Phase III: May I introduce Mena Oris, High Elf, blade artist

I wasn't sure until this evening if I should start a new thread about my 3D printing projects. Now I am!
Here comes Mena Oris:


Phase III means I will print a 1:2 scaled model (= 1 meter high in this case) with a pretty cheap printer (WANHAO Duplicator i3, ~$400).

 

It starts with a good, waterproof 3D model:

Since my printing volume is limited to ~ 150x150x150 mm I had to split the model. I will post the ongoing progress here.
For now I got 01:

66 g PLA, 5:35 h printing time

 

No. I got the model from my service partner. I am a mechanical engineer. I can do rectangular works only ;-)

 

Mena Oris 02:

In total 120 g PLA, 10:50 h so far

 

I like it as well. If it'll work as hoped the complete team of eight characters will sit together in a 1:2 scaled diorama with a small cute woodelf who is a reminiscence to Wistrel (kick ass elf):

For now let's try to build Mena. I had a lot of bad attempts during the past. I should bring at least one to a good end.

 

Ehrm wait ... probably it'll walk one day when folks start asking me to print other avatars on demand ;-)

I have still a statue of Jamira Atrox Slicer in mind. But MA pissed me of that bad, I'll need some time before I can start with it. Pretty sure btw. one day it'll happen. Nine years even ...

 

Mena Oris 03

In total 183 g PLA, 16:05 h so far

 

It is a solid 3D model. I slice it into smaller parts and cap them. So the pieces are solid again. The printing software makes them hollow. Wall thickness ~1 mm.


That's good for low printing time and saves material. The parts are steady enough this way. Keep in mind: we talk about a statue, not about a toy for kids.

 

Yep, she is.
This will not be a high quality figure. It'll be a low quality cheap one. But hey, she will be impressive!

 

Well, it should be dark blue and dark gold ... kinda. Dunno yet. But probably you are right: I will need a lot of color for ol' Mena. This is one of the next issues to test.
