Okay aside from a little bit of a story and easy access to ancient Greece what did we get that was so big? We still have nothing to make an economy out of, is this seriously the big update that took months to complete? Surely this must just be a preview and the real update is sill coming this month.
Dunno but they are running people away with the lack of support for the people getting stuck all over. I know I will be leaving once I get out cause of the issue and not having a damn fap anywhere to be found. -Bemo-
Would really appreciate an answer to this. When is NI going to deliver needed content? Sure ancient greece is neat, but NI proper is still lacking everything it needs. Getting one area working should take precedence over the story. Are we going to see some real content soon? Please don't tell me that we are getting another "big update". Are we getting planet content? A use for all the loot? Anything to justify all the time and effort some of us have spent trying to get a fledgling economy going, to bring in needed gear from other planets?
According to Kitten's thread about her return to Ancient Greece, there are a lot of changes there, both in landscape and mob settings. New clothes are (really!) cool, and that goes for the new missions and the revamped TP crystal BP. I'll keep my fingers crossed that more BP's will appear in auction soon, hopefully using NI specific ingredients and not just generic EU ones like the TP crystal BP. Hate having so much ped tied up in storage :/
I think in all reality, Corey and Manny, it is unlikely we will get any answer or clarification unless it is approved up the Next Island management/leadership echelon. Meg is always forthcoming in sharing what is approved to be released. It is sad in a way, that as the real life Next Island Team invests in world building (from required finances, professionals who can deliver, business plans/strategies, acquiring art/design/landscape/3D modeling content, marketing efforts, Q&A proficiency, and leaders who provide seasoned guidance and vision) they do not see the many in-world gamers who provide a symbiotic link towards helping Next Island succeed: *I refer to the in-world Next Island investors who combined deposit thousands of real dollars traveling to other planets to bring back items and materials to sell to people on Next Island. *There are the volunteer mentors and society members/leaders who give of their time and resources (armor, PED, ammo, etc.) to help people who are in such need. *The awesome friendships made and grown that help weave a network of trust, companionship, help in time of need, and help build a sense of community. *And of course on a larger scale are the believers and defenders of Next Island who take ridicule on forums, in discussions on other worlds, and over heard in general chat at varied locations and on different planets. Why? Because many of us believe Next Island is something unique and something special, unlike any other world in the Entropia Universe. When we teleport back to Next Island from visiting another world, there is a momentary sigh of thanks because we feel we have come home again. It really is like that, for many of us. We want Next Island to succeed. :) To the Next Island Team, we are very appreciative for what you have done, however the world is not complete for sustained existence. We'd appreciate any information you can share, from an interview, Q&A, press release, or other news source that shares specific details on how economic growth is planned for this world.
Very good points Tom. If I may add my 2 pecs, the NI team is really willing and capable, and there seems to be enough collective experience of MMO games and the mentality of MMO players, something that we can see in the new missions that bring us closer to the story, while the already impressive visuals of NI seem to have been taken up a notch. The problem in my eyes is the intricacies of an RCE economy and the ways in which the needs of players change because of it. In other MMO's, the lack of BP's for the locally looted ingredients wouldn't be so big a problem, since you could always craft something else or keep them indefinitely in storage waiting for the next step. And you can do that because what you loot is usually worth more than what you've spent and in game currency holds no real value. In an RCE game, where a certain percentage of TT value is taken out of your returns so that the company and the development team can survive, you NEED markup to stay afloat. When materials have no use in game, no markup and you're forced to TT them, not only do you find your self running out of disposable income and in need of constant depositing (if you are able to), but you're also greatly discouraged to go on. Not exactly in tune with the micro economy and social player base that the team focuses on.
