Planet Calypso News: Hussk Update

Discussion in 'Planet Calypso' started by EP-Newsbot, Jan 25, 2012.

  1. The Planet Calypso development team would like to apologize for the recent issues related to the Hussk quest. Our team is making a detailed review of the related game systems to determine the cause of the creature not providing loot in order to prevent such occurrences in the future.

Our initial investigation shows that the new Hussk creature was incorrectly designated to use the highest damage loot rights mechanic, rather than the shared loot mechanic intended for creatures with very high health. Unfortunately, the result of this was a failure of the creature to spawn any loot.

We are in the process of reviewing our log files to compile a list of affected participants. Compensation will be provided to the avatars affected by this issue, who will receive an amount of PED based on damage inflicted on the Hussk creature. In addition, the avatar who completed the quest to cause the Hussk creature to spawn will be reimbursed for all of the quest items required.

To prevent any further frustration, the Hussk quest has been disabled until we have completed our assessment and have conducted testing to ensure that the quest and shared loot systems operate as intended.

Once again we apologize for any frustration or inconvenience for those affected by this issue, and we appreciate your understanding and patience while we work to correct things.

    Sincerely,

    Planet Calypso Development Team

That sounds decent enough. Compensation and the return of all items required to spawn the thing. I hope this also means a precedent for whenever avatars are affected by bugs in the future.

    Great!

    - Communicated via a channel for everyone easily to access!
    - Admitted they messed it up!
    - Promised compensation!
    - Disabled the bugged feature to avoid further issues!

That's how professionals do it. Wasn't that hard, right?

From now on please do it like that each and every time please!

(And can we have something similar for beacons too?)
(And please test extensively before releasing!)

Lol, let me add that it is kind of disturbing to read all the great hymns of praise (incl. mine) they receive for this action that is actually completely ordinary and without any alternatives to be expected from professionals.

But yes, from where they are right now it is indeed a big step in the right direction that after a multitude of more steps might lead to establishing the reputation of being transparent, responsible-minded, customer-orientated, free from favouritism, ..., in one word: professional.

So here's a thought that just popped into my head.

There have been two times so far where a bug by MindArk was compensated:

    1) The one on Arkadia when MOBS there were not looting
    2) The Hussk

If I am not mistaking, both took place after Q2 2011.

    Discuss.

  9. Apparantly it took over 5000 peds to kill it, so a whacking US$500! Good to know though, that MA will compensate those that took part ;)

  11. Lord knows, but they should have guessed something was not right when they reached the 2000 PED/200 US$ mark and it was still well and truly 'alive and kicking'. According to another ctty site, there were tens of avatars going at it at the same time. I don't think they were using the right weapons either, or collectively the skill level was not high enough.

  12. You would think so but they might have been thinking, "finally something worth killing" :).

  13. Took way more than 5000 PED to kill that's for sure. It had 1.95 million HP and thus a very high HP regeneration (regeneration is a set % of full HP every x seconds). When I was there, it looked like well over 100 avatars of which a big part would be considered highend players. Not until several hours later when I had logged out the group had enough damage per second to beat the regeneration.

To inflict 1.95 million damage points costs around 6800 PED alone, not even taking regeneration into account. Some people I spoke to even reported above 400 PED spent each. If we assume there were 150 players (might very well have been more) which spent 150 PED in average, that would mean above 20k PED.

It was fun to see the community coming together cooperating like that. A shame the loot was bugged but good to see people will get refunded. A wise decision, has been quite massive uproar around forums about this lol

  14. Those are BIG statistics! If most of those 100+ AVs were highend players, then they must have known which wpns to use after all, and with such a high level of activity for several hours I'm sure all taking part have top-notch graphics cards as well :)

  15. Yes choice of weapons wasn't the issue, I'm sure everyone grabbed their biggest stuff to get as big share as possible from the likely epic loot. Did turn out to be epic, but not as expected lol

The Hussk was level 8420 btw. Got a screenshot but I don't seem to be able to upload pictures to this thread?

  16. Would be good to see a picture. Looks to me like the image upload is working, it is a bit different to the old days, should just be able to click on the image button (third from right in the Quick Reply editor) then follow the prompts! If that is what you have tried please let me know more details of the issue. Thanks.

  17. Yeah tried that, only allows linking to an already uploaded picture I think? Doesn't seem possible to upload and attach to the post.

  18. Hmmm! There should be two tabs on the top one for upload the other for linking? If not it is to do with attachment permissions which I do not have access to. I can only supply a URL in PMs. Would you try adding an image in another part of the forum just to see if you have the options, it may be because this is a News thread, I have added you to the Forum News Staff group, try it here too :).

  19. Now it works, was probably since it was in the news category yes, we had that discussion on forum a few years ago too I think. Everyone is not allowed to add attachments here.

    Anyhow here they are;

    hussk.jpg hussk2.jpg hussk3.jpg

At this moment we were a bit above 50 people iirc, still waiting for more people to join. I took part in one attack attempt before I had to leave again. I think they had done quite some attempts before too, it spawned like 2 hours before I got there.

Actually it was not particularly laggy, however as you can see I brought graphics down to Low to be safe.

  20. Awesome pictures Una, thanks for posting them.

You definitely deserve to be able to post to news sections so I will leave that setting in place :).

Would you know if there will be a Hussk II? Would like to see it for myself.
