Just discovered this article and at first couldn't believe it - nearly dropped my cup of tea... Quoted from BBC's website: 'Online game gets banking licence Online game Entropia Universe has been granted a licence to be a bank.... More here - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7954629.stm
Interesting! It seems we get to see interest-bearing accounts in that bank too. That's something nice.. Nice of you to find it nexus7. Thanks a lot! :)
Mmmm - I've been wondering about the 'interest-bearing' aspect as well; such as, in what will MA be investing depositor's money, to generate the revenue to be able to pay any interest? In light of what's happened to the banking world in general lately, I can't think of anything that's safe. It's also strange that nothing yet is mentioned about this on FPC's home-page, although it is covered on MA's official site...
it boggles the mind why MA would want to be associated with banking right now. Perhaps this is a legal move to ensure they are complying with various country's laws when it comes down to transactions?
Agreed... Maybe this also tied-up some loose ends with the 'virtual banking licences' that were offered and sold to participants as well.
Ha, ha! This could get funny - lol. As I understand it, participants who bought the virtual banks (:D) gained virtual banking licences to be able to run and operate them in the realms of EU, but they wouldn't have had official 'real world' banking licences as they wouldn't have had real world bank status. I know that didn't mkae much sense...
All I know is my salary will not be paid into this bank, I would starve :D. However it does make me wonder if those with accounts and funds in them will have an advantage in game!
[...However it does make me wonder if those with accounts and funds in them will have an advantage in game![/quote] Never thought of that. If the interest rate is good enough I might have a go. If I start getting more loot first.
I wonder too if this is the solution they came up with for the cash cards bombing out - makes sense that if they're officially a bank they could run their own cards.