If I can chime in, having blueprints and items is only adequate. Its meaningful blueprints that create items that are truly unique that will bring Next Island to life. I dont want another laser gun with a different pew-pew sound. I want something that says "Disaster happened during time travel." I think its important that such unique Next Island tools and creations be storyboarded into the concept. We now have robots who have questionable memory banks and a lack of purpose. And we have a 2nd wave of colonists. The robots may create flawed human garments, for instance, that are functional but lack fashion sense and aesthetic appeal. These would be enviro-suits, if you will, with robot approximations of what humans want that fall slightly short, in unique, funny ways. This could start the clothing pool, then it could slowly grow as 2nd wavers arrive and unlock more attractive, human influenced recipes. The same goes for furniture. About the only thing the robots may design well is weaponry or exploratory tools, that they can construct to maximum efficiency, but which might be fundamentally flawed due to a lack of initial resources. Human hands might therefore come up with some ingenious new weapons that combine power cells with crystals and other amplification sources we have at our disposal. The items might look unique, very unique, and maybe even a little strange. As new time destinations open up these can continue to influence the main island, infusing it with more unique items. It would start NI down a path that didnt mimic what's already been done. Also, perhaps the leaders within the Next Island community can be afforded some opportunity to help shape these things here. There are many talented and dedicated people in the group, and not all of them are ubers, unlike other worlds. This is an opportunity to allow a new class of Entropian to take part in community building.
Good point's everyone. Tom, I really like how you worded what you said, it was exactly what I was trying to get across but my disappointment and frustration at the time prevented me from getting it across. Manny, I think you probably hit the nail on the head, plenty of MMO experience in the team but the RCE aspect is new to them, ohwell it was to all of us at one time. Maygar, Great idea, think sideways as you would say. I might even design and try to make some concept art for clothing, weapons, armour, vehicles, etc. based off your post. Although my "art" may not be that inspiring.
so playing around on NI, One thing added was Wave Events. Seems some of those metal flower lamp post looking things are designated Wave Event areas. Pretty cool... found one that spawn waves of Brown papoo which Is good for the contest - drops TT crystals as well.
I dont think those are good for the contest. If you global in a wave event area it automatically puts you in the team "Shared Loot." So its not an individual global, and likely will not count. They do drop TT crystals, but not every time.
I think if you are killing wave event creatures though and global your name will come up as "shared loot" and not as your name.
It's one of the androids, not sure what one atm, but you would have already talked to them for the TTC mission. Talk to them again and you can get the mission for killing papoo.
Any news from the Next Island team on this topic, especially now that space travel has arrived? In-game people on Next Island are working very hard to string together some semblance of an economy, though based purely on the new universal BPs, new ships, and release notes information offered by MA through the Entropia Universe portal. Thank you in advance for anything you can share.
It's a vicious circle: No new content, no new players – no new players, no advertising budget and no new content. I hope the next game engine update doesn't hit them hard and unexpected in a few years, when they perhaps have to start over and are only halfway through what they had planned. Would it help the decision makers if they were forced to play their own game? Say knife brown papoos for a living or discuss philosophy with other residents for like three hours a day, every day?
I already talked with members and we will be changing the name of our society if the empty promises scheme keeps repeating, why promote something that does not bother giving us anything in return. *still agravated about the 4 consecutive "no loot" sharks in a row*
I would like to add that the new content from the team around Harold Sipe looks promising so far. ND did what worked best for him in the past: create eye candy, produce media stunts, benefit from taxed LAs and "CAPITALIZE". While this may draw in some new players, there is more needed for them to stay in the long run. One of the reasons that eg. Runescape is so damn popular (at the time of writing this there are currently more than 175,000 people online, figures EU can only dream of), although the graphics are not comparable to EU in the slightest, is in my opinion that they add new content on a weekly basis by now. Also I doubt it is a good idea to almost always place special emphasis on the "make money online" aspect. A significant reduction of the cost to play is necessary if you want to embrace the masses. Yeah, I know, it's free to play… ;) Is it only me or did you notice the lack of "stargazing" HOFs lately as well? ;) Good things come to those who wait. Let's hope so.
I can wait, for something which is done right. I liked the last update, so if that is an indicator, what will come will be worth it. it's easy to slap together stuff that people will get bored of quickly. the disposable approach is rather tawdry, in my opinion. and, I agree with curd in that emphasis on "making money online" isn't good. I think you've managed a huge achievement, if you can manage to play for free. however, everyone has their own goals. I think more of a "be who you want to be" pitch would have the best results. but, then again, I can be rather naive.
