  1. MS9 could you please just let the members of NI decide what they think instead of using this as another oppurtunity to slam ND.
Are we completly happy with development? No.
Do we need another person who spends zero time on NI telling us how we feel? No.
We are grown ups and can make up our minds without you.
You have not been here sweating it out with us to help the comunity. You have done absolutly nothing to help NI. You have absolutly nothing invested in NI. Thus you have absolutly no reason to complain.
A one day old newb on NI has more reason to complain then you.

Sorry if I come off a little rude but after your attack on ND's ten year old son on PCF I see no reason to be polite.

EDIT: I should note that I am not the one who titled this thread "MS9 fan club"

  2. The problem is that a game like this that yields real money, and information on how to stock hold items that may be of use is on the same level as insider trading, these things could cause a wicked bad influx of traffic and stock piling. Non of which will help anyone.

Meg and her team do indeed have a ruff idea of what is coming out when, but it also has to be checked and administrated by the powers that be.

This does not land on Meg, and in a sense sometimes does not land on the dev teams working on said product.

As media, I know the problems developers face, and while I understand that all of the players might be having trouble and getting frustrated, acting like any of this is intentional or fault worthy is quite childish.

Don't burn yourself out with the content at hand, I have been here for a little while and started my character on NI, I also play other games and have multiple things going on in real life, all of which keeps NI fun for me as is. So please relax everyone.

Exactly! :palm: ... and the very reason I have yet to visit Next Island. However, it doesn't negate the fact that as someone who has spent 6 years in this universe (far longer than you), and has witnessed historical evolution as such, it gives me a better base to evaluate the current state of affairs.

And for the record ... I never attacked ND's son, but rather contributed the fact that he has been playing EU since he was 6 years old (he is now 10), and the ToS clearly states that you must be 18 years of age, but can play as young as 13 with consent of a parent. I wasn't the only one who brought this up either, but you seem to like to always point the finger at me when I add facts to a discussion that can't be disputed ... a fact is a fact Corey.

Look ... I truly do love this universe, and the fact that it has so damn much potential, but just like so many others, we see developers (not just ND) make decisions that give us incomplete environments and disruptive game play. Is that ok with you? ... especially with this being a real cash economy and many who have invested in this universe on faith that it will be the product that the customer is entitled to?

I'm not now, nor have I ever personally attacked ND, but rather the development decisions that leave two planets without a viable economy, which to many should have been a critical part of the planet prior to launch. It was admitted that both planets were launched early, and if you come back and say this is in beta, then the only thing I can say at this point is sit tight for a minute.

I have nothing against you Corey, and I really don't want us to be at odds in the grand scheme of things, so I ask you respectfully not to continue challenging my contributions when so many others are saying the same thing. I am entitled to join a discussion at this forum the same as anyone else.

I want to see Next Island succeed, and spent time with David Post during the exclusive interview I did with him for the launch issue of our magazine last September, and in doing so ... I felt the excitement of his dream and vision since childhood in the way he explained it to me in email and his responses to the interview questions, which really added a special element. I was incredibly excited about the launch of Next Island, but to see how it has evolved is rather disheartening to me (on his behalf I guess).

I know David's a big boy and can deal with the issues, but the plethora of variables relating to Next Island (aside from it's absolute beauty - really great job there), the game play is the key aspect of the planet that promotes frustration that minimizes the potential support.

It's just not me Corey, so can we please keep this amenable and not get into a pissing contest about it ... I would really appreciate it.

It's one thing to inhabit Next Island and help the locals (that's extremely admirable and I'm sure quite appreciated - I give every credit due there with no reservation), but where the help is needed is what needs to be fixed, or what should have been in place at the beginning, and that can't happen by anyone other than the developers.

I'm hoping that one day I will be able to travel to Next Island and Ancient Greece and really have a wonderful experience, as well as write awesome things about it ... that is my goal, which has always been to support all planet partners in promoting their planets, but I have to be able to have more than just beautiful graphics to add the full flavor of a planet.

