  1. How to get to Rutile Beach (Hunters Waterfall Outpost) without dying from Boars Monkey and whatsoever a million times? (to do the Franks Friends quest.)
-Just started for 5hr. (3hrs dying)

    New question:

Planet Calypso has much more mission then Next Island, (as it was around longer of course)
But for new players like me, aint starting at Calypso better?
as we can make use of Missions?
Next ISland has so little missions...

  2. Welcome to Next Island.

Yep, lots of aggressive mobs on the way to Rutile beach and Hunter's waterfall. When I did Frank's Friends I made it by going by water. I went down to the coast, swam west to the mouth of the big river and walked up the river. You have to go through mobs at Rutile beach and Hunter's waterfall but there are revive points and teleports at each location.

    Good luck.

  3. thanks swimming was a good idea. i managed to swim close enough to respawn at Rutile beach.

  4. Glad you made it :)

Where you think is best to start is really a function of what it is you want to do. missions, while interesting, are not the be all of the universe. I survived for six years without any missions whatsoever. one just has to make a plan and follow through with it.

next island may not be currently as rich in missions, economy, and such as calypso; but you can still forge a place for yourself. in fact, there is some advantage in doing this now, on next island.

  7. What do you consider the advantage to be? No sweat camps, no one buying sweat, most of the loot will remain worthless until June. Seems awfully rough for starting players to me.

  8. Ah it is rough, but by being among the first colonists there are opportunity's that are available here but not on Calypso. Take my Booth for example, on Calypso I would be competing with hundreds of other shopkeepers, the auction system and "street corner merchants". Here there are only a few other shops, giving myself and the other shopkeepers a chance to build our reputations here and firmly establish ourselves.
Sure trading isn't for everyone. Another advantage to being first tough, all those materials that have no use right now, well they are going to have a use. Work on stockpiling them, once they have a use there will be lots of people trying to buy large quantities quickly, the MU will go up and the guys who grinded it out will get a nice return.
As to the sweat, I would suggest stockpiling that too. You never know what new BP is going to require sweat. Heck I've got BP's that require 250 and 500 bottles of sweat(now if I could just get my hands on the other mats :) ). Imagine what will happen to the value of sweat if a bunch of bp's like that come out. Plus with using personal TP chips now being safer(thanks to the grace period) personal chips my catch on again. Last year at this time Mind Essence was around 200% MU thanks to the popularity of TP chips.

well, john, in adversity, there is often opportunity. it is what you make of it.

like corey mentioned, this is the time to build an inventory and wait for the gate to open. of course, this is not without risk.

personally, I'd stay away from the sweat. it's fun to collect and socialize with others, but I don't believe it's a stepping stone to independence. that said, I usually keep a big pile of it anyways. I never sell it, but I find other uses for it.

  10. Okay, I guess I was thinking you were saying it's advantageous to be here for a new non-deposit player. Obviously you meant the benefit is for more established players, which I can definitely see.

actually, no. I think next island is a good place to become established. so, being new or not doesn't have that much impact. also, deposit vs. non-deposit is a difficult subject. to start with nothing and build from nothing into self sufficiency without ever spending anything is a very slow and very difficult process. I don't think where it's attempted matters significantly.

yes, there are many fewer sweat buyers on next island. if selling sweat is the intended method, then rocktropia is actually better as there are agents there who subsidize the sweat price. calypso has more buyers without restrictions but the price is lower (is actually the fair market value).

however, I personally do not believe that collecting/selling sweat is any realistic way to establish oneself - mostly due to the time consumption and not even considering the mind numbing repetition. a secondary factor is that actually selling the stuff cuts out some additional margin one could have collected by selling mind essence instead.

you would be surprised at what 300 ped a month can do, if you have a good plan and stick to it.
