  2. Actually it's the NI Live team that should be clearing things up. I think ND is staying out of this for a few reasons;
    1)Too many people think he in charge of managing NI and he doesn't want to add to that rumor.
    2)A lot of people are using this as a launching platform for their own agenda. That's on both the pro and anti NDS sides. The hardcore Anti-NDS will pervert anything he says into somthing nafarious and the hardcore pro-NDS will distort what he says into something heavenly.

    Just my thoughts on why he is not here.

    I think that the reason we haven't seen him on planet since the launch is due to his effort not to feed the controversy. It could also be a David Post thing, keeping him out so that the negative press the island got during the launch would decline. Whichever it is, the fact remains that so far the only info we've had has been spoon fed to us not from those running the island, but from ND and Enzo.

    I just find it sad to have a planet with so much potential, pioneers that are so enthusiastic about it, keeping new players in just to be ignored. Still, it IS sunday. Maybe we'll hear more once the weekdays begin. Fingers crossed.

  5. What I think you overlook, Corey, is that lots of people, myself certainly included, have been fed up with the amateuristic approach to EU for years already. My/our hopes were on Next Island to clear things up, and offer us a place to go to if we somehow wanted to remain in the Entropia Universe, but not on Calypso.

    The first impression of Next Island that I was submitted to was that it had the NEVERDIE name slapped all over it, which definitly was a major turnoff. I'm aware this is only one area of the whole planet, but the fact that at the time of release, all but one Next Island TP led to said island, sure made it seem weird. Since, I have explored the rest of the planet, and actually enjoyed it. However, I think that I ought to be allowed to voice my opinion. You disagree, and obviously dismiss it as "nothing but negative", which is fine by me.

    However, why you expect me to just shut up and remain quiet whenever more half-finished content is released is beyond me. YOU might be fine by being screwed time and time again by NEVERDIE and his cronies, but please, kindly, do not expect me to do the same.

    I do NOT want Next Island or ROCKTropia to fail at all. I do not want to see the Entropia Universe to fail, either. But what you do not seem to realize is that every time that half-finished content is released and press releases are sent out, every single person who has anything (be it time or money) invested in Entropia Universe suffers from it. I mostly hope that by voicing my opinion here, it will be heard, and corrective actions will be taken by the planet owner.
     
  6. I'm glad I didn't and wouln't be playing anywhere near this far in this game. This is just sad. I was badly disappointed within the three hours. I mean, the character creation was good and the graphics are nice, but that's it. The whole game is a big scam, asking you to invest large amounts of money in the hopes that you may one day "win it back from a big score". I talked to a guy today who says he spent 8 months just trying to get in a position where he could hunt. Really. Apparently the game has an average drop rate of .30 cents for every 10 hours. Slave labor much? The whole 'sweat' thing is obviously an allusion to sweat shops. But even if you put your money into the game, it'd still be little more than a tremendous grind.

    Why don't the developers just make a real game? Then they'd make money and the customers would be happy (instead of drained and depressed that they wasted their time). Ugh, 6 gigabite download for this!
     
  7. I would urge you to reconsider. This game is an uphill battle to get started but once you do it is well worth it.
     
  8. To be fair alot of people feel this way. A quick tour across the MMO fan sites and community sites will show many not listing Entropia Universe as an available product at all, and some research back on those sites shows it was listed, but user sentiment against the product for various reasons prompted the site operators to de-list the product since many felt it did not qualify as an MMORPG, but instead was something else. Real Cash Economy isnt an appropriate term -- most MMORPG's have real cash elements now, and although they may not be embraced wholeheartedly by the developer the user base understands the concepts perfectly well and many engage in the RCE side of common MMORPGs. No, the user base of MMORPG's at large feels the product lacks something, and as a result they feel the price tag is unjustified -- with greedy speculators and unexplainable insiders being the only "logical" explanation they can come up with.

    If the Next Island team wants to attract the casual user this is the myth they are going to have to dispel by actively implementing new content that breathes life into the social sphere of this product. I hope they have something more than time travel on the agenda -- otherwise the risk they run, that this product remains very niche for the next few years at the very least, remains high.

    Perhaps the operating premise is that each planet will borrow tech developed from others as they come out, enriching the universe as a whole over time. That may explain a relative lack of content now, but a strong confidence on the part of the deveoper.

    hello, jayne.

    I don't know if you'll be back, but if you are I would be very interested in learning what expectation you had for this game. my experience is pretty much the opposite of what you describe. it took me about two days, when I started, to get into a position where I could do something like hunt. probably, most of that time was taken up figuring out the interface and the map.

    it has certainly not forced me to spend huge sums of money, and I'm under no illusion about the likelihood of 'hitting it big'.

    I feel that for many new people, they are presented with a single path that many keep repeating: go sweat until you can buy a gun and the go hunt. I feel this is terrible advice and had I followed it, I certainly would feel exactly as you do - as I would have had a very similar experience.

    when I started, I adopted a very simple philosophy: do the opposite of what the majority does. it worked out well for me, as I've been here almost eight years. and, over time, I've been able to take this simple philosophy and adapt it into a playstyle which is workable and enjoyable.

    best of luck, and hopefully, you'll have a change of heart.
