Fanbois: What am I doing wrong?

So there's a ton of fanbois for EU. I'd love to hear from you.

I logged in earlier today, while awaiting my GTA V filecheck to complete (note, this is a game I bought twice so far, spending about 100 USD on it in total, for an unknown amount of game time, but easily running into several hundreds of hours). That would last me about 2 hours of hard-core gridning in EU back when I was still playing a lot). I'm currently at the Argo outpost close to Twins. I use a Riker UL2 in order to ensure I don't just haemorrhage money, and I'm hunting whatever Argonaut maturity I can find. I'm on the 10k mission, about 61% in.

So I tag a mob, auto-shoot, and wait for the mob to die. I spent about 5 minutes, and I'm bored. Loot sucks, gameplay sucks, the music is okay, but I prefer doing something, rather than waiting.

How does one have fun in EU nowadays? Literally, this is like watching paint dry, except when watching paint dry, I'm not pissing away money. Surely I'm missing something. Please enlighten me as to what that is? Seeing ya 'all claim EU is the greatest thing since sliced bread, surely you have some solution for me.

6 planets + all their sub maps all have missions.
I'm only playing a couple hours a week these days and I have noticed that without the "full emersion obsession" I am no longer as drawn to it.
I think you really do need the social aspects to get the max enjoyment.
I've turned rookie chat back on since not many in my soc anymore. So between rookie and rock chat there is that missing social interaction that makes the grind more enjoyable. If the grind is done to relax then it is fun, if the grind is because you have no choice it is boring.

Obviously other things can break up the monotany as well. Disciples, rescue missions, helping a noon with some kill mission, etc....

  3. There was this one "mission" where I had to find CCTV cameras in the forest on Calypso...that was a decent mission.

Or having to visit that old fisherman. I felt it for a moment.

Else missions stink. Dead boring. Other games offer WAY more.

Sometimes I hunt noob mobs with noob weapons for hours. You cant loose xD But it sucks as well and skill gain sucks too.

Sometimes I mine...but I miss the exploration, the alienated massive world around me, that turned into FarCry beaches and blah.

No, I cant tell you how to have "fun" inside Entropia anymore. I play other games by now and only login once per month or so, playing with my CLD money.
THere is nothign to do, seriously.

Most missions are the same. Kill <number> creatures. Most of those will take hours. Most are nothing but repetitive clicking.

I started playing GTA V again, and missions there are actually fun and exciting. Chasing enemies. Using a combination of skills to solve a problem. They are vastly different, every time, and require both skill, concentration and attention. EU doesn't have any of that. It's fucking boring.

What social aspect? The people I used to play with ceased to play. I at one point had a crapload of knowledge about EU. I'm not fit to advise rookies in any way, shape, or form at this moment, and nor can I be arsed. That's MA's job, really.

And I play games because I'm bored. The grindfest that is EU simply isn't entertaining, and I have plenty of alternatives that provide me with far better value for money than EU. And this is coming from a guy who easily pumped in 100 USD on a weekly basis 11 years ago or so.

Perhaps I really just ought to sell out. Anyone buying?

I think the exploration is what I miss more than anything. There's simply nothing left to discover. Not on Calypso anyway. It's turned into a world that's just landscapes without personality, interspersed with static, deserted, clinical cities and outposts. All look and feel the same. There's no real landmarks. Hardly any variation. No personality, no soul.

I've been enjoying the heck out of GTA V. There's countless NPCs making their way around the place. There's unique buildings everywhere. I came across what seemed to be a memorial to a little girl on a street today. Heck, there's a whole underwater world that's amazing to explore. There's all kinds of activities, like tennis or golf. And they are actually FUN.

Every time I log into EU, I tend to play for just a little bit. Kill a few Argoes. Get a little bit closer to completion of the 10k mission. Click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, loot, repeat. Within a minute I'll be reminded that I'm missing out on actually having fun, rather than slaving away at a "job". I wonder if ND considered that whatever jobs he hoped to create are the kind of stuff that robots are invented for IRL. Boring, mindless crap that no human being should want to engage in, for pay that's so crap that I wonder if it'd even cover the electricity used to run the game.

