true hunting bot for hunters, as long as it is a a standard game option for all players, embedded in the game. It may, however, make me decide to play another game, because the entire point of network gaming is to allow me to compete against people. I can compete against bots in a million other games if I want to. If everybody is using bots, we may as well watch a movie because we sure as hell aren't playing against each other. We could get together once a year, throw our bank statements in a spreadsheet and let the one with the biggest balance take all the cash.
Okay, what is the RL equivalent of "deposit"? In a real universe there is no magical "off-world" source of income to bail us out when we hit bottom, so it isn't a clear parallel. All the examples you give are of items and features contained within the RL universe. It is exactly because I want the game to be a universe that I think it is important to adhere to the "physics" of the universe, or "the rules". ;)
