  2. very disappointed in as much as the game can NOT be played unless the player is willing to dump hundreds and ma by thousands into it on a weekly basis

    but
NI has lessened the impact enough that my furry has simmered down enough that i havent cashed out yet

  3. Calemus -

You raise a valid issue. Many EU players can afford and do deposit heavily. I think this is more true on Calypso than Next Island -- with NI developing a culture that is less focused on heavy deposits. Time will tell how this plays out, but I have high hopes for the future.

As a retired person with a modest pension income, I think my entertainment dollars will stretch much farther on NI.

Have fun -- this is entertainment.

As someone who has played for a little less then two weeks, I can't say I have anything but a first impression. On that note the game has been fun despite the lack of refined content (like missions) and local economy based items (like NI specific blueprints). And with both of these issues being addressed shortly, there is little cause for concern. That being said, I am generally pleased with my time at Next Island.

On the topic of deposits... I don't quite see the need to dump a ton of money in to have some success and a lot of fun. Personally, I've only invested the spare change I had sitting around and it's been more then enough to buy the basic equipment I need and get a good start into mining. And last I counted, my net worth is about 80% of my starting money! So what I'm really trying to say is that it's possible to enjoy NI on the cheap but I personally can't confirm or deny what the end game looks like. I can see how it could cost hundreds of dollars a week and I am glad that is not my experience.

    LordLongLicious Do you fear death?

What keeps me going is the graphic quality and the friends I am making in there, serious.

Because the bugs, lies on update promises and the apparent speculation with housing and shops (serious, just put those darn things for sale once and for all and let people sort it out) drives me... nuts.

it is really, really dissapointing, now that I am developing a game myself (very different from this) to see that some fixes are easy - they are just not being done!

ANd the virtual estates situation, this is just sick (and not on a slang kind of way) It does make me feel cheated. Unnescessary, uncalled for, a provocation to anyones intelligence.

It does look like it is built for gamblers the way virtual estates are being handled + some other things.

I would have said "rich kids game" however that would have implied it runned well and you could purchase things, with no bugs.

And dont get me wrong, I have invested money on it, and I am a strong supporter of NI, as my actuation on this sense speak for itself I dare to say, however how to keep on if one can almost feel the will to harm the players somehow?

Fix the bugs once and for all and sell the shops and houses on the island and I will only have good words.

If the good will is shown to sell all available properties (please dont create the ghost towns due to non rewarding speculation like in Calypso), make sure like in many countries that each player can have only two or three properties on his or her name.

I see malls on Calypso where one floor belongs to an user - and is not being used at all! Killing any possible influx of people to those places.

You are aware that if they dont deliver what they have promised you can demand your money back, right?

What seems to be going on is just so sad.

So fix the bugs (now! I know it can be done quick, so stop embarassing yourselves) and put the darn houses and shops for sale, once and for all.

I played also other games, in the while, but I got bored EU still catch me even if I don't know the real reason

  8. My experience on Entropia universe has been great. I have Depoed a lot of money but The value of my avatar is pretty much the same as much as I depoed. This was Cause i invested my time and money into Actions that would Earn me something and to have a great time. I am pretty much 75% miner 24% crafter and 1 % hunter. It's about investing your time and money into the correct things and don't go all happy go lucky on a item that is sweet.
I mean i have put money into happy go lucky items and ya they are fun :)

But Be smart Play Smart and you can make it too.... everyone Can do it and have a positive experience.

Number one tip i will ever tell anyone is Have a Good attitude :) and things will happen!!!!!!!!!

I hope to Test next island out soon and have some fun with you all that are up there :)

    GL and peace!

Thanks for the post Strash. And for you Islanders, Strash has been around EU for quite some time now and knows what he's talking about around here! Take his advice to heart!

Looking back at all the things that have happened over the 4+ years I have been here, I would say that CryEngine update would be the best thing that could have happed. I agree that it is still very buggy but that is because it was never designed to be a MMO engine. So with that in mind I can't wait to see what the future has instore for us.

As for Strash said, I would agree 100%. It takes alot of time and dedication with alot of reading of what others have done and what not to do to get to the level where your money input equals a fun and entertaining game. To me this time and dedication is what sets Entropia appart from any other MMO!!

  11. CryEngine 2 is a bit of a resource hog when it comes to MMORPG engines. Its flashy, but overall a little too demanding for most MMO platforms. Its benefit is the level of development that goes into it, as well as the implied scalability of such a thing by basically farming the engine off to a company that continues to develop their engine further.

With regard to my experiences in EU its been a mixed bag, some good others not so good. The good - The game is hugely involved, very deep, and aside from some gameplay mechanics that can be easily added later on down the line everything Ive wanted out of an MMO. I have met some great people both within my society and outside it. The bad - Some players can be petty. This is normal for any MMO. Some players however are just plain mean, and it takes alot to not be mean right back to them. Sometimes more than I personally possess. Some folks can only get fun and fulfillment from a product by griefing other participants -- in most games they PK each other and talk trash. In EU they harass, using funding and the influence that can buy to bully.

The game itself and the economy within the product I could care less about. It is what it is, and the choices you make determine not only your cost, but the level of fun you have with what money you put in or accrue. People who chase globals tend to spend more and get upset more when they don't get those globals. In a post previously I likened this to a phenomenon heroin addicts call "Chasing the Dragon." People who play within their means tend to last longer, not worry about their global count, and overall make more progress within the platform.

That being said you wont find much (read: any) sympathy for EU on MMORPG.com. That site is only about MMORPG's in name. Its participants have long since forgotten they are there first and foremost to talk about games, and now troll each other ad nauseum -- the admins going along with it as long as it suits the marketing interests of the site. The marketing interests of the site do not include a non retail product with a revenue generation model that does not involve running gigantic ads on their site.
