So I was on Planet Arkaida website, the planet opening date has been announced 31 days togo. Do you really think this universe needs another planet right now? Seems that you would stablize the planets you have already, rather than introduce a new one. You think N.I, is vaccent now wait till may. BTW what ever happened to planet Michael? can you say flop
You're ranting. Why? Are you trying to accomplish change, or just venting frustration? One is productive. The other is not.
I don't know about anyone else but i'd like to see some change. If enough of us pull together we can make this happen!!
You have a new VU comming up. Your loyal Islanders will always be there and the fickle crowd will come and go with each update. What is more important for you is to lay the economic groundwork yourself in preperation for when there are more people both brought in by NI promotion and the 'fickle crowd' from other planets on vacation. Complaining can only accomplish so much. What really works is action on your own part, even if it is at the lowest level. I have spent almost a year on Rocktropia which has and had similar economic issues as you. During that time I have traded with players of every level from first day buy my 10sweat bottles to dragon hunters selling ESI's and rare dragon parts. My point is that everyone who reads this forum knows the problems with the economy. My question to you is what are YOU going to do to help it grow? narfi
Hey Narfi, do you work for MindArk or what? Yes i know that you are on rocktropia I was just there for a month. But don't you think It may be to late for Ni to get its update . Planet arkaida will already be open by then and I sure that this update will dwindle down. Heck let me be the one to say the only way for this planet thrive is if MindArk drops the virtual shipping bs and allows all the planets to be a part of the events that go on in Calypso without being charged 80 ped to participate. So I can keep spending money on an unfinished product or shell out another 80 ped to go to calypso for a month. I have been following arkaida for some time and they haven't rushed their programming to start making a profit. So if I'm shelling out cash it's gonna be to go there. Besides the bug thats in CND is well known and it has cost me a few ped due to the fact I can't log back in right away. you think that in the last two updates they would have addressed this problem, it's almost like it is intensional on their part
Nope I dont work for ma. I am just a player here for fun who truly believes in the system. Arkadia may be a great planet, it certainly looks like they are putting alot of work and good ideas into it. Not many people like the transport costs for auction or for tp fees, but I think they will protect the planets from the max exodus you fear. I also believe in the diversity of planets to protect them. Next Island has its own feeling and type of people it will attract. Just as other planets will have their own feel and game play styles. I am convinced that when NI gets going it will have a great player base and a booming economy. It needs believers though, people like manny, corey and majyor. People willing to put in the time and energy to mentor and instruct as well as people willing to help out the economy with trades needed to get the new population going. GL and fun finding your way in the universe :) narfi
Majyor eh? :-) I think in the end NI will be fine, EU will be fine, etc. Look at Ultima Online. Look at EverQuest. Look at Asheron's Call. In 1998 Ultima Online was supposedly dead. The community was tired of its bugs, leaving it. Its 2011 and UO still has a very strong player base, just as strong as ever. In 2000 EverQuest was over, according to many in the community. The game was boring, level caps had been reached. The genre was stale, and producing "horrible" products like Lineage, Maple Story, Anarchy Online, and Runescape. 11 years later not only is EverQuest still running, but so are all of those "horrible" products. And they have huge subscriber bases. Asheron's Call was also a dead game. In 2001 it was deemed unredeemable by its vocal player base, and people moved on. They moved on to WoW, DAoC, and other products. Yet Asheron's Call has put out another expansion, and continues to thrive as a community ten years later. I was a part of the beginning of all these games, and I have noticed a trend. The trend is not that games fail because the vocal populace moves on. The trend is that the vocal populace tends to move on, and games thrive without them, communities become stronger even, and more diverse. In 2003 Julian Dibbell wrote Play Money, or How I Made Millions Selling Virtual Loot. The topic of this book was the dead game Ultima Online. A dead game where he was able to secure $4000 a month in profits during the previous year, 4 years after the game was declared dead. So much for being dead. Let the vocal crowd leave. Let the prices plummet. Let the naysayers move on. EU will continue without them, and will likely thrive. From what I have seen there needs to be some weeding done in the garden here (in EU at large) anyway. There's alot of negativity. Alot of pollution. Alot of people actively working to discourage people from playing.
