    ComPet: Behind The Game

    #4 The Village

In this installment we’re going to take a closer look at The Village interface and the functions of the buildings.

    The Residence

In order to unlock new buildings and upgrade existing buildings to higher levels you must first upgrade the Residence to the required "Residence Level".

But it takes more than gold to upgrade the Residence! Constructing buildings, training pets and defeating Beasts (AI battles) are all activities required to upgrade this special building.

You can also assign ‘guard duty’ to pets in the Residence. This is the pet that other players battle if they raid your Village (raids occur offline - more on this later!).

    Stables

The place where your pets can rest. With each upgrade the maximum number of pets increases.

The stables are also where you can level up your pets, distributing your hard-earned experience points across Mojo, Health, Ferocity and Endurance. Levelling up costs gold and on higher levels it also costs pets.

The UI also shows how long it takes for your pet to fully recover. You can regain your pet’s health immediately by spending diamonds.

    Gold Mine

Gold is the currency used for buying buildings, pets and pet abilities. It also buys updates for your buildings.

The gold mine has an hourly income and a maximum capacity. This means you can earn gold merely by waiting for it to be excavated, but it takes time!

You can’t spend gold until you transfer the gold to the vault, at which point it will become visible on your ‘gold meter’ and can be spent. So don’t forget to empty the gold mine before it reaches maximum capacity, else all gold mining activity will stop!

    Vault

You can keep your gold in a vault. The higher the level of the vault, the higher the capacity and the more gold you can store!

    Gym

You can train your pets in the gym. Simply pay some gold and leave your pet in the gym so they gain experience points! Again, the process can be immediately completed by spending diamonds.

    Library

The library is where you research new abilities (the moves you use in battle). It costs gold to research a new ability.

Researchable abilities are organised into different tiers in the library. To unlock these tiers you must upgrade the library to the required tier level.

    Veterinarian

The veterinarian reduces the time it takes for a pet to recover from injury by increasing its health regeneration.

Stay tuned for the next installment of ComPet: Behind The Game!

Ehrm wait ... what is this? My little farm? Weren't we once colonists at far away planets in a future universe?
Is this still Entropia Universe? Or another silly browser game?

    Bad graphic again btw.

  3. As usual MA is always late to the party. 4 or 5 years ago they probably could have made some cash. I was just checking Zynga's financials last night after hearing they were shutting down Mafia Wars. Turns out they are turning off a lot of their Browser games to stop the bleeding before it gets critical. Their vision for the future is social gambling casino games for mobile...browser games are dying.

  4. So this is what happened:
management decided they wanted Ipads; because some sales rep consultant explained how much more productive they would be.
When the Ipads arrived, nobody in tech knew how to properly set them up; so they gave management all rights and company credit-card access.
They (management) first downloaded some office and other productivity apps; but soon realized that working on an Ipad is like driving an unicycle in the snow. Technically it is doable with skill and determination; but Friday came around. It was still hours till pub time, so they downloaded their first online game...
months and an overdrawn credit card latter they learned their lesson: crappy mobile games are addictive as heck, unlike that big dung pie EU had become.

So they took their favorite features from their games; put them on a white board and badly summarized them.
They assembled a team of their brightest coders together; handed over what they thought was a genius plan and send them off to build it.

Now, since any serious programmer, art director and otherwise non boring person had left the company; they all looked a young Jim. Young Jim, a junior coder; who just took the job because there was nothing much around Stockholm in terms of gaming companies, grew up with Pokemon and other Japanese crap.
With limited coding experience in Java and not an iota of narrative or graphical sense; he and a couple of bleached down old timers, who where more occupied with retirement plans or career switches, started making something by copying other peoples shit, only worse.

Remember you can't say competent without saying compet! This might have not been this sad, if those poor souls where competent in anything besides the actual coding (I didn't say bug free).

Now, I can't wait to see people play this game. People get addicted to this kind of shit all the time. Take for example Hearthstone (which actually captured me for weeks) or farmville and those idiotic mobile things.
Well, I believe it will actually be more fun than EU; at least the first days (if it is bug-free).

ROFL! Guess this is an exactly description how it happened. I once loved your first diary. What was it about again? A lonely, lost silver girl ... sorry, can't remember. What I remember is that I sat there and was impressed. But this post beats everything I read from you. BIG FAT THUMBS UP!

