Well, with all due respect to the parties involved...I've had enough of MA's abuse. Entropia is billed as "the only virtual reality with a real world economy." Do any of you personally know anyone who has managed to make any money within the Entropia reality? After becoming involved with Entropia, I brought two friends into the game. Between the three of us, we have deposited about $2500. The in-game economy is so rigidly controlled that there is no real vitality possible. Mindmark stands in the middle of every possible transaction to the extant that the entrauprenauer has no options to create new financial relationships between players. Please don't missunderstand; I didn't play Entropia to make money. However, Mindark is not bashful about promoting that aspect of the game, therefore I feel free to make these observations. Mindark has not been receptive to any of my suggestions. Neither will they be any more receptive to yours. I am not willing to deposit any more money to "build" any more skills to qualify myself to operate ever more expensive equipment in order to loot ever larger mobs in hopes of one day breaking even. Sitting at my computer and clicking away thousands of real-world dollars to "kill" these imaginary creatures is insane. By the way, Mindark expressed their gratitude to me for my $2500 contribution to their bottom line with a "mentoring gift" of a 6 ped pistol that needed repairs. I definitly feel screwed. After that sorry turn of events, I decided to pull up my pants and leave. Mindark ain't the only game in town in town...
Re: Dual Wield You are not the first to have thought of that. I'm pretty sure this is lingering at the back of everyone's mind... The most important thing is to enjoy yourself. If you cannot do this, then surely you must find another way. I, for example, have stopped playing EU. But I won't leave my friends here in this forum and I will return to EU just for the graphics update of the CryEngine 2 so as to explore and have some fun. I think I will see EU as an adventure game later on. ;)
Moved to General discussion. I don't think you're alone in feeling this way, and that the 'balance' of the game shifted away from the casual player a long time ago. I too hope that the cryengine update will bring back some of my love for EU... until then it's just a waiting game. And, if nothing changes even after cryengine? Well I don't want to think that way but hey I wouldn't want to lay down money on it. One of the last straws for me was when I was told for the 3rd time that I was responsible for 'getting my address wrong' so I couldn't get a gold card. finally I was told I could have one if I deposited again. I said I'm not depositing again until I get my gold card. Stalemate.
Yes, i do know people who have profited. Squall. Mines for a RL living. Mercury, Stoikow. Hunts for a living. Sarah (Trader). Started 2½ years ago with 10k ped, now owns Land Area, shop and loads of nice stuf.. Yes, it is possible, but hard. You gotta know what you are doing, and you gotta have fat wallet.
Oh I do know several people that are at least breaking even in here. Myself included, I have not needed to put in any money in almost 2 years now since my initial 500 PED or so deposit to get things going. And it's not like I'm only doing a little run here and there, I'm cycling at least 1k PEDs per day at the moment. So it is definitely possible to make money if you know what you are doing, it's not only something for the extremely high-skilled like Squall, Mercury and Stoikow that Anna mentions. However what is also worth to mention, it is of course designed so that the average player will lose PED in the long run, otherwise MA wouldn't be making any money themselves... This is a key element in this whole economy; you can't beat the house, you can't profit from TT value alone. This is where markup comes in and "taking" money from other players, not only playing against the house. I also think many are focusing too much on the result of each single run (each hunt, each crafting run, each mining trip and so on). It's not uncommon that I lose 500 PED on a 1k PED run for example. During the last year or two, the loot distribution has become way more fluctuating than before, resulting in the very big hofs that are coming up almost every day and at the same time quite bad short term returns for many others. But if you just keep track over a longer period I am sure you will see the return of TT spent is not that bad. I remember reading a test on EF that even showed a well above 90% return of TT value spent (not taking "passive" costs like armor decay and fapping into account) in a longer perspective. I have not tested anything like that myself but it makes sense.
It certainly is not like that for me Una :). I have had one big return and several smaller ones but I have been depoing about 1K ped a month sometimes more for about two years now (can't be sure as MA only shows the last twelve months) I have had to do this in order to keep playing, if I did not I would be sweating all the time and we all know how fascinating a passtime that is. I have not deposited since I got an 8K loot about the middle of February but funds from that are dwindeling fast I would hope it would last me until at least September but it does not look like it will unless I get another big one or a decent string of loots. Since the middle of March I have been recording the TT cost and return from each hunt, mining run and crafting session (of which there are not very many). The results do not look promising. I know the TT value is not the true value as mark up adds to both costs and returns. As I have had more free cash I have been playing more intensively than normal and have been spending between 1k and 1.5k a week on repairs and new blades, so I am not cycling trough as much PED as you but so far this has just ment that I have lost more than I normally would although the loss at the moment seems to be about 1.2K for April, can't remember the exact figures as opposed to about 1K. Very approximately the amount of PED I cycle through has increased by about 4 times but the loss has only increased by about 1.5 times. This is only one months results :). However if that trend continued I could see that the loss would decrease further. I am not sure I would be able to spend that much time playing though. :)
I dont care about losing or gaining peds whatsoever, i did that once and it resulted in me quitting EU, after awhile i realized EU is like going to the cinema (you dont get any cash back after the movie) , so for me its only a fun thing to do on your freetime, and usually you pay for those stuff, bowling is fun and costs money, well so does EU....thats my point of view on this and i can tell you ive never enjoyed playing as much as i do today :loco: (I know im crazy, haha) Im just paying what i believe is a fair amount for having fun, you shouldnt pay more then you think is enough and hope to get something Uber, probably not gone happen :hunter:
I agree with you, i love EU and im ready to pay for it, but the cost is getting bigger and bigger as MA is getting greedy
I dont think they are greedy ;) But that cryengine and the amount of work related to it, is most certainly not cheap, and thats probably what we are paying some for now.
Yes, they've been screwing around for a while... I just hope we get some kind of Pre-Cry Gift, maybe something like good looking clothing that doesn't decay... or something. However, MA isn't being greedy now, they're just editing the loot system. They're still making revenue from decays, it's just that they're giving out the loot, the wrong way. Instead of everybody getting 90%, some people get 3000%, while the others get 30%. This means more people deposit = Cry2 Develop Fees, I guess. Hope they'll fix things afterwards, but I really don't want to know what would happen if the Chinese took this place over.
Trade options are certainly restrictive. It's the very high markup that shop-stall/shop owners have to add to TT values (in an attempt to recoup the purchase cost), and the auction fees that always go up when ever you try and increase the profit margin, that ruins everything. This is why more and more ppl are resorting to private trade, which really doesn't work because it takes too long.
Re: Fed up of MA's abusesiveness :detective: Yes, they've been screwing around for quiet a while... www.entropiaforum.com/forums/1897107-post13.html
I wonder if there will be a bit 'extra' on the cry engine launch? Certainly they need to claw back on active membership, and try to keep them this time! It should make it an ideal time to play.
Not a truer word said... MA certainly needs to claw back on active embership. It boils-down to one thing, to even up the loot distribution - not to increase the overall loot given out (so MA doesn't lose anything), but just to even it up. As it is, some 'lucky ppl' are getting HOF's for say a berycled provider, which is not such a difficult mob with average skills, when the rest of us are getting say less then 70 ped for an atrox provider - a much more difficult mob. it is this aspect to me, that is not right... That all said, I still 'believe' in Entropia, otherwise I wouldn't still play, but it's getting more and more difficult.
