Possible Time Destination for Next Island

  1. Since the entire concept of Next Island is a parallell reality where certain things that we consider fantasy are indeed possible, why not add as a time destination the "Steampunk" era.

In Steampunk lore technology is mixed with Victorian / Edwardian era English culture, fashion, and mentality creating an environment similar to that portrayed in movies like The Golden Compass, A Nightmare Before Christmas, Sweeney Todd, and of course The Wizard of Oz. Its a popular style to mix time genres in ways that people would otherwise think were impossible. Anime is very fond of using Steampunk to combine Samurai culture with a futuristic outlook (Samurai 7, Full Metal Alchemist). Rotary guns walk alongside derigibles, hot air baloons, airplanes, and even lasers. Gizmos abound!

[IMG]Steampunk music has its own flavor as well. Bands now such as Abney Park and other great groups pull this off very well.

The graphical flavor for this world would be awesome. Vehicles of all sorts could be created. Imagine traveling around in something that looked like this:

This time destination though eclectic would allow for all sorts of creativity hitherto unexpressable in EU to be suddenly taken to the forefront.

That and Steampunk is a growing trend, with no decent MMOs out that cater to it.

    Opportunity!

  2. Interesting concept idea.

  3. I've been hoping for Hot air balloons since V1.0 Just cause they'd look great floating about in the sunset:) Also the Steampunk theme works really well with the Idea of a colony world, you take advanced technology to such a world without the infrastructure to keep such advanced stuff maintained you have to fall back to using more primitive technologies. Good Post:) + Rep

  6. Intresting idea and I like it, I just don't see it fitting with Next Island. Plus if the idea was expanded it could be a planet of it's own. :)
