  1. I never thought I would see PE sink so low as this which I find in my program launcher today. You people have to be joking. YES? Please say this was a joke.

Dating expert and relationship columnist J from the popular website Geek’s Dream Girl will appear in Next Island’s Crystal Resort as her avatar Metis, answering players’ questions on life and love.
J has written extensively on dating and romance, and, with Geek’s Dream Girl, she’s helped hundreds of online daters find love. (Check out my personal favorite GDG piece, Ten Reasons To Date A Geek Girl) “We’re excited to be connecting with single geeks in the virtual world of Next Island,” says Geek’s Dream Girl founder, E. Foley. “It’s just another way for us to reach out and affect the lives – virtual or real – of our community.”
Metis will be available to chat with players on Monday and Wednesdays, from 5pm to 7pm EST, in Next Island’s Crystal Resort. Come meet up with her ingame to talk about finding love!

It must be a joke. Who is she going to counsel, me three other players and a papoo? Honestly they should wait until there are hundreds or at least thousands of players running around there. Not that I have need for it being married etc but I don`t see anything wrong with having something for everyone. A lot of people seek relationships online. And even more could use some advice or someone to talk to.

Now I`ll be waiting for the guy from Gamblers Anonymous to be making an appearance on Calypso! lol

  4. Well like any feature if it's ignored it will go away. I have to agree that the whole "singles club" idea for NI subtracts from NI. But then again I have always found internet dating to be a tad on the shallow side.

  5. heh we'll see soon enough but ofc I hope it's a joke. I guess the original Entropia spirit and a dating sim are just about as far away from eachother as you can get! Besides if you wanted these kind of members you would need to have "sexy" stuff too which Post clearly said won't be available/allowed on NI. So yeah either joke or fail. Whatever it turns out to be but I guess there is not really a third option.

  6. Okay off topic but wouldn't being a "Dating Expert" just be a nice way of saying your a player? Seriously the only way you can become an expert in something to have lots of experience. I'm sorry but the more I think about having a "Dating Expert" regularly spending time on NI trying to hook people up the more it bothers me.
Not to mention the very real danger of promoting this kind of activity. This will attract single and desperate teens, and will attract the people who would prey on them. Can you imagine the bad publicity if this headline ever came up, "14 year old girl kidnapped by a guy she meet in the virtual world Next Island.". If your going to actively promote dating here what are you plans to make sure that headline never comes up?

  7. In the other hand, I think this one is fine one. Please do not think about any GREAT or BIG IDEA, small thing like this can go well and better. Let me remind you about this video:

YouTube - JamhotTV : Entropia Universe - New Oxford - City of Culture

It is about New Oxford in Calypso. Many of you may not know what was the main purpose of building that New Oxford place and how much effort was spent to build it. It was BIG, was GREAT, but it is just complete FAIL.

  8. I think the virtual dating idea is fine too. Lets not be too quick to judge. Just because it might not be useful for some of us here doesnt mean others wont find it useful. If implemented right you dont need virtual genitalia and private sex rooms to arrange a cool virtual date. I know of a few people who met playing online games and whos online interactions became a real life relationship based soley off mundane ingame activities.

A guild raid can be a fun date.

So can a night out watching a comedy show.

Or a virtual race, or surfing competition.

To imply a "Second Life" type environment is necessary in order to facilitate meaningful social interaction is silly. As for the legal troubles, well... everything is dangerous, and even in regular dating people are vulnerable to perverts, wierdos, and the hopelessly desperate. You cannot protect people against their own shortcomings nor can a solution be coded that will anticipate every odd turn the human mind will take.

Some times you just need to relax and have a little fun.

I'm not sure I understand what a virtual date happens to be. fortunately, I know what a real one is.

so, I think if someone stops by to have a discussion around how to meet someone and know that they're interested in you and not just your body temperature or bank account balance, then it's all good.

  10. Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not against the idea, I'm just worried that the EU platform doesn't have sufficient security to weed out some of the weirdos. Having one of the FBI's most wanted pedophiles found living just a few blocks from me last year may have made me a little too concerned about such things but they are worth taking a look at.
The "dating expert" is a feature I am not going to use. In my opinion it's up to each and every individual to learn what they want in a partner. The only way to learn this is through failed relationships, not by having someone tell you your "compatibility".

I don`t think this is meant to be a dating service as much as hanging out to maybe answer questions for people or give advice. So my only qualm is that there is really no one I see around to give advice to. Most of us I see on NI like the posters here are married or older wiser types. Now if they manage to convince this persons existing followers to maybe log into NI and give it a try that could be a positive aspect.

I am a proponent of the internet being a tool to use in the process of meeting someone. However, I'm curious how this will go over since, well, I assume it's meant for singles. I know of several married folks on NI, and I know there aren't many people here in total... I'm curious how many singles we actually have... And are all of the singles on NI male, or are some female?

I am a single male, but I wouldn't say I'm looking for someone at this time. If I were actively seeking a woman at this time, would NI be a good option now or ever? NI apparantly will be marked towards females, particularly around college age. I'm 44 years old. While that might sound interesting to some, college girls are a bit too young for me, and I'm too old for them.

Even if age weren't an issue, and if there were plenty of people of both genders on NI... We are from all over the planet. Sure, there may be the rare couple from different countries that fall in love and manage to work it out, but that's gotta be a challenge.

So, overall I see it as an alright concept, but without thousands, or tens of thousands of people on NI, I just don't see it as being a big success.

    Ofc, I could be wrong...

Forgot to add... How smart is it to be looking for someone when there is no way of knowing which gender they really are. When I see a female avatar I usually assume it's run by a male until I get information that tells me otherwise.

I'm not expecting NI matchmaking as much as a chat about dating and relationships in general.

(Although if anyone gets together on NI, let me know!)

  14. Why wait for someone else, I'll pick you up at 2am EU time and we can head to Club Neverdie. :) Kidding of coarse, I just couldn't resist. :)

  18. i think that there is more important things to worry about atm then hiring dating managers.

need content to bring players, so i think add more content people for the time being, and if people having dating issues they will get over it, just like they always did.

not to be mean, but this is too soon for this.
