    Hi pioneers,

If you believe someone is using an exploit or breaking the EULA, the first thing to do is talk with them about it politely. I agree that the majority of EULA violators are new players who don't fully understand, and not scammers. Quite often a respectful conversation is the only thing needed to handle this.

(The VAST majority of Islanders are quite helpful about this, as I discovered when I was looking into the deathskilling exploit at Serpentine. A half-dozen players sent my dummy ava polite, friendly chat messages letting me know that what I was doing was not in the spirit of NI. What a great way to handle it.)

If you have questions about the EULA, or need to report someone using an exploit, please submit a support case here: https://support.nextisland.com/

In terms of this particular case, I've passed the details on to support. In the meantime, I agree that anyone who stumbles upon an Islander having car trouble should feel free to lend a hand! It's the neighborly thing to do.

  2. LOL don't do that or SOMEONE will get upset because you are encouraging the exploiters bad behavior

  3. Before passing judgment on a player, make sure that it is a known exploit, and they are aware of that fact. The rules of this game are hidden, and knowledge of exploits is hard to find. playing for a little over 2 months now, i have figured out most of the game mechanics. To my surprise the other day i was politely asked <in a beat around the bush kinda way> if i knew i was exploiting while hunting. I had no idea.... I thought that the AI of a mob would be better, and it was not. So somehow spending Ped to kill something above level, so more ped than usuial, is considered a exploit.... the Vet players are not happy because a noob is on their turf.... thats all... I call it skill if i can use a weapon to take down a tough mob, not by getting it stuck behind a rock, tree or other object, but by playing under the limits of the character and its tools. If there is a known hack, cheat, exploit, or anything else... make it known.... post a set of rules. make a list of things that will be fixed, things that are possible to do, but will get banned for... Its hard to find anything information from this game... its mostly asll from players... or intermediaries... i like official rules.... they are iron clad...

  4. whats wrong with deathskilling?

tecnicly leagly speaking "here it is in the rules"
honestly i cant give a care about everyones personal opinion
    i want the facts

  5. "auto" skilling has been going on in game for as long as I've been a player and that's been many years.

    My take:

    1. It can be programmaticly locked down to keep folks from getting skills if "done repeatedly".
    2. MA and folks still get their decay money from the tools used no matter what. So why do #1
    3. MA implemented their own "autoclicker" feature in game.
    4. If you do the math, in the long term, it's going to cost you more in ped, esi, implants, repair fees, time wasted, etc than you're really getting back.
    5. Who does it "really" hurt?
    6. No hard written rules in the EULA that state either way.

About the folks that whine and accuse:
    1. You make yourself and your society look like an ass.
    2. Potentially you tarnish the rep of the possibly innocent person you targeting.
    3. Pretending you're a MA rep and dictating the rules IS ABSOLUTELY against the EULA.
    4. When you get pissed and go off and start CUSSING at folks, YOU are absolutely against the EULA.
    5. Continuing to harass folks IS absolutely against the EULA.

In the >6 years I've been playing on this system, all the stupid shi# I've seen and done, and all the $ I've deposited and withdrawn, here's a piece of advice to remember for all times. In the end, it's ONLY a game.

  6. OMG! And this message above is why the Next Island community is superior to the Calypso community.

Most of what the Calypso community does is fight with each other, whether its on PCF or sitting at the docks of Port Atlantis, someone is always bickering. It's incredibly disappointing.

Watch someone from Calypso show up on this thread now and point out that I too bicker. Let me pre-empt that. Yes, I do. Everyone has their limits. When I walk into the newbie arrival zone and see the same people showing off their garbage, and the same trash talk happening hour after hour from those same people sometimes my fuse gets a little worn. It doesn't mean I like it. This is a game -- some folks idea of fun is to act like little kings, attempting to spoil fun for others!

Thanks for keeping the perspective, Smurf.

Wow, this whole thread REALLY does show how amazing our community is!

Looking after newbie zones, polite communication, respectful + sane disagreements.... y'all are awesome!

  8. Personally I like to use my es500 on auto tool use on a nice little buka bird or a village boar young while I am chatting or whatever. I decay that thing about 70 ped a day usualy sometimes 140 ped a day just because I want to unlock xenobiology and get a bunch of botany skill. I hope botany will be used some day in a farming skill / profession

  9. With the implementation of Grace Period, Death Skilling is not worth to perform more. You will die only 60 times in 1 hour, I doubt that you may get more than 1 green line from 60 deaths.