As an ending note ... I believe that some day we'll get there, and I will be supporting the efforts that relate to ROCKtropia and Next Island ... it's just not now unfortunately, and it actually saddens me, because I was truly excited about both planets.

Even Meg is apologetic that she can't give us better news, and that there was no update in this most recent release to help things along. There is also no news of what or when something will happen to fix things, and others have also commented on this as well, so ... our discussion posts are not without merit.

However, I have said what I've wanted to say, and I won't post anything further on this topic. You can now exhale Corey, and despite your personal opinions about me, I wish you continued fun with your experiences in our universe.

  4. This is the truth.

To hell with the "6 years" of experience and that it is "more than someone else, by the way." Using complete sentences to outline how much more experience you have than someone else is no different than some troll cruising on a messageboard and calling everyone on there "noobs."

    Tone it down.

Establishing a basis of knowledge and experience in a specific game absolutely has merit, but then short-timers don't seem to appreciate that much. However, it doesn't negate the facts, and that's the most important part, right? :)

  6. Your points of knowledge are established by what you say about a product, not how much time you spend. However if you'd like to measure virtual penis sizes, here's a ruler.

For my part I'd rather not have to wade through the witch hunts and personal agendas so common on other forums. Thanks however, for your input.

  7. This pisses me off that you are making yourself seem like you have anything to do with the development of the game or that you have some relationship with the company when your just a reporter for an entropia times that is an independant publication based off of entropias message boards that takes info that is released just like this and puts it into another article. The whole acting high and mighty for stuff that you think you may help in gets annoying really fast. But o well always gonna be fuckers like that. and yes i am being a jackass but even i have my limits on being nice to some people.

P.S. no one cares how long you have been playing so stop being such an uber snob because really you could have 100 years of experience in this game and guess what? NO ONE CARES! :palm:

  8. meg, the update you are talking about, is it the one tomorrow? or is it the next planned update?

*edit* and you other guys, just agree to disagree and drop it before this forum turn into another "planet calypso forum" where you can't post anything without getting flamed and insulted by immature children... (not saying you guys are, just saying that's what planet calypso forum is FILLED with, and i really hope NI forum won't turn into that)

When all else fails, pull out the rude card, because that makes you look cool and wins allies.

Time and experience do have merit, because if you haven't been around a long time, nor been exposed to historical changes and interaction with the community by the developers, then you have no basis from which to contribute at the level that veterans do. Sure, you can give an opinion on what your experience has been in your short time of playing, but it's not the same, and I don't get how you can say it is.

Besides ... you fail to remember that I am not alone in what I'm saying. You can certainly choose to ignore facts, but they still remain facts.

And Anthony ... the EntropiaTimes is based on exclusive content not taken from any forum, so perhaps become better informed before making such a statement?

    EDIT:

I agree with jellyfish ... we can agree to disagree and be done with it ... I haven't been rude to anyone here, just posted my contributions to a discussion, which I am allowed to do, yet a few of you feel the need to be totally rude. If you can't be civil and constructive in a discussion, then perhaps it's best to stay out of it.

The fact that people don't always agree on a topic is normal, but it doesn't mean that you have to be ugly to a person in the process. You guys are the ones who are minimizing the experience at this forum with your flaming and personal attacks, all because I civilly and constructively voiced an opinion in response to what someone else posted ... just like many others are doing and saying the same thing. Belittling a person has no value, and certainly doesn't foster effective communication, and also a cheap shot response as well.

I have nothing further to say to you who choose to be rude ... and if you continue with such, then it only reveals something about yourselves, not me.