  6. Hoping GTA's latest versions get ported to android tv. :)

As far as Entropia goes... yep, completely boring as hell lately... I had the funds to potentially buy a mall shop a while ago, but decided to not deposit since it's just too damn boring in game. I'm still living on ROI of one cld and a bundle of aud at the moment. Have one compet deed just for the hell of it... not enough to really 'play hard' but I log in about once a week to collect roi and either do some puny hunting/taming or craft a few explosives...

As for the planets, yep, each is boring as hell... worse now that many of them got downsized since they couldn't afford the server bills.

As far as the android tv comment goes, well, that's one place some of the funds I was mentioning earlier went. :) Got a nvidia sheild and a dvr... catching up on netflix a bit and doing a little gaming here and there... not highest end games in the world, but it's nice for what it is... especially since a lot of android games are freebies/cheap... you get more hours of game play/fun for the money with it than you would with a higher end console and/or something else with a smaller available library of games to get

I treat it as a chat client with extensive backdrop. One could say a lot about what happens with this backdrop, agree or disagree about this or that, but if you take everything from this vantage point you're not stressing yourself out over it. The times when I get worked up is when they raze a place I've grown to like, esp. Calypso is liable for doing so, other PPs much less. But in the end it's the folks you hang around with that make or break your experience.

  8. Exactly, the atmosphere is gone, so the hardcore addicts dont get distracted and can focus on their main profession...spending PEDs.

Im playing Syndicate (from 2012) right now. A swedish game company founded by the demogroup Triton, that partnered up with Electronic Arts for this title...which turned out to be a commercial failure...still, they use their own engine and even if the game isnt the best I have ever played ;D...the atmosphere at some points is so dense, that you can get lost into the scenario. You can feel it. It has fog, rain, lightning effects that create a dream like feeling sometimes. Hadehseim anyone ?

    SYNDICATE town.jpg

Still, there are by far better games out there, but MindArk completely removed any atmosphere from Entropia by now. Together with the repetitive hunting / mining there really isnt much left. Back in the days it felt like "arriving" somewhere, when logging into Entropia. The best 3D chat ever :)

    p.s.
I could get lost in any GTA title, even the 1st one on PSX console. An immersive world for sure, that you can get lost in, even without focusing on the "main" missions. Thats what games should be for...not clicking 10.000 argonauts to achieve something.

  9. EU is a slot machine dressed as an adventure game plan and simple. Pressing the button to shoot, craft, or mine is exactly the same as pulling a lever. When I'm standing 2 feet away from a creature shooting and holding my breath every time hoping its not another evade. When you do finally kill it you hold your breath again hoping that maybe this time the creature will carry loot only to have all your hopes dashed when you get 10 blazer frags after burning through 50 ped of ammo.
I've only played 6 months and dp close to 1500 usd and already, like some others have said, I'm bored as phuk. I've flown to all the other planets and thought my computer must be buggy cause all the other player avatars weren't showing up on my screen, oh wait there are no avatars on this planted, its just me!

  10. GTA is an example of a game that's been around for almost 20 years, and truly evolves. The gameplay and replay value of GTA 3 or Vice City is still better than anything that MA has done since VU10. I can't do 30 minutes in EU anymore....I spent 3 -4 hours in GTA5 today..
EU continues to devolve, and the basic gameplay hasn't changed.
I have Vice City on my work PC and I love playing it to this day

If you like Syndicate, check out Satellite Reign. It's equally gorgeous, and it's made with Unity :)

And yeah, that's what I love about Rockstar games. It's a real sandbox game, where I can simply do the missions, or just cruise around enjoying the scenery. GTA has it, Red Dead Redemption has it, LA Noire has it. It's never boring, somehow doesn't feel repetitive, and best of all, it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to do stuff.