  9. Thanks, I'm getting back into writing recently and actually co-write with an established writer.

  10. Really like what and how your wrote Acronoid and fully agree on how addictive these "mobile-mini games" are...yet most of us play em for free and dont buy "diamonds".

Again MA doesnt do any (mass) advertising for this and floods its own community (us) with this pokemon crap.
Also as it is not a mobile game but a browser game, lots of opportunities are already lost, by not choosing the Android market. Then again, MA was never ever heading for the mass market.

MA is waaaaayyyyy too late with their "Candy Crush & Heartstone" attempt, but they know there are still 10-12 ppl left "on the other forum",
that willl throw their hundreds and hundreds of dollars at compet, with a minimal hope of getting something out of it for their EU avatar,
(rings and buffs "as reward" for example). No matter the cost. x'D

With these 10-12 ppl MA already made the 29,99 $ back, that this game is worth.

    p.s.
The game looks fugly, the mobs stolen and non-creative (cats dogs pandas)...but even that wont stop those 10-12 ppl from screaming and shouting "how awesome this game will be" and "how rich MA will become". In the end I make some more PEDs through the compet deeds I got for free, so I SEE a little positive thing here as well. (positive for me, not for the sci--fi MMO called PE once)

  11. Its so funny - people are buying compet deeds without even thinking why they are buying them.

  12. Itsaa zeeee mowneayyyyyyyyyy !!!!!11²²³3

  13. simple reason why... markup on aud and cld got too blasted high recently.

  14. The village looks beautiful, the developers have done a good job. There will be people who like it. If hearthstone can get 40 million registered accounts, i think this game can get atleast 1 to 2 million accounts to start with, and grow from there. People will come and go but it seems interesting.

Heartstone got 40m accounts because the company behind it is Blizzard. Blizzard has a number of very successful titles that drew millions and millions of gamers, and thus gathering attention is easy for them. MA has between 5,000 and 25,000 active players, and hundreds of thousands of people who wouldn't touch anything by them with a ten feet pole ever again (and some who fit in both categories. I'm active in game (by MAs own definition, anyway), and refuse to touch Compets, which is what they apparently chose to focus on rather than improving EU.

    Apples and oranges, mate.

  16. Is this your understanding of the gaming industry ?
Comparing a downloadable game by Activision^Blizzard^CandyCrush to a deedleeedooo-html5-project by someone noone knows, by someone who never made ANY (mass)advertising over the past 16 years ?

    Like :
"if game A can do 40million with a byproduct, then game B and C and D and E and F and G and H could do at least 1-2million" ?
Holy shit, this left me speechless. And I really liked your comparsion of EU to other games in the other thread. :/

I would agree though, that some of the rich fooks in here will "support" compet in the beginning, to "buy" the highest level and items instantly.
And thats MAs plan. They know their "community". Thats the whole plan behind microtransactions.
Some rich fooks that pay 200$ per weekend, for a game thats worth 19,99$.
The devs might get payed instantly on the 1st weekend of Compets release. ;D

Then Compet will be forgotten and/or handled like taming one day *.......except MA drops EU, fully focusing on Compet. I have SEEn so much unbelieveable stuff over the past 12 years of beeing a part of Entropia...but this is by far the most fucked up one. No, wait, that was the Casino using Entropia textures, which doe not use Entropia textures and which will be forgotten soon as well.

    * like the land plots, rideable mobs, mob arenas, Oculus Rift, Fishing, Epic Space, a casino in way connected to Entropia (lol), facebook emmisary program, NASA, ESA, 3 reallife company buildings at Athena Space Port, Xfire, ingame voice chat by Ericcson, gigantic sports stadium, golf course, thorifoid temple, Athene Zephyrus redesign, landing platforms on shops, shop design competetion, robot factories, gothenburg ship+ Vexed, SEE, Next Island, Michael Jackson, gnn brazil, mol, beverages, Reallife Bank, Cash Card, Bitcoins, MassiveAds company, ingame companies etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. just to name a few.

  17. You should make that your signature, lol... maybe even put links in there about where MA originally mentioned each, hee hee heee..

I think linking the blog is enough :D

So... given that in another Crumpet thread someone likened Entropia to DPRK... does this mean that Kim Welt Tim likes to look at things too?