  10. At no point am I going to say I've never autoskilled either. 5 years ago, you could get some decent faps, stand in pool of rippers and just fap for hours. We used to trap 100's of mobs in the pit and 50 folks would stand around the rim sweating and chatting for hours. MA folks sometimes stopped by to have chats and they KNEW what we were doing and never once said a word. Do I do all that crap now? Nah, time is money and my time is worth more real $ than I can make doing it in game. It's all a matter of perspective.

For the record. I don't consider myself a "Next Island" resident. I'm an EU resident and wherever a place catches my interest is where you'll find me. So, no, not "all" Calypso folks are like that.

My point tho, folks have a long term memory of folks that make an a$$ out of themselves. LOTS longer than they have a memory for autoskillers. In a game like this, reputation really DOES matter.

  11. I think Maygar was referring to a specific group of very vocal "Calypsians". I think it's nice that group of people stays away from this forum(more or less).
After all almost all of us where born on Calypso so by birth we hold Calypso citizenship.
BTW, how do I apply for Next Island citizenship? It seems some of the Papoo look down on us Calypsians and refuse to talk to anyone who does not have their NI citizenship. :)

  12. I plead the 5th!

I looked for NI citizenship once, a papoo directed me to talk to a Mr Death Drake. I chose to pass on that opportunity.

  13. LordLongLicious

    LordLongLicious Do you fear death?

    ho-hum.

Indeed. Hopefully we are all mature individuals in here. This was not the case however some days ago ingame.

IF anyone REALLY cares about all this, I will now unbottle all the emotions I have gathered pertinent to this matter because it is just not healthy to keep it all in, as I dont box:

I suffered A LOT of verbal abuse just a few days ago by people who were waaaay over line, and not by some new player but by some players who not only are old on the game, but who also claim to know EULA regulations and yet bragged about it as the player by the name of bpm did.

And by the way: I never filed a ticket others seem to, I put however their misdeed in here for others to see, as it is attention they want when they do this, if not, why do what they did on the first place?

I really tried to talk with the people annoying others because I really wanted to see why do they behave like they own the place.

But I guess that the sentence "can you move away please?" deserves heavy retribution. What a cuss! How dare he? Just because Imblowing this thing here in public annoying the beejesus ouit of everyone else? They shoud move away! Not I, Why dont they just turn off the volume?

Yes, why dont I. And my society. And the entirety of other players who happen to dislike loud noise (serious EULA was NOT the main issue here as the part bothered did not even quote EULA to start with as far as I recall, attitude problems were)

Why dont we all who are bothered by such people just swich off the volume, close down the game and go elsewhere? Or why dont we just lock ourselves inside boxes you know, not to annoy those dear people who so gladly want to brush their errors on our faces with so much profusion in words, such nonsensic colourful language, why dont we, just die (it has been suggested by one of them as well)

Just notice that for some the use of the word "ass" seem somehow allowed, while for others this might be considered cussing? Just asking, because things like these really bake my noodle.

Another: calling those who finally get tired of it all and ask (not order) it to stop are whiners and accusers? No cussing there, ok I get it I get it, I have to shut the fuck up (cuss directed at me during the event) but they can blow others ears off and use those words profusely, suddendly this all makes sense. How dare I.

I only posted about it here, because this was what people told me could be the solution to it, because God knows I tried to talk with those self rightgeous self indulgent selfish individuals who think they own the place, me, you, and everybody else, apparently.

I however agree with the points above, and the old players involved did ALL OF THE ABOVE and then dare playing victim afterwards, lying their behinds off to try to justify themselves, so i guess this makes them whiners and accusers then.

Their behaviour was childish, if not self-destructive, counter productive, to say the least.

Have we grown to be people that cannot ask others to stop something that is annoying them?

If we do point out because we just cannot stand it anymore, does this entitle those who are doing wrong to cover us with "cussing" and verbal abuses, lies and false allegations and specially when they are not doing the right thing?

I am sure that those few old players who were involved on the ridiculous episode I was partially a victim of will point fingers shift blames because I have seen them do this in game and I have seen them do it in here now.

One of them even sent me a threat that I must comply to all this if I dont want to get a bad reputation(!)

    Me!?

The one who just came along (amongst so many others by the way) to ask them to stop because it was just annoying?!?

new players, players who just spawned came to me and asked for help to make it stop because I was tryig to talk with those people, now how crazy is that???

Now, for how long a person must suffer abuse before naturally starting to retribute, I ask those EULA experts.

because those few old players involved on a situation that was ending had they not come along and start afking just to show they "could" (because after all according to them I am a noob and they are ubers! That explains everything apparently on their personal virtual worlds I guess, get the size of my amazement?)