  10. MS9, your "experience" is obviously not wanted here. As I mentioned in my first post to you, we are not children, we can make up our own minds. If you where actually on NI breaking your back with the rest of us your opinion might count for a little more. Since you are not here your opinion comes off as condescending. Now in my experience in real life people get a little touchy when your condescending.
Since you hold experience in such high regard I should point out that experience is worthless without the wisdom to use it. We do not want "Calypso experience". We do not want things to be exactly like Calypso. We want to explore this world and come up with new suggestions. New ways of doing things.
I am getting really tired of the economy argument as well. Economy requires more then goods to manufacture and sell, it requires people to buy them. Five hundred bp's could be released tomorrow and we would still have no economy because we do not have a large enough population yet. People like you are constantly undermining attempts to retain new players with your well written posts on what is wrong with NI.

So could you please leave Calypso wisdom behind and let us build our new world? Sure what works for Calypso would be a good "quick fix" for NI but then NI would just be a copy of Calypso. Thank you.

  11. Thanks Greyfox. I think you hit the nail on the head with that particular post. She claims to be civil, but comes off as condescending, which is anything but civil. Its the kind of discourse people engage in at office parties and in meetings. People are verbally polite, but thats only on the surface. Everyone knows what's really being said. People get away with it there because of money and power. Here there is no money involved, and at least on this forum those in power dont seem to be too eager to participate themselves.

Given the absence of supporting factors I feel there is absolutely no reason to tolerate that sort of behavior.

Its a game, mental fishing. The poster is trying to incite others to respond so that they can make a counter point, one they hope will be interpreted by the crowd as somehow greater in quality and more erudite than the responder.

In layman's terms shes just here to troll. Her arrogant, snobby behavior and condescending attitude detract from any points shes making, undermining any message she might want people to hear. The positive feedback she gets is likely going to be from people who already agree with her, and the negative feedback she gets she will just label as noobish, ignorant, or rude.

Better to just call her bluff and send her packing than encourage that kind of behavior here. Otherwise this forum will turn into another PCF -- verbal sparring, reputation wars, and fake accounts included!

Please keep it civil, this sort of behavior isn't the feel I had grown accustomed to from the NI residents :/

Both sides of the argument have valid points but neither side should be on the offensive.
You have each said your piece, now try and stay on topic.

Ok, I can see that the rude banter will continue, so I shall leave and not post here any more. I will let you carry on building your new world, but still wish you the best experience possible.

Oh, and ... you have to know by now that words have no meaning until the recipient adds meaning to them, right? I'm specifically referring to your rudeness that obviously you feel carries any type of weight in an attempt to make another person feel bad ... not.

    Enjoy your planet. :)

  14. Mindstar, shut up. Seriously. Are you labelling me rude because I said you were trying to measure virtual penis size? You are trying to measure virtual penis size. It is obvious, and nobody likes it. Oh wait I get it. Youre labeling me rude because I said penis.

    Penis.

    Tee hee.

Its not even about the argument at hand anymore, if there was really an argument at hand. Its about her MONSTROUS ego, and whether this community should be subjected to it. The fact, yes fact, that she thinks she is SO MUCH BETTER than many others on these boards. The fact is she isnt. She's just some fool who runs around the boards thumping her own chest and playing mind games.

Narfi, she may be your editor, but she is not mine. Nothing personal here, I am however not beholden to her in any way and I will have my piece said. I am tired of her arrogant little tirades, her ridiculous witch hunts, and her unnecessary posturing. They serve NO PUBLIC BENEFIT.

We know things are wrong with Next Island. Everyone here knows lots of things are wrong with Next Island. We would like the dev team to fix them. We would not like the dev team to feel stupid while they do so.

    She apparently wants exactly this.

Take a look at her posts, all of them, and disagree with me.

    /rant off

  15. actually your wrong i have been quite informed and read it quite a few times and its the same shit that i read everywhere else :) whats even better is alot of the times i read it before entropiatimes even post about it. But i do enjoy the entropia times because i like all the crammed data into one place. but i dont like you being a snobby ass punk thats another story. plus i have 1 year of experience in entropia so im not a total noob so yes i do know quite a bit. PLUS a person can sit there and have the experience or they can cheat and read out the history of EU and play so much to have the game ideas memorized so its not that hard but if 6 years makes you feel awesome. be my guest really...