I sometimes start good old Skyrim again. Just to ride slowly on horseback through the (meanwhile) wellknown landscapes. Since I play in survival mode I need to prepair for a journey (tent, drinks and food, soap, fur clothes for the northern areas with coldness and sometimes blizzards and so on). Usually I ask one of my followers to come along (for the sex at a riverside in the sunset or even in the tent while it rains outside and the storm is howling). In the mornig a bath in the river nearby and than back to the road again, occasionally killing some bandits or wild animals - just enjoying the silence and the beauty of the landcape.
And guess what! Lately I read somewhere that Bethesda plan a graphical overhaul of the old game (2012) AND WILL TAKE CARE THAT THE MODS FROM PLAYERBASE WILL STILL RUN!
Far away in the past I did such joyrides in EU too. Relaxed with rests here and there, visits of POIs, occasional hunts on weak mobs without armour and other fun. And now? YAHHHWN!

  13. Man, I had seen Satellite Reign screenshots a "long time ago" and forgot about the name of it. I really really wanted to play it ! THANKS ! :D

And I still have to play Skyrim...but 1st I have to "finish" Sacred 2 Gold...

    Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

    p.s.
Vice City on an "old" laptop...I played that at work on nightshift so often :'D

  14. i thought about it for quite some time, but i don't dare to answer what you're doing wrong.

just login and have fun, it's the only thing we're supposed to do for FUCKING FREE in EU. maybe make sexy dance and screenshots, or try to express yourself in some other panties? http://www.entropiaplanets.com/threads/eyes-closed.19249/

    just my 5$. :nana:

  15. got most of the gta 3 games on old ps 2. Stuck on San Andreas because of the stupid flying missions. I suck at flying, lol. Why do they make it a requirement to do the flying levels when it's a darn game about stealing cars?!?

So. Lykke and I did a lot of that 10 years ago. One of my favorite moments was WDWDIYA (What did we do in your apartment) where Lykke and I snuck into MindStars apartment and took a load of pictures in suggestive poses. Or doing treasure hunts; hiding little things in odd places in memorable places; on the smiley, in the little buildings in the town with buildings you could explore and slide into. In the umbra village, or on top of corckscrew mountain. I came up with the idea of doing a secret cult meeting in the cave close to Phoneix. Opala hunts. Fisting events.

    All cheap fun.

Back then, when there was a vibrant and active community, this was possible, and actually fun. I don't even feel the will to do any of that anymore, because I somehow don't feel the same sense of community anymore. Initially these things started of as fun. They ended with people stealing the scenery or setting while the event was stlll going on.

  17. I have gta5 as well. I spent a few hours in there. Gfx and gameplay are all right.
Still there's something missing. I am not making any real cash.. a waste of time.

Exactly my point. Back then there were reasons for looking good (clothes, makeup), become high skilled and buy expansive gear to get access to the high society. You got response from the community (I was asked to buy the Rainbow Sword because folks knew me as one of the best melee hunters). It was worth it to "live" in this community! You arn't doing wrong. The game changed. That's all. I think none of the fanboys can attract you or me to return to this fundamental changed game again. It simply lost its charm. Don't worry, we all had a wonderful time there for several years. That's good, isn't it?

You're not losing/gambling with any cash either...

And thus the tie to realism is missing.
That brings it down to the question, Do you want your experience to have those highs and lows ripping on your immortal soul in such a way that only a real cash economy can? or Do you want to escape reality as much as possible and immerse yourself in something that holds no ties, consequences, or rewards in reality?

Neither way is 'better' than the other, they are just different.
If you wish for the first and you want to do it in a 3d virtual world environment, then there aren't many options.
If you wish for the later, then you have a multitude of options and should pursue them with your free time.

The truth is you want the 'best' of 'both worlds', however such a beast does not (to my knowledge) exist.
Therefor when you are in one, the grass is always greener in the other, and you miss that piece of the puzzle for what would be your 'ideal'.

Its like going to McDonalds and complaining that they don't serve prime rib, then going across the street to the Steakhouse and complaining that they don't have a $1 menu.