I did not cuss if they would be implying that on a deceitful attempt to somehow still save their minds from any responsibility of their own acts, I have however repeated to people who asked what was going on some of the cussing I and others have suffered, I dont think EULA reprehends that for them who seem to throw it at lot around but who actually bragged to do it a lot, in fact he did it for hours as well it as one of them openly stated several times (player by name of bpm), and more:

How dare some of these people (the ones who caused the mess) try to threaten others with EULA when they are the ones tramping all over it?

Do they lack the understanding (if not the empathy for other players when asked to stop something that is bothering others) for what they are doing is wrong?

I have asked other old players before I did anything and I have a good knowledge about similar matters as my society has a lot of new members and we were thrown EULA by old players all over at start.

The main "arguments" of those old players were that I am a noob, an idiot, etc etc etc...

...nope, I was just tired of the noise and asked them to stop, and as it is typical, they believe they are entitled to react, and others are not.

In short, I dont need to justify myself, others here on the other hand shoud., right softheart? lol.

because if it was not for you the situation on the beach would not have escalated. "lol"

If not ask for apologies for their horrible behaviour. It was horrible for me what can I say. Shoud I lie like they do?

Being old in the game is no excuse to threat and insult others while doing things that on my book are completely despicable (and Im not talking about skilling here), and specially not to the new players.

A new player (assuming it was a new player, not just a new avatar) had been at the beach for days doing this and telling people to go and... ...whenever they came to ask her to stop (because of the noise, more than any EULA on the world), she was getting some reputation, I finally manage (through courtesy) to get her to stop, untill softheart instead of just going along with it, took her side calling me names on her "defense".

Now, she claims she did it humorously, so why get angry if I jested just the same? Or just some people are entitled to irony and sarcasm but apparently not others?

My point is: if you are the one doing something that is irritating many people (not just 1 or 2 who might be doing wrong) you are the one who shoud pipe down, leave the area and hide in shame under fear of being criticised or becoming "known for" doing this sort of thing as if one shoud feel wrong, not the people who are in fact entitled to tell you to "move away, please"

But what am I saying, lets celebrate the ignorance, the self indulgency, the narcyssism and the fact that people on our society today needs to escape reality in some way on the hopes to have some peace of mind.

Im no Obama if people come up with legal nonsense, threats and name calling on an attempt to support their wrong behaviour, that is for sure, and if reputation goes that people will back away because I dont like being mistreated...

...I have however learned my share of this lesson. Next time I will just ask to leave, and if the person refuses and tell me something really nasty, post a complaint and repeat the complaint untill I make sure that the person is expelled and no longer on the game.

Because trying to reason with such potential sociopaths is impossible, that is now clear.

Nobody probably is going to read it as it is extensive and might devoid them from the more important topics as Lady Gagas last gossip, but boye it felt good, I shoud do this more often.

  14. I could not have said it better!

  15. Lord,

I didnt read your wall of text in entirity. It seems however youve been offended by some of the things that were said both on these boards and elsewhere. This matter seems close to you, probably because you were originally threatened and singled out in-game. That's natural, and I sympathize. Not too long ago myself and my society were also singled out by rules laywers and harassed by a group of "prominent" people within this game. I am reminded of this because while on Calypso I have to deal with these particular individuals, some of whom are still bent on harassment more than 8 months after they initially started.

At one point they filed support cases against my entire society, trying to use the EULA to get us all (140 people at the time) banned. Why? Because these jerks deemed that my society name, Laudanum, was against the EULA. I actually had to send support proof that I held a business license, and the Laudanum name as used in online gaming was one of my trademarks, much like Coca Cola is a trademark. I then felt it necessary to put a disclaimer to that effect on my guild website.

The real money nature of this product seems to bring out alot of evil in people. People will smile in your face while they twist a virtual knife in your back. They call it business. What I call it shouldn't be posted on a G rated board. Other people will try to tread on you outright. I sympathize with you on that regard. However you can either let them run your experience, or you can run it. People who engage in EULA based harassment and in-game based harassment are the lowest of the low. They are internet bullies. They are cyber trash. And they do not deserve a moment more of your time.

Entropia is bigger than those people, and so are you. Move on, and laugh at them when you pass them by. As they engage in bullying tactics you can be engaged in enjoying the game with yourself and the people you are playing with.