  16. Calin

Calin Due for an Ultra-Uber Loot.

I know I had a nice rant earlier, but damn this thread has gone downhill fast and hard. Corey, Magyar, Mindstar... Each of you say some things I like. Each of you say some things I don't like. Seeing the different directions we all come from it amazes me that we all start with the same base feeling... A love for EU. Sure we each have a favorite planet, or tp, or city , or hill, or whatever, but the fact remains that we all have these high tensions because we share a common trait. We love spending our time in EU.

I bet even with all of our differences we still have a lot of things in common. Even when I yell at MA, NI, NDS, SDS, and individuals, I know that we really do all come from the same place. Every one of us became involved in EU. The fact that those of us who are players are still here says we have something strong in common.

I've been around a little over 5 years. To some people I am a veteran, to others I'm a noob. Know what?... It doesn't matter. If you've been in EU more than a few days you know enough to start having some sort of opinion. Some have seen more things than others, some have come in at good times, some at bad times. Some people hunt, craft, mine, etc. Some stand around and chat. Some trade all day long. We will all see things somewhat differently because of these things. That's part of what makes EU special.

The thing that really stands out about EU is the potential, and this is probably the biggest source of both positive and negative feelings. We all see the potential greatness in EU, we all see the problems in the path to that potential. Guess what, we are all individuals with different personalities... We will all see these things somewhat differently, but if we each try and keep that in mind I think we can all have a more pleasant experience.

Being a part of EU is like living in a small town. We all know something of each other, some we know better than others, some we get along with better than others. We may bicker and whine, but when you really boil it down to the base... We ARE a community. I for one am very happy to be part of this community, even with the cracks in the pavement, the rundown grocery store and the noisy neighbors.

edit: I forgot to add what i was originally going to comment on... I agree with Jellyfish about the hoping this doesn't become like the Calypso forum. NI Life has always been a much more comfortable and pleasant forum. I hope it can stay that way overall. :)

Can we all agree that we want more awesome in Next Island, without being mean and making me boot people?

  18. Sorry to stick you between a rock and a hard place here.
MS9 only ever posts when s/he has an opportunity to bash ND. MS9 is incredibly condescending and self centred. If you don't believe me read her posts on PCF. MS9 and her followers resorted to picking on a ten year old kid when they had a problem with ND. Granted that kid should not have been allowed to play in the first place. However that kid played since he was six. MS9 and her followers took something from a kid who could not have understood what he did wrong. MS9 and her followers are nothing but self righteous bullies. MS9 has contributed nothing to NI but has pointed out NI's flaws every where she got the chance to. We need to retain new players for NI to continue but MS9 and others like her make this very hard to do. New players read forums. New players see people like MS9 acting like they have a position of authority saying NI has "this and that problem" and they loose heart and quite playing.
People forget that not all the planets are going to be the same but they continue to push the Calypso model on other planets. In my opinion the Calypso model doesn't work for Calypso so I see no reason to adapt it here. Let us decide what we want to see in our world without interference from Calypso "fanboys". Remember I was born Calypso two years ago. I came to NI to find something wrong with it. I was honest in my research though and found the only problem was a poor economy. This is of coarse a problem that will face every new RCE world.

  19. Your statement is wrong in so many ways that I think it warrants a response. The great majority of the articles in the EntropiaTimes is written from scratch, and a lot of the articles we feature are done by means of interviewing people with interesting stories to tell. While certainly, there might be some overlap with info on the forums, you could not be further from the truth with your claim that all we do is rewrite existing material.

But dont let the beef you seem to have with one contributor deter you from belittleing the project as a whole (despite you obviously not having the faintest idea of the huge amount of time and effort put into it by absolutely everyone involved, MindStar certainly included). It works wonders for the PCF people you claim to despise so much, so why wouldn't it work for you?