Sorry :/ im a bad speller and usually to lazy to look up stuff that the spellchecker isnt able to help with. I would also like to appologize for the next dozzen times I likely misspell your name :P I still think you are one of the pillars of NI though :P narfi
what you appear to have missed, is the fact each planet is a seperate game inside a single universe (platform)
Because I don't have a store at tangerine. I have a booth at the City of Dreams TP. The store at tangerine tp is Zal's and he has kindly allowed me a table in his store to sell Dragon Armor Plates and guns from. (my booth has 11 item slots, with the shopkeeper (adds 20, and uses 6) and sign, I can only have 24 items listed in my booth) He has my name over the table he gave me to use. This really demonstrates some of what I have been trying to explain to you. Zal and I and others on Rocktropia work together, helping each other out for the benefit for the whole planet. narfi
Ho-hum, if I may, and as one of them trying to make this planet work... ...how to put it without appearing rude to the eyes of the defender of the "entropian faith" in here. :) Bare in mind I am usually humorous on my remarks, so please defenders of the entropian faith, bare with me on this one. After being in Arcadia and seeing its launch, I dont think NI or RT have anymore excuse for throwing players on frustrating situations. Rocktropia has put its act together apparently a month ago, now it seems to be NI's time so I am holding my comments for (yet another!!!) "official" launch. I understand where Sid comes from: NI has no original tools, no original armor, no original bps, no original nothing and it was a BIRTH just to get the technician papoo handing the basic bps and books (we had to order or travel to other planets to get it) as it shoud have done just naturally since day one, really. Come on, really. Not even loot is working well it seems. I have hunted sharks only to find up to 4 "no loot" sharks in a row (just as an example) Sharks my friends and fellow players! Sharks! Now I dont know if it is something related to my avatar that in more than six monthes in NI I only got two tiny globals while on all the other planets they seem to fall naturally on my lap, however I find it really odd. Another tip, not critiscism, as a player, and wondering how a new player would feel, finding no loot as a constant is not only frustrating however also discouraging. You kind of stop it killing the animals after the third consecutive "no loot", oddly enough this also only seem to happen on NI, so is it just my "bad luck"? :) So it is hard for me as the head of a society to hear from some of my dissapointed formely active members that now must wait for the (next!!!) "official" launch about their reasons they are leaving (temporarely if not forever) the game. After seeing Arkadia, players can see it can be done. Now I agree one shoud not be so negative and all the yadayada, however when people put money into something they do expect something in return again, sorry, and just to tell them that they better sweat (when there is no one to buy their sweat) is not really enticing to a game where you put money into. I care for both Narfi and Magyar, two great gamers on Entropia, but truth must be told: promises promises promises + blah blah blah + shut up and just darn sweat it noob = people leaving = no money put into the planet = planet having no potential for local economy = disgrunted players leaving the game = planet owner unhappy = possible planet fail. And to state when someone finally speaks up that he or she shoud just shut up and suck it, just dont help either, just saying. Now I love you all, however, let Sid speak, perhaps they might listen. Because serious, after Arkadias launch there shoud be no excuse for further delays, and not because I like Arkadia (I like NI) but because they at least showed consideration for the entropian players with bps, weapons, tools you name it all ready and running. Come on, even their bugs are not really relevant to the general gameplay, I am just trying to help. And sometimes just not saying anything and watching the whole thing slowly collapsing is just not good enough, perhaps a little push (or perhaps a massive one, and heavens Im good at this) just might do the trick. Sid feel free for suggesting that NI shoud cut on the slack because it has plenty of it - the consideration is well founded and well deserved as I see it. And trust me when I say that I am holding myself back on this as I dont wish to sabotage the chances of success of this planet, as I have invested time and money on this planet and I am willing to invest even more - if this planet just kept its promises as it shoud. Thank you for reading all this, it is not a rant and was humorously ment to HOPEFULLY ENLIGHTEN this slacker of a planet. I hope you understand that some times protest is needed when the "authorities" dont seem to listen. I hope as well that all here see I am one of those trying my best to make NI work, but it is impossible if the new players feel cheated. There I said it. Come on, over four or five consecutive "no loot" for each "loot" (read: Nova fragment) anyone feels discouraged to continue.
Well Lord, now that Arkadia has launched SID can say what he likes. Most of us had just reached our wits end with people comparing NI to Arkadia before Arkadia even went live. I am there now and in my opinion it doesn't live up to the hype, although I do like the pistols. That is neither here nor there though. I like that NI launched unfinished, it's allowed me to have a better understanding of the delicate balance of EU. It has also given us the chance to test and provide feedback to the development team. Hopefully Mr. Post has taken our ideas, recommendations and hopes for NI into consideration. Heck if my Shark or Death armour and stats are implemented with my name in the item description then that will beat a dozen new item hofs or even an ATH.
I agree with most of what you wrote Lord. I definitely have my moments of disillusionment as well. I am an optimist by personality so that makes things much simpler for me. But really we need blueprints encompassing ALL types of items and activities and a use for ALL loot locally. I always hope that the next VU right around the corner will be the one that opens everything up and makes the planet viable. Really 2 things need to happen. 1. The planet needs to have a full circle of looted items & stackables, Mined Resources & crafted items. It needs these looted and crafted items to cover ALL levels of playstyle in order to be fully functional. 2. Once step 1 is done, there needs to be a hardcore advertizing campaign to bring in a bajillion new players. Realistically we know that even on a fully functional planet (calypso) that only 1 in 10 or fewer new players stay, so there needs to be an influx of atleast 10x the number desired for a full planet. You will not get that kind of population growth with random press releases or visiting trade shows. Sure those are good, but you need full scale advertizing of the sort you see from the 'big companies' The ideas behind NI are great, and I love the atmosphere there, but these are the 2 things I see it really needing right now. As I said I am an optimist, so I hope that this big VU coming up for NI will be the start to making it all happen :) narfi