    Cheers,

    -MR

  16. Ya Lord you want to see pointless cussing, false accusations and self-righteousness in all it's Entropia "Glory" pay a little visit to PCF. NI tends to be ALOT more relaxed in that regard. :)
I'm not going to try and determine the exact truth of what was going on. Maybe you where the one cussing as was suggested, maybe you where the one getting cussed at as you claim. The truth of the matter is entirely irrelevant to me as I am neither judge nor jury.
I can play mediator though. Those vehicle explosions can get annoying, and out of common decency the people doing it could have moved when politely asked. On the other hand there was no reason for either side to start cussing. There are plenty of things to get upset about and this should never have turned into one of those things.
There is however no point in you referring to them as sociopaths or narcissistic on the forums here. That will only escalate the argument, not diminish it. If your looking for a forum fight then you are on the right path. If you are looking to simply shine some light on the issue then you must avoid retaliatory comments.
One thing I find very important here is to try and conduct yourself with honour.
    1) Is the issue really worth getting in a fight about or is the fight petty and demeaning to everyone involved?
    2) Is the issue important enough that you will take on entire forum to bring it to light?
    3) Will you stand alone on the issue?
    4) Will you continue to push the issue even when your posting on a forum where bans are handed based on popularity(PCF)?
To me this issue looks like number one.

  17. *shakes head again*

  18. LordLongLicious

    LordLongLicious Do you fear death?

No real issue, not as I see it, and it can only be petty and demeaning for petty and demeaning people.

Merely putting it all down in here already because I know petty and demeaning people dont stop being petty and demeaning and this topic will come back again, and then it will already be here so I or/and others will just need to copypaste replies.

Entire forum? rather an obscure part of the forum pertinent to the topic?

Corey, I just been called a whiner and a accuser, whatever that means from a guy who actually sent me an email stating he would deliberately make me unpopular (tell me this is not crazy), so in reply to some corrosive allegations, I know how gossip works. This aint over yet, unfortunately.

But I know because you were not the one being called names you could not care less. I do understand that.

heh, I stand together on this that wasnt supposed even to be an issue wasnt the incapacity of some to back off when theyt are wrong, and as I told it isnt over yet as I have been promised retaliation by pm(!).

I did not take the pictures and I did not (but I shoud have, now I see why) filed a ticked to support, I was not the only one asking them to stop and therefore it is impossible for me to stand alone on this thing, bare with me.

I have however been dragged into this debate because of lies being said about those people who did ask them to stop politely. So what can I do.

What is it with popularity nowadays? Well, I have a very popular society on NI and anyone who happens to threaten people on my society will hear from me, yessir.

As I mentioned before, next time and I hope there wont be one (one can only hope) now I know exacly what to do, just stating my views on the matter (if others can, so can I), so I may completely forget that I was attacked by a few selfish individuals on this game who cannot admit when they fail.

I am pleased however to see that softheart is finally shaking her head to her previous behavior (assuming that this is the case) as she actually caused things to escalate.

That would help me forget the whole thing, together with the few involved apologising to forget the whole incident, so it wont grow out of proportion again.

Just putting the name on the bull. For future references, as I know this aint over.

    Unfortunately.

while I am aware the zealotry knows no borders and considers itself an irresistible force of righteousness; sometimes, even I can be shocked.

and this was because your society is named after a 19th century commercially available tonic?

I find a considerable amount of the music played on rocktropia to be degrading, verbally offensive, and just plain annoying to the point of harassment. can I get rocktropia banned?

most of the people who have such a narrow and dogmatic view and are quick to join some petty cause often do so from their own lack of tolerance and weak personalities. it's a sad state of affairs.

  20. It wasn't because we were named after said tonic. It was simply a weapon in their arsenal that they used to try to remove me as a player from EU. My society was a possible casualty they were willing to accept in order to pursue their own personal vendetta.

That's what happens when you support a person in-game who is not popular. To them it didn't matter that the way he was attacked, by anonymous posting, was reprehensible. It didn't matter that there was no evidence of wrongdoing aside from a few stories from known messageboard warriors with a history of playing political favorites. Whether he did any wrong or not was not important.

What was important was that he wasn't liked, so him and anybody who attempted to aid him or support him in any way were targets to be removed from the game. From June of 2010 until, it seems, even now this fight has been going on. When I set foot on Calypso the same people were causing the same problems at the same place. Vehicles used to be dropped on other players gathering for no other reason than to attempt to make them miserable. Personal attacks were made on both sides. Accusations of computer hacking ran rampant. EULA based harassment, the topic of this thread, was used on an hourly basis, every day by certain players in this group.

I documented all of this on a public forum, with screenshots.

After regularly contacting support and getting no resolution to the problem I personally hired an attorney, and through his investigation had one of the individuals who had started threatening me personally with multiple legal violations served with a cease and desist order -- which of course had no effect. The intention of the cease and desist was to establish a legal trail of blame in case the popularity contest swung against me, and I became the victim of an unjustified ban.

Basically, it was hell. And it was a hell created by prominent players within the community. The Laudanum name was only one of the many weapons they used against me.

Of course they'll try to blame it all on me. Funny thing though. Here there have been no problems. On Calypso there are problems whether I am there or not. Hmm...
